Lyndsay
Lovely character property with a short walk to Ambleside. We found the garden is not fully enclosed for people staying with a dog. We would stay again, a perfect base to explore Ambleside and the Lakes.
Nice location, comfortable place. Showing some wear and tear. Tap caused flood on sat night, though wasnt till mon I could get a response from sykes. Fridge missing shelves, but roomy enough, and has sepetate freezer. Bed linen was torn in places , but bed comfortable. Everything as described.
We had a great stay in Ambleside and the accommodation was homely and had all the equipment that you need.

Unfortunately the pictures are not of the real state of the cottage. First thing that welcome us was an absolute stench. A lot of mould in the bathroom, bedroom doors not closing properly, dishes not clean especially trays and pans, the kitchen tap tied with a cable tie to stop leaking on the cold side, no dishes soap, and the double bed had a very squeaky head board. Aside the headboard singing every time you move in the bed, the central heating pipes are joining in with loud knocking every time the boiler switches on or off. The log burner is enjoyable only if you bring your own logs. Overall, we had the feeling that we paid only for the cottage location but not for the comfort presented on the website. Won't choose this cottage again. Iulian

Nice cottage, let down by lack of care. Lots of good things location, comfort of lounge and bedrooms, decent bathroom, great towels, good kitchen. But too many negatives most importantly, the lounge smelt, of months of sweaty feet, and attracted flies the carpet needs a good clean. Less importantly, but a poor first impression, was that there is no welcome pack, no teacoffee or treats unlike every other cottage I've stayed in, no information about wifi, recycling, nothing in the kitchen e.g. salt, cooking oil. With a bit of care, this would be a really nice cottage. But the carpet desperately needs cleaning I left a day early because I was fed up of the smell and the flies.

Disappointed with the property, considering how expensive it is. The overall cleanliness was poor. We had to wash several cooking items before we could use them not helped by the scouter that was provided. Other faults included light bulb not working on bedside table, no working battery in clock, kitchen scales. No visible replacements of items around. The fridge and freezer also have broken drawers. All of these faults were there when we arrived. Good location, parking and plenty of hot water.
Richard
Lovely cosy cottage and garden in good quiet location if you dont mind a short walk back up the hill from town. Could have felt cleaner but appreciate that this difficult with the agestyle of the building. Noisy water pipes kitchen taps made noise when running shower upstairs.
Katherine
There wasnt any fuel for the log burner which was a bit disappointing when we arrived at 4pm. Also curtains fell off the curtain rail but OK when you were aware of it. Lovely spot though.
Excellent property, lovely location. Definitely stay again. But can we have a cafetire please.
Lake Lovers cancelled our original booking so were forced to choose an alternative costing us another 200. This was the first time we have paid 4 figures for a cottage and have stayed in the Lakes for Xmas many years. The cottage location suited us, a brisk walk down and uphill to town was not a problem and being out of the main bustling town gave the bonus of parking spaces, one large at the rear and one small immediately at the front. Its a shame the cottage was not decorated for Xmas, which was a first. I understand the owners do not live local, but also learned they were there at the day of our stay. Little things detracted from the enjoyment of our stay. I guess when you pay a premium you expect good things. The Lake Lovers team were very helpful and credit to them in assisting most issues. The toilet flush stuck on and had a small leak we were surprised the owners did not also notice this. The quilt in the main bedroom was a summer quilt and had to be changed. There was no heating in the kitchen and with the curtains open caused a cold draught in to lounge. We took a firestick for the upstairs TV, however ended up using this for downstairs as there is zero reception for digital channels we never had an issue at a cottage nearby so guess an aerial upgrade is required. It is advertised as a Smart TV, however I did not want to spend an age entering all my personal passwords for the multiple media players, perhaps the owners should have left all their personal log in's for use? I genuinely cannot recall ever not being given a basket of logs and left bottle of somethingpacket of shortbread or equivalent at a Xmas rental, not obligatory I suppose. It is a shame as when things do not start off right, especially at Xmas, you just cannot wait to get home. Would we stay here again? Might do if it was cheap.
Kathryn
Lovely little cottage up by the falls. We've stayed locally before so knew the hill and the walk up The Struggle! Cottage was clean and warm, the log burner was lovely in the evening.
Joanne
Warm, comfy & wellequipped cottage. Ideally placed for exploring the Lake District. Some improvements needed bedding really needs to be replaced, and downstairs could do with a deep clean

The cottage was as lovely as when we last stayed there, the grass garden were very overgrown when we arrived, on previous visits it was kept very tidy ,to be fair when I raised the issue with Lakelover the garden was given a tidy up, it's a very important part of why we book the cottage so needs to be regularly tidied up, when we had a heating issue the company very efficientquickly sorted it
Garden overgrown and lacking maintenance. First car parking area immediately outside the cottage is only suitable for a small vehicle as the stone wall narrows the space. Needed to park our vehicle large SUV at the top of the property, making it inconvenient for unloadingloading possessions in the heavy rain we had on the day of departure. Vacuum cleaner not very efficient, especially as dogs are allowed. Bed comfort questionable, however, pillows definitely past their 'sell by date'. Kitchen facilities adequate and well equipped, not that we undertook any cooking during our stay
Have stayed here several times as we like it so much but it definitely needs some maintenance. Garden was overgrown this time, mould on bathroom ceiling and walls and drippingleaking kitchen tap needs fixing. Cleanliness rating low as we found tissues, sweets and a children's book under sofas beds.
Fellside is a lovely cosy cottage with a homely feel. It is wellequipped and had everything wrong we needed for our stay. Good bedding and towels also provided. Location was good, although up a steep hill as it had advised on the property information when we booked, this wasn't a problem. The welcome pack was great, with the dishwasher tablets being appreciated. We didn't use the washing machine but I would imagine this proves useful for longer stays and in Winter. Our only recommendation would be that the vacuum cleaner has an internal clean as although it is effective, there is a strong smell of dog when it is in use and which lingers in the cottage afterwards.
Such a great spot quiet but within easy reach of town, beautiful views and access to super walks from the doorstep. Fellside is a beautiful, cosy and well equipped cottage, everything you need for a Lakes holiday.,
Lovely cottage on outskirts of Ambleside, only a short walk into centre but very peaceful and quiet location. Accommodation as described although google maps listing takes you to the other side of the river which needs changing. Comfortable and well equipped. Minor point but a shelf in the bathroom would be a massive help. Took a while to figure out where to park as the sign was obscured by foliage , gardens slightly overgrown. Overall would recommend for a couple or family . Our dog also gives it a thumbs up
A welcome folder would be helpful , with dustbin collection recycling ... A welcome folder would be helpful , with dustbin collection recycling collection arrangements etc A delightful Cottage away from the bustle of Ambleside & central for a great week out hiking the Fells
We had such a great stay at Fellside Cottage. The property location was perfect with just a ten minute walk to Ambleside. The property was really clean and cosy inside and we loved how much character it had. It was great that the garden was secure as this was perfect for our dog to roam round in. The only thing we werent sure about was the bin and recycling situation we were unsure where to put the recycling as we couldnt see any tubs. Maybe a welcome sheet with info on bins and where to put recycling could be given to guests. All in all a great stay! We will be back for sure.
There was no hangers provided or a cafetire would have been helpful too
We had a lovely stay in Fellside and would come back to stay here again. Just one point to make is an outside tap would be handy to wash muddy dogs off as we did bring our portable hose just in case.
We had such an amazing time in this lovely cottage which was so warm and comfortable. Yes, the walk to the cottage from the town could be quite steep, but only for a tiny bit and then it was perfectly manageable. The facilities were fab, great kitchen, lots of space and lovely warm rooms and comfy cosy beds! Great smart tv for those nights in. We would recommend and also stay here again
Elaine
Fellside was a lovely old cottage with plenty of room for two adults and a dog with a pleasant little garden. Facilities were fine with internet, well equipped kitchen and log fire. Being the end of season the bathroom could do with a deep clean getting rid of mould around tiles. The only downside was how steep the walk back from the village was. Maybe I didn't read the earlier reviews properly but be aware that you need to either be a mountain goat or extremely fit to attempt the return journey! Unfortunately I am neither which rather spoiled our stay as we had to take the car down to the village each evening for a meal when I specifically booked the cottage because it was so close to the centre of Ambleside.
Lovely place to stay just the location really big hill to walk up
Lovely, homely cottage. Idyllic location. The best holiday ever. Didnt want to leave
Walter
Cottage was nice beds comfortable facilities ok TV a joke it was like going back 25 years internet not very good watching tv was like looking at a laptop monitor it was that small I noticed other people had commented on the tv never been rectified so hopefully they might take this on board .
We had the perfect week at Fellside cottage. Accommodation was exactly as described and it was great to have the small garden to enjoy the sunshine. Brilliant location as walking distance to Ambleside shops and restaurants but quiet of an evening. Would certainly recommend a stay here if you want to explore the lakes.
Would itbe possible to add some smaller glasses in the kitchen for spirits? This is honestly the only thing I felt could be added. Thank you for a wonderful stay, will be back soon.
Lovely cosy cottage. Perfect for what we needed! Kitchen tap loose which needs looking at but still functioning. Would have been nice to have had some general bits in the cupboards I.e salt, pepper, larger washing up liquid etc that we usually get in other cottages we have stayed in but this did not impact our stay. Would definitely stay again.
Shania
We booked this cottage one week before our departure date and i was surprised when it was available. On the positive side, we loved the location. 10 mins walk from the centre of Ambleside but tucked away in a quiet spot up on the hill. As other guests have stated, the TV was far too small for the living room so i couldn't watch it. On the plus side, the sofas were comfy, clean and the living room was a good size. The kitchen was fine apart from a few dead flies around the window. Remember to bring your own oven gloves too! Upstairs, the twin bedroom needs decorating and bits of paint were chipping off the walls in places which was unsightly. The biggest negative we had was the bathroom. It looks very new and could be lovely despite being small. However, there was lots of mould on the grout around the toilet and around the shower. It was very offputting. To make matters worse, the owner or cleaner had left a squiddgy to clean the shower and that was thick with mould too! In summary, if they removed all the mould, bought a bigger TV and gave the bedroom a lick of paint, it could be lovely. If those things were done, I'd definitely go back.
Cosy cottage but somewhat tight for 4 particularly when eating and also for clothes storage and as others have said cupboard space in the kitchen for a weeks stay. Also agree with other comments about the TV size far too small to watch comfortably. A few of these upgrades would make it a 4 star property as the location, gardens and views are all lovely and great to have parking
A lovely cottage and location. My only concern is that there was no coal or logs or kindling when we arrived. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay.
Trevor
The bedrooms would be better the other way round.
The cottage has brilliant heating and hot water for the cold month of December. The washing machine and heated clothes horse was a great bonus. The sofas were very comfortable and the shower and bath are fantastic. The sofas and beds were comfortable and the bedroom furniture had plenty of space for clothes for 2 people for a 2 week stay, but 4 people even for 1 week I think it would be a struggle. We have two small gripes, one is was the extremely small television. It took a couple of days for our eyes to adjust as it was so small we are in our 30's and do not have bad eyes. Second hand larger TVs are easilycheaply obtained and I would suggest to the owners to perhaps consider it. The TV also does not have any smart function but we remembered to bring a firestick so was able to access Netflix etc. The second gripe is that there was no essentials whatsoever provided in the kitchen in terms of even salt and pepper! No oil, tin foilcling film, bin bigs, etc, you have to buy everything or remember to bring it all. A good selection of utensils are in the kitchen, Again, we read this in reviews so came prepared but such a lovely well equipped kitchen like this cottage has great oven, great dishwasher etc is definitely let down by this. After reading previous reviews we already knew the garden was not fenced off, but our dog does not wander so it was fine for us. We didn't notice any carpet damage or decorating that needed to be done so I assume the owners have rectified this. The cottage is decorated to a good standard and is very cosy. The location is fabulous, a lovely quiet area in easy reach of the village centre. We will be returning!
Lovely cottage. Perfect for our purposes. Easy to heat. Comfortable beds. Great position. A decent welcome pack for basics and log burner would have been nice. Recommended.
