Gale Mews Reviews

Lovely comfortable holiday house with great views from large terrace. Large sloping private lawned back garden. 7 min short stroll down fairly steep sloped bath to town close to shops, small Tesco, Cinemas, and cosy pubs. Great low fell walks from house inc Wansfell and Loughrigg . Close to frequent local bus route to Grasmere Keswick Windermere Bowness.
A lovely cottage with stunning views of the fells within easy walking distance of Ambleside centre. Warm and welcoming, very clean and wellequipped.
Cottage was very comfortable and clean. Parking not good, especially if you have a large car. Because it was run by a business and not personally by the owners it lacked those few details that made you feel welcome.
Had a fantastic week with the family at Gale Mews. Beautiful property with everything you need when away from home. Very clean with every amenity you would need and a great location so close to the town. Hope to return
A lovely cottage ideally situated close to Ambleside town centre for shops, pubs, restaurants and public transport to all parts of the lakes.
One of the best holiday properties in the Lake District.

This is our third time at Gale Mews and we will definitely be back next year. Outside light on the side of the house was not working it made it very dark getting into the property
Maureen
We had a wonderful holiday in Ambleside and Gale Mews, the property we rented, was outstanding and very worthy of 5 stars. The house is in a wonderful location, a walk of only a few minutes from the centre of Ambleside, but on a very quiet street and with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. While it is an uphillI walk from the town centre, it really is a very short walk. The house has a wonderful, modern openplan kitchen and dining room, a lovely sitting room and, upstairs, 3 very comfortable bedrooms and 2 bathshower rooms, as well as a toilet downstairs at the main entrance. Most of our walks started from the front door but there was also lots of walks a short drive from the house. We had a wonderful holiday there and would highly recommend Gale Mews.

Gale Muse is one of the best holiday homes we have stayed in. The situation is outstanding the facilities and cleanliness first class and the location in Ambleside ideal. We have scored down a little on accuracy of listing above because the pictures do not give it full credit. Our only small improvement would be to have better outside lighting for access on foot in darkness.
Lovely, generous and very clean and well presented property. The only downside was the car parking space is not very suitable for a large family estate car which wasnt clear on the listing. This wouldnt stop us staying at the property again though.
Lovely house and garden absolutely fell in love with it. Not one complaint even the weather was amazing.
Malcolm
We had a wonderful stay at Gale mews. The cottage was very spacious and clean and lovely views from the property overlooking Ambleside and the surrounding hills. It was just a short walk to shops in Ambleside and also to waterside where you can take a ferry down lake Windermere. We would definitely like to stay again in the future.

Fantastic! Possible the best rental we have ever stayed in. Usually the pictures are misleading but not on this property. Excellent proximity to pubs and hiking just right from your door. We did 2 Sykes cottages for a week each, first in the Cotswolds and then here. Wish we had stayed for 2 weeks here instead!! Semi serious question, is this home for sale? We are close to retirement and could be interested.
Our second stay, lovely property in beautiful Ambleside but very disappointed that over a year on two issues still remain the fire has still not been repaired and toilet flush in main bathroom remains problematic. Didn't even report as numerous references in the visitor book and other reviews with responses such as 'waiting for replacement part'. For the price, now 1500 for peak weak would expect features to be in working order or at least acknowledged as an ongoing issue when advertised or through email contact prior to arrival. Bed in main bedroom like sleeping on a brick with cheap duvet and pillows, no cushions on sofas living room lacks comfort after long day waking, especially if it's been wet. Generally a lovely property, but others around with log burners or working gas fires would be our preference in future for the price. Heating system effective though and it is a lovely property in a good spot. Arriving to other people's walking boots in the porch doesn't make it feel like home for a week, but these could have been left from the last guests rather than there permanently.
We really enjoyed our holiday. The cottage was modern, clean and comfortable. Great location and we hope to be back one day.
Beverley
Spotlessly clean, wellequipped, welllocated property with stunning views. If bringing 2 cars the second one should be on the small side. Warning you do need to jump to get to the bed in the single room! Teen son was quite happy mother would have found it impossible! Would happily return.
Alison
We had a fantastic week staying in Gale Mews. A lovely property with everything we could have wanted. Beautiful garden and excellent location too.
We have visited Gale Mews on four occasions over the years and the refurbishment has turned it into a lovely holiday home. Well placed for access to amenities and for walking. Just a slight reduction in comfort and maintenance as the dining chairs were a bit unstable. The livingroom fire and the dining room television did not work. Just minor points which did not detract from the enjoyment of our holiday.
Louise
Gale Mews is a lovely, comfortable home and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. It was spacious, by far the cleanest property that we have stayed in for years and plenty of cooking utensils which made it easy to cater for the family. The entrance hall with space for our walking boots, fleeces and waterproofs made this an ideal base for us. 1010 for everything. We will definitely book this again.
Fabulous location House was as advertised , clean and well equipped. It was chilly the first night and the heating worked but the gas fire did not and precious guests had noted this. Disappointing it had not been fixed. The sofas are very low , too low for comfort if a tall person. We considered booking again but between our first look at the website to check availability and going back the following day to book the price had risen by 200. I spoke to the team and this is apparently like the airlines , if people are looking they hike the price. We were upset and have booked with an individual home owner to return to the Lakes.
We found the all the facilities to be first class. We very much appreciated all the renovations which had been carried out since our previous visit in 2019. The standard of cleanliness was excellent and gave added pleasure to our visit. We much appreciated too the patio improvements and the landscaped garden. Unfortunately the weather was not conducive to outdoor eating.

We have stayed in Gale Mews for many years and it is simply the best self catering cottage in the district. The improvements are generally great, the garden terrace has become a bit bleak and windy and could use some planters and a brolly! But the house is still warm and comfortable and is always our first choice.
The photos in the advertisement showed the back of the property but not the road side. This would have given us a better indication of the property on the road when driving up the road. Whilst the information states that there is parking for two cars, one would have to be extremely small. Property is very well equipped and it was great to have an area for wet coats and muddy boots. Kitchen had all the equipment you could want for catering for a family. All other rooms were well furnished and comfortable. If the property were to be filled with a family it would be useful to have access to extra toilet rolls and towels, although there was a washing machine and drier. The property had been cleaned well but some of the cutlery was dirty. Although it did not affect us, access to the property for anyone with mobility issues would prove challenging. We would definitely use this property again.
Justin
Great cottage very comfortable and clean. This didn't affect us but worth noting that anybody with any mobility issues will find it very difficult to access.
A lovely house in a great position overlooking the town the views more than compensated for the steep walk back! Excellent interior design and level of equipment made for a very comfortable stay. Dependent on your group size, it is worth being aware that the 3rd bedroom is small and the raised bed will limit its usefulness. We were sorry to leave and hope to be back
Joanne
Excellent accommodation in a super location.
We had a lovely stay, the new decorations are great and the cottage was very clean. Well be back next year! Thanks so much
Perfect holiday, after a two year absence due to the pandemic. House ideally located within 5 mins walk of the heart of Ambleside, and contained everything we needed for a home from home holiday.
Elaine
Excellent property in a great location. We were expecting 1 large drive for 2 cars however there are 2 drives that are really tight, suitable for reverse parking a family sized car and a small car
Rachel
Absolutely loved Gale Mews. Perfect location, everything you could possibly need and super clean. The views were lovely from the cottage windows and everything has been done to a high specification. We highly recommend this property.
We had a lovely holiday staying at Gale Mews. The property was clean, spacious, comfortable and it was great to have views across Loughrigg from every room. Dinner and drinks on the patio overlooking the mountain were a highlight.
Pauline
Fantastic cottage in as great a condition as it was when we stayed last year. Will definitely book again. Our two small cars were fine but two large cars would struggle with the size of the parking spaces as advertised in the description. Feel the service is definitely less personal since Sykes took over. Small, practical queries not handled in the same efficient way that HotLs used to.
This was a last minute booking but what a find. Obviously a much loved cottage. It is beautifully decorated, the kitchen is modern with high quality equipment and had everything we needed. The whole house was in superb condition throughout and was warm and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Danielle
We had a fantastic family holiday and made some wonderful memories we would absolutely recommend this place to anyone wanting to go to the lakes. It was very central to ambleside and it fitted out to a very high standard, its very comfortable and family friendly. This break was just what we needed in this current pandemic. Thank you.
