Gerand Reviews

George
Having visited Gerand several times previously, we were very disappointed to find that cleaning standards had unfortunately slipped. It all looked clean on the surface but there had clearly been no deep cleaning undertaken for a while. Also, there was no front door key which is most concerning for both security & safety purposes. The front door & balcony doors are not in good order.
This holiday was so good and the property was excellent! Its location was in Townend which was near so many walks getting 3 wainwrights this trip and there are so many more in the area to do. Love the quiet location to come back to. It was so comfortable and everything you needed like a massive boot room to get things dry and my favourite thing a tv in the bedroom. Very clean and fast wifi . A real parking space was excellent. Lovely garden to sit in, could go on and on. Will be back to bag a few more wainwrights. Thanks for a great holiday. X

A comfortable stay at Gerand ideal for my visit to the lakes,. Clean, bed was comfortable, plenty of kitchen utensils.
Loverly cottage very clean and tidy with everything you could need at hand.
We have stayed at Gerand Ambleside, Cumbria & The Lake District twice and find it very peaceful and its perfect for getting into Ambleside and Windermere.

Lovely holiday in a cottage we have stayed in twice before. However the flood we experienced was very upsetting and very badly dealt with by Sykes and the owner so we will not be staying again. This was caused by all the drains being blocked in the bad thunderstorms we experienced. The wasps nest is still in the roof despite someone else mentioning it in July.
Matthew
A very cosy cottage, however. .. Some of the lights in the kitchen were out. There is a wasp nest in the roof on the northside. This ment we were unable to open the velox windows else the wasps came in. On the Monday evening the property behind the cottage had a motorbike reving up for more than an hour. This was not the quiet relaxing holiday we had been hoping for. Would I stay in Gerrard again? Probably not. Although has not put us off the area.
Yvonne
It was a lovely peaceful setting very nice cottage everything you need and very clean we had a nice relaxing stay just what was needed.
Philip
Immaculate property, clean, well equipped, comfortable and in a quiet culdesac with private parking. Located in a pretty area convenient for central and southern Lakes. Can highly recommend.
On arriving at this property we found half eaten food in bags and baskets in the cupboards. Dirt in the fridge. Cobwebs around the ceilings. Cutlery in the drawers were unclean. TV remote covered in dirt. The list is enless when reported the next morning we were told to wait, whilst Sykes Cottages representative contacted the owners and cleaners. Now refusing to refund any payment for their job not well done. I would not recommend this property, due to the owners lack of empathy in this matter. We spent hours on arrival that night cleaning I book many holidays through Sykes I may need to rethink my holidays in the future

We have stayed in Gerand for a number of years and have never been disappointed. Its location is perfect, its comfortable and its warm.
Lack of storage key was resolved quickly. The cleanliness was not up to the standard of previous visits. Ie bathroom shower tray inside and out, cobwebs generally all over. Extractor fan in bathroom vent clogged up, Curtain rail in living room loose.

I would highly recommend this property. My husband and I had a fabulous stay, so quiet peaceful and breathtaking views. Great location for walks and cycling.
Nice cottage. Good position for exploring the lakes. A good experience all round. Used this cottage quite a few times now,and would use it again in the future.
The place was lovely, well kept and clean, perfect for a couple. The property is ideally placed near Ambleside
Sylvia Frances
Some minor problems such as mixed messages ie depart by 9am on details but in the cottage it says 20am. 2 different codes and names for the Internet hence we couldn't access it. I feel very sorry for anyone occupying this week as the quilt provided is a 13.5 tog. Having encountered this in the past we always bring our own 4.5 tog. A tray for carrying drinks upstairs to the lounge would be good but despite all this we would highly recommend the cottage
Lovely quiet secluded spot in a very busy area
A lovely property. Well equipped. We had a delightful stay. This is the second time we have stayed in Gerand and Im sure it will not be our last. The area is beautiful and peaceful.
Despite getting feedback from the owner via yourselves, the Bluetooth speaker does not seem to have an accessible battery compartment. The lead to recharge it is missing so I was unable to use it after day 1 of our break. The radiator in the bedroom is noisy. Otherwise the cottage was cosy and well equipped.
Excellenta real home from home. Thank you

Excellent yet semi rural location close to popular lakeside towns of AmblesideWindermere Deceptively larger cottage than expected from promo photo shots with many facilities including excellent hassle free parking right outside cottage Nice nearby woodland walk down to lakeside with lovely view

Steps up to terrace and terrace itself should have railings. Wouldn't take much for someone to go over the edge. Otherwise no complaints at all and would definitely return. It had everything we needed.
This cottage was brilliant, could not have wished for anything better, it was very well equipped, with everything you could think of. We would definitely come back again, as i think my Son's family like the Lakes, and would be interested in one of the larger 3 bedroom properties. We have been coming to the Lakes, for over 30 years now, camping & caravanning, and this is the first time in a solid building, and we loved it.
Rachel
The views were even more beautiful than I had expected and the cottage was very well equipped and comfortable.
We had a lovely stay ,but after a 5 hour journey the oven was dirty the microwave needed replaced as did saucepans and fry pans ,now after my call to you the cleaner came Saturday morning, but obviously the microwave and pans were not replaced in time for us . Overall it was fine but for these these kitchen issues
Judith
Lovely hideaway cottage for two perfect size. Very comfortable and well equipped. We had a mixed weather week and had occasion to use the central heating on a couple of occasions which was very easy to use and worked perfectly. The outside areas are lovely with well established gardens and seating areas. The surrounding area is very peaceful with no noise pollution at all during the day and especially at night. The position of the cottage on the hill at Troutbeck means that a car is necessary to visit the other areas, however, it is possible to walk into Ambleside along the the lakeside even if you are retired as we are! Also the owner of the cottage was on site on our first weekend and she was extremely helpful and approachable. This was our third visit to the cottage so that speaks for itself.
A very cosy cottage, well placed to access lots of walks and The Lakes in general.
The cottage was in a lovely, peaceful situation yet not far from neighbouring towns. The cottage was very well equiped and had absolutely everything that we needed and more! Thank you.
Sylvia Frances
The cottage was absolutely lovely apart from two things. 1 12 toilet rolls do not last a week! Can't there be some spares in the hall cupboard? I too find that duvets are far too hot for the summer months and therefore always take our own 4.5 tog one, as well as an extension lead as the sockets are never in the right place for hair dryers and mirrors. We were quite horrified, when we took off the quilt cover to find the duvet extremely marked and soiled. A complete clean or a new one would be appropriate and we were glad we did not have to use it! We had been told by Sykes that all bedding, towels, tea towels , oven gloves, cushions, books and leaflets would be removed so we brought all our own only to find that everything was present. We did hang onto the phone for two sets of one hour which, incidentally cost me 2.70 to try and get to tell the owner that we were bringing our own things but they refused to giver me any contact details. In fact, they refused to speak to me because they had messed our booking up with that of our daughters and had and still have got our name wrong and put both cottages in our daughter's name I had to get my daughter on the mobile on speaker so she could shout at them to speak to me! Whilst I was hanging on to the phone for al that length of time I looked on their site and if you clicked on book this it said sorry this was not available this added to our stress as we thought they had gone bust! You still have my booking under the wrong name! I have not placed this report earlier as my daughter was in her cottage and I didnt want anything else to go wrong. We all know the problems you have had with Covid but I think Sykes have handled it very badly and will think very carefully whether I book through them again. I certainly would book the cottage again but possibly not through Sykes.
Beautiful cottage, in a lovely location. Very well equipped, clean and comfortable.
The accommodation was very good but the description of the local amenities was not very accurate, it was a long way out and we were unable to walk near the lake because it was private land.
Michaela
A beautiful spotless cottage that had everything you could need. The location was fantastic and close to all the main attractions of the lake district.
Hubert James Kenneth
It was our sixth year in this cottage and it never fails to satisfy our expections
Well placed Cottage. Very convenient for walking. Cottage was very well heated.
The cottage is situated down a long lane, so very peaceful but only approximately fifteen minutes away from the local towns We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.
Outside light did not work, very difficult to see at night.
Great cottage and great location
