Rosewood by the River Reviews

Joanne
We had a good week here over all in spite of the torrential rainfall which lasted for almost the entire week! However, it was great to have this lovely house to come back to and hunker down against the elements and we spent a lot of time here. Comfy rooms, efficient heating and plenty of hot water. Excellent food at the Skelwith Bridge Hotel. Chesters does fabulous cakes if you can ever get a table in there we couldn't!, but happily they do takeaway. Our one tip to anyone coming here though is in finding it it took us a very frustrating hour to locate the property in the darkness. A hint because you can't see the house from the road, as you come over the bridge its immediate sharp right into a driveway that looks like it leads to a garage and not to a house. The name of the house was hidden because the bin was in front of it so couldn't be read from either direction. It's on an extremely busy and dark country road so more precise directions or a clearer name on the driveway would really help.

I have stayed at Rosewood now 4 times and will be returning. It is such a beautiful and comfortable house. Its location right on the river is stunning and ideal for many walks and bike rides right from the front door. I don't really want to say anything negative about Rosewood but this trip I noticed that it really does need a deep clean inside and out, and it is a shame that the turn around clean does not appear to include tidying and cleaning the outside sitting area or front porch. The fridge section of the fridge freezer was not working so we had a tiny substitute fridge for 6 days of our stay. This was wholly inadequate for the size of the property and Lakelovers response when I told them it was not big enough for my fresh food was .....the freezer portion of the old fridge freezer should work fine if there are additional goods you need to store I replied that most of my food was not freezable ie fruit, salad, vegetables and dairy products. Lakelovers did not respond
A truly stunning location with delightful gardens, a joy to look out from the lounge and main bedrooms onto the garden and flowing river. Six adults and two four year olds thoroughly enjoyed their one week stay in a well designed layout with very comfortable furnishings. There is an abundance of games available along with a well stocked library. Initial concern when the fridge would not chill below 11 degrees despite a reading of 3 degrees. Lake Lovers provided an additional small fridge to help with this problem. Hopefully the problem has been looked in to. Some loose pavers need fixing along with a small section of broken chicken wire on the patio. Some spring cleaning required with windows and door frames when opened. The outsides are in need of a wash. The window cleaner came during our stay. Be prepared for very creaky floor boards throughout the house. One onsuite is small. An excellent pub and cafe within a short walking distance over the bridge, but take care as some drivers think they are practicing for the British GP. A feature which helped us choose this cottage, NO PETS . Would we return. You bet.
Louisa
Stunning location, very comfortable house and furnishings, and amazing collection of walking books which we enjoyed. A few external maintenance issues loose steps from the driveway, loose cobbles along the path, trip hazard rusty loose chicken wire mesh on the decking. The property was clean enough for us to enjoy the week, but could do with a deep clean and clear out of cupboards, skirting boards etc. Generally a really lovely property but needs a little TLC to keep its luxury feel.
Rosewood By The River is a stunning holiday home, set in a unique location. The river is an incredible backdrop to the lovely wrap around gardens. The house is extremely well equipped with lovely furnishings throughout.
Lauren
The kitchen is really undersupplied. You need more cooking utensils, serving bowls, saucepans and crockery.
This property has been the most beautiful place we have ever rented for a holiday home. The location is stunning, the house is immaculate and so comfortable. We wanted for absolutely nothing other than to stay an extra week!
Philippa
Such a beautiful house and location! The garden is stunning at this time of year. Accommodated a crowd very well with all the different sitting areas. It feels very homely with the addition of books and games and lovely art. We were blessed with perfect weather all week and did many of the walks recommended in your folder. Very comfy beds and loved the furniture. Would have appreciated a big salad bowl. Hope the washing machine gets fixed for other guests asap. Would love to return one day!
We really enjoyed our stay at Rosewood by the river, this is a stunning property in a beautiful part of the country. The accommodation was very clean and had everything we needed. The surroundings were very picturesque and peaceful. We would definitely return in the future.
Samantha
What a beautiful house. The views of the river are incredible. We had a real fire everyday in the log burner and cooked homemade meals in the range cooker. The beds were uber comfy with duvets like clouds. We will most definitely be back.
We loved Rosewood Cottage. Its a lovely property in a fabulous location. The kitchen was well equipped, we enjoyed the local artwork on display through the property, and the living spaces were much more spacious and well designed than the online photos suggested. Its far too close to Chesters so has put some strain on waistlines but we love that place too. We shall return to Rosewood cottage its a lovely place to stay in the lakes.
Excellent on all points our second stay this year at Rosewood and the house and its location didn't disappoint . The views of the river and its garden are magical ,day and night . The house is clean, beautifully decorated with everything we needed for a home away from home It's perfectly located for walks from the door and nearby Coniston and the Langdales The welcome pack was very much appreciated and we hope to return to this lovely home again. Thank you Carol and Keith
Michelle
Absolutely beautiful. After an 8hr drive from London as soon as you walk in all the stresses just drain away. The views are amazing and this property is perfect and ticks every box. It's our a second time staying here and I was slightly worried about returning incase it wasn't as good this time but it was even better. The owners have thought of everything. The welcome basket was a really lovely touch. No need to pack hairdryers there's one in every room. Listening to the lake water all night running past the bedroom is absolute heaven. Chesters which is a stones throw away is a great place to have breakfast before a lovely walkhike which you can do plenty of from the cottage. There was four of us so we had plenty of room we took games with us but the owners have a big box full of games so no need to. I really cannot recommend this property enough. The owners leave you their phone number and reply to any messages straight away we which was brilliant. Perfect property in a perfect location.
What an absolutely fantastic place Rosewood by the River is! Perfectly located by Skelwith Bridge for local walks but easy enough to access main routes for driving. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, enough space on the sofas and the views from living room were calming. The garden around the property is huge and we spent lots of time just wandering and sitting by the river. It was everything we wanted and more for a wonderful, memorable family holiday.
This was our second visit to Rosewood, our last visit was 8 years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the weather was lovely, the house was just as we remembered it and the beautiful gardens with the river flowing past was perfect. We plan to return again soon. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Stephen
We really enjoyed our stay at Rosewood Great house in a fabulous location! We'll definitely be back!
Leanne
Stunning setting and location. Beautiful house which is well maintained and of a high standard throughout. a joy to stay there.
Rebecca
Rosewood is a fantastic Scandinavian style cottage right on the river. Excellent location for some beautiful walks right from the doorstep. We stayed over Christmas and there was a heavy rain storm but the river showed no signs of reaching the cottage. Well equipped rental with very comfortable beds not to mention the stunning views of the river from the bedrooms. Floorboards are very creaky but I think that just adds a little quirkiness to the place.
Nothing can be better. Spectacular house.
Leanne
Beautiful house and stunning location. Second time I have stayed at Rosewood and I will be back it makes me so happy to be there. Could we have a potato masher please !
Oliver
A stunning home away from home. At the rivers edge with the soothing sound of streaming water to accompany our days. Only niggle is why they cant be bothered to supply the house with enough toilet paper, dishwasher tablets and tea towels for 8 people. What was given to us barely lasted 2 days A minor cost to the owners given what we paid for the weeks rental.
A superb property, come rain or shine! Wonderful location and facilities, especially the log burner and the sun room. We are looking forward to returning. Ps the wine and chocolates mentioned did not materialise, but it wasnt a big deal just letting you know.
Stuart
Beautiful property in a superb location, all finished to a very high standard, fully stocked with everything we could have needed, excellent TV and audio set up, SO comfortable and cosy, floor to ceiling windows in the lounge and two bedrooms which overlooked the gardens to the river and the village on the other side was idyllic! Really good location for getting out an about as well. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending Rosewood by the river...we loved it!!
Andrew
What a fabulous place! A great find, in the perfect location. Our family loved staying here and Im sure we will be back again!
This is a beautiful house in a beautiful location. It is well equipped, well laid out and stylishly decorated. Cannot think of any downsides, we enjoyed our stay very much. Thanks also for the comprehensive info pack and generous welcome gift.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Rose
Alison
The property is wonderful the location by the river is a delight and the 'picture' window is a highlight. Very comfortable.
Star rating would be higher but for the preparation of the property. As always at Rosewood unlike other Lakeland properties a generous welcome basket thank you. Most other aspects were fine as usual at Rosewood. Cleanliness was poor however. Some detritus from previous occupants including some food on clean crockery at the of of the pile and a generous helping of nail clippings let you down. Also do you get the windows cleaned at Rosewood?
Rosewood was perfect in every way. Standards in all departments were first class.
Fabulous stay thanks! What a place to enjoy the new year, we will return! Just a minor thing is the lack of kindling for the fire. and perhaps a Few more loo rolls to get us set up before hitting the shops after a long drive.
Rosewood is a beautiful property in an absolutely brilliant location. It carefully mixes new and modern fittings with a cosy and homely charm and there is plenty of space for a party of eight. There is an abundance of walks for all abilities right from the front door and although it wasnt open whilst we were there, Chesters looked lovely. Finally, the owners were friendly, welcoming, helpful and attentive all in all an exceptional stay. We hope to be back!
Lovely property in a fantastic location. The views over the river are amazing. The house is warm, very comfortable and furnished to a very high standard with everything we needed and more for our stay. We shall certainly be returning again.
Claire
A deep clean of the property required. Lots of dust and property breeds a good airing. Also some better equipment like a better clothing line, kettle and more cooking knives...
Angela
Sadly I left a blouse at the property and it has failed to be found and returned. I stupidly left this blouse on a bed and I know this is my fault and that Lakelovers take no responsibility for this situation but it has rather depressing implications and feel perhaps the owners should be made aware of this incident.
Beautiful location, everything provided that we needed and some extras that ... Beautiful location, everything provided that we needed and some extras that made it very special, we would recommend it highly
The setting is idyllic. The house is comfortable, warm and uncluttered. It is the best choice we have made to date from the Lakelovers list of possibilities. We would certainly go back
This place is a delight to stay in. It was immaculate when we arrived. The location is superb. A nice place to come back after a day out. Lovely views over the river. The eating facilities nearby are excellent. The service from Lakelovers from booking to the end has been excellent
Beautiful property in a lovely location
The view, location and the furnishings of the property were excellent.
