About Rose Cottage

Rose Cottage is a stone-built double-fronted house in the heart of Ambleside, Lake District. This four-bedroom property sleeps eight guests and welcomes two well-behaved dogs. The cottage sits next to Stock Ghyll river with views across to the water wheel. It was the subject of JMW Turner's painting 'The Old Mill' from 1798.

Ambleside offers immediate access to shops, bakeries, cafés, pubs and restaurants. Stock Ghyll Force waterfall is nearby. Lake Windermere sits at the northern tip. Walks start from the door including routes to Fairfield and the surrounding fells.

The cottage features one king-size bedroom with en-suite bath and shower, two king-size bedrooms with en-suite showers and one twin bedroom. A mid-landing shower room serves the twin room. The ground floor has a contemporary kitchen-diner with underfloor heating, a sitting room with woodburning stove and a sunken snug with 65-inch ultra-HD Smart TV overlooking the river.

Bridge House (4 minutes), Waterhead parkland (1.2 miles, 5 minutes), Grasmere (4.4 miles, 12 minutes) and Windermere town (4.7 miles, 10 minutes) are all close by.

Without a doubt , the best place weve stayed in the Lakes. Absolute fantastic cottage with all the character & comfort. Superb interior. Plenty of space. I dont think the location can be beaten. Everything on your doorstep. We never used our car at all. We gained so much additional time , because we didnt have to drive and find parking etc. Owners were super helpful & very professional. Sometimes your accommodation on holiday is just where you stay. I felt that Rose Cottage was a huge part of our Lakes experience. Definitely a 1010 !!!!

Faultless! We absolutely loved our day at Rose cottage, the location and the property were perfect. The cottage is so well equipped and beautifully decorated.

Lovely property in Ambleside. Set on quite a busy road but the property is double glazed and there is a screened garden which is accessed via the front door. The other garden is accessed via the back door. All rooms are well maintained and clean and comfortable. Parking permits were great and although a busy car park we always found a spot. Good access to lots of walks and good variety of local shops and restaurants. It was nice to have the two separate downstairs rooms and the kitchen is large and modern.

Just returned home after a fabulous week in Rose Cottage. The house has such a warm and cosy feel to it. The snug area is fabulous with views over the river, you could sit and watch the water all day. The bedrooms are warm and comfortable with lovely comfortable beds and great onsuits. The location is right in the heart of Ambleside so really easy to pop over to the shops or pubs. Lots of great walks around Ambleside to discover. We have been coming to the Lakes for many years and have stayed in many different houses but Rose Cottage was absolutely the best! Everything was perfect. The house was so clean and well equipped and everything was exactly as the photos. As for the location you just couldnt ask for more. The parking permits were also most welcome. The hosts were lovely too and checked in on us to make sure everything was ok. Super house for our family of 5

The property was wonderful. It felt cosy, warm, and super clean. Comfy beds, too. We felt right at home as a family. Everything was a moments throw away. There were loads of shops around, plenty of places to eat, and no shortage of drinking venues from hot to cold!. We loved the ability to just jump in the car and explore the Lake District. We had the best time at Rose Cottage as a family of mixed ages, the cottage was suitable for everyone including our little puppy. The owners had thought of everything and the welcome hamper was hugely appreciated. The only thing I would suggest would be another baby gate for the downstairs snug. Rose Cottage is beautiful. We stayed with family for a birthday celebration and it was perfect. A great big kitchendining area. The living room was so cosy and the snug a great place for everyone to chill. The whole house is decorated and furnished to a high standard. Its in a fantastic location. We were lucky with the weather so got chance to make use to of both garden areas. There was a lovely welcome box with lots of treats. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful house right in the center of Ambleside. The house was spotless and equipped to a very high standard. We were very impressed with it all. There are two outside areas which are fully enclosed and safe for your dog. Weather was great so we made full use of these especially as they get the sun all day, two garden umbrellas are a helpful touch. Welcome pack was generous. All in all we would recommend this house and will return. Ambleside is a fun place to stay with plenty of walks and things to do right on your door step.

The owners made us feel so welcome made us a lovely welcome hamper. We spent Christmas time at the cottage and my mum and dads 45th wedding anniversary which the owners kindly met us early so I could decorate the house for a surprise for my parents. Just returned from our second stay at Rose Cottage & I can't say enough good things about it! It's in the perfect location for all that Ambleside has to offer, with shops, pubs & restaurants a stones throw away. There are lots of walks from the door, meaning that we rarely moved the car from the very convenient car park with a free permit included with the cottage. The cottage is really comfortable, with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Furniture, bed linen & towels, crockery & cutlery are all really nice quality. The view from the snug out to the beautiful beck is so mesmerising you barely need the 50 inch smart tv
