Third time stayed at Ghyll Heights Cottage. Comfortable stay as ever. Reserved parking space closeby deciding factor. Would stay again.

A perfectly positioned, well equipped house with all the facilities you could possibly need. A short walk into Ambleside town with lots of interesting shops and restaurants and a 15 min drive to Lake Windermere. Highly recommend.

Our second visit to this property and we absolutely love it. It is well set out with everything you could possibly need.No problem with the hot water or the heating and the dressing room is an absolute godsend!!Nice walk into the town centre for evening meals.

Fabulous place to stay. ..the 2 rooms nicely separated for privacy and the addition of a dressing room was perfect for me.Plenty of hot water and showers were very good.Nice walk into town each evening

Good location close to the town centre. It was dark when on arrival but when we opened the door it was a warm and welcoming environment.You walk in on the middle floor with the lounge and kitchen both very good.Double bedroom downstairs with bathroom outside and upstairs to main bedroom with en suite also largest bed Ive ever slept in. Location is about 1 mile from Windermere also close to two smaller lakes Rydal water and a bit further on Grasmere lake which is stunning.All in all we had a enjoyable stay at Gyhll Heights.

The cottage itself is lovely and in a great location for walking into Ambleside. However the cottage wasnt cleaned after the last guests. No hoovering had happened in the living area, there were feathers and rubbish under both sofas. There were also long dark hairs in both bath tubs and on the bedding downstairs. And although the advert mentioned suitable for toddlers and thank you for the cot bedshighchair even though we didnt use them maybe a stair gate would also be good to provide just as the property is over three floors. Only other thing to mention in the listing, is the parking. The garage is great but the two wooden beams hanging down were awfully close to the roof of our car so might be worth adding for those to do have larger vehicles.

Excellent accommodation had everything we needed, beds were really comfy, kitchen very well equipped, the whole house was tastefully decorated was like being home from home. Realky liked the fact it was very central to the town and perfect location for walks. Would highly recommend this place and would definitely book again.

Ghyll Heights was just what we hoped, very comfortable and homely in a great location. It's perfectly set up for two couples. The only blip was that the heating didn't come on automatically so the downstairs bedroom was very cold. We called Sykes and someone came out very quickly and showed us how to manually turn the heating on which was great. We will definitely stay again on our next trip to the Lakes.

A comfortable and well equipped cottage within easy walking distance of the centre of the town of Ambleside. Convenient parking space for car a bonus. Comfortable large double bed in each of the two spacious bedrooms. Would definitely stay again.

Excellent location, short but steep walk into the lovely town, great to have parking. Spacious bedrooms. Really surprised to have no welcome pack, unusual to arrive and there not be even a few tea bags and a bit of milk. Heating strange. We stayed during a very hot weekend in May, but the bedroom on the bottom floor was absolutely freezing, but the bedroom on the top floor was like a sauna.

Great stay for New Year, cosy cottage and well stocked kitchen. A spare key would have been useful.

We've had a lovely few days staying at Ghyll Heights! The location is great, we walked into Ambleside easily. You can leave your car parked undercover or in front of the door and find walks from the cottage. The views from the doorstep are fabulous and at the rear overlook the waterfall gorge. The cottage is very well equipped and furnished, having two king size beds with bathrooms was perfect for us as two couples. There's loads of storage too and a dressing room next to the smaller bedroom downstairs which was useful. It was warm and cosy with heating on demand and there's instant hot water. The door wreath and Christmas decorations indoors was a nice touch and made us feel festive! Our only negative comment was that behind the bed and bedside units and the fabric headboard in the downstairs bedroom were quite dusty which affected my husband as he's asthmatic. we didn't check in the other bedroom A deeper clear now and again would help. We pulled the bed out and vacuumed. Overall a very comfortable stay with everything we needed. Thank you.

The plug in upstairs bath faulty lets water out when pressed down . Apart from that we couldnt fault the place and would definitely stop there again

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage! It was extremely cosy, comfortable and clean, and also very well equipped. It is just a short stroll down into Ambleside, and the cottage is in a scenic location by Stock Ghyll, with fell walks from the doorstep. We particularly enjoyed a walk to Grassmere along the coffin trail and Freshers Cafe in town. We will return!

We booked Ghyll Heights guided by the Lakelovers 4. 4 star rating but, having read the reviews prior to our stay, we had some concerns. One of our main concerns related to repeated references to the poor standard of the cleanliness of the property. With great difficulty, we managed to speak to someone from Sykes in the week leading up to our stay, and we were assured that all issues had been dealt with. Upon arrival at Ghyll Heights, we were unpleasantly surprised to find the kitchen in an unacceptable state of cleanliness. This included sticky food on the front of the washing machine, food and drink spillages around the bin area, food and drink spillages on the dishwasher door and down the adjacent wall, cupboard shelves that needed cleaning before storing food, food scraps in the cutlery drawer, and rust and grime on the inside of the fridge door closing mechanism. In the dining area of the sitting room we found that the four dining chairs were in a very poor state, with tears in the fabric, various food stains on all four chairs and, on one chair, crusty food stuck down the side. We managed to speak to somebody at Sykes who told us that the owner uses a private cleaner and nothing could be done until the following day at the earliest. However, when we made a second call, we spoke to another member of the Sykes team who agreed that their own cleaners should come to sort out the issues. Two helpful members of the Sykes cleaning team did arrive that same afternoon and cleaned the kitchen and wiped down the chairs as best as they could. They obviously could not deal with the torn fabric but, after further pushing from ourselves, Sykes arranged for two of the chairs to be taken away and replacements provided. Given the ongoing issues with the cleanliness of this property, we would question its 4 star rating.

The shower in the upstairs bathroom didn't work. Please get a qualified electrician to check the switch wiring and to make sure the metal wall box is correctly earthed.

We had a lovely stay in Ghyll Heights. We found it very suitable for two couples having the bedrooms on upper and lower floor. Good comfortable bed and nice bathrooms, kitchen and bedrooms. Plenty of hot water. Found the lounge a bit dated and could do with a larger coffee table and a couple of footstools. As we opened the front door we were surprised to find a stained rug going into the lounge which didn't give the right impression of the property. Ambleside is a very charming town and lovely shops and eating places. Beautiful place to visit.

An excellent cottage for two couples or families with a lovely bedroom and bathroom on both levels and a comfortable lounge and well equipped kitchen. The electric heated clothes airer was great for drying the washing. Parking is easy and the cottage is in a great location for walking into Ambleside central or accessing the roads out of town. Check in as late as 4pm is a bit of an annoyance.

We liked the fact that everything was clean and that everything worked. There was plentiful crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment. The beds were comfortable and the cottage was in a pleasant, quiet location. We were very disappointed with the balcony which was extremely small with two tiny stools to sit on and we feel that it should be made clear in the house details that this is not a usable balcony. The parking for two cars was so small that once the second car was parked, the driver had to get out via the hatch back as the doors could not be opened. The downstairs bedroom was extremely cold on arrival and smelled musty. This was slightly better once we realised that we could turn up the radiator which came on for a couple of hours each morning but the musty feel remained and the room was never warm even though it was warm and sunny outside. The fridge in the kitchen could only be opened when the kitchen door was closed and the pedal bin under the counter was too tall to be opened under there. Mention should have been made in the details that the cottage is up quite a steep hlll. For us this was fine but perhaps for some others could be a difficulty.

A nice property in a good location in Ambleside. Its a steep uphill walk back from the town, but a lovely location with the bonus of a dedicated car parking space. Comfortable beds and lots of kitchen equipment. The heating system is probably a bit old, so the living room doesnt get very warm, but the owners have provided a fan heater, so no problems there. Generally clean, but there are cobwebs in the loft room windows, some dusty ornaments and fluff and feathers under the sofas, but the important areas were sparkling! Wed definitely stay here again, and recommend Zeferellis restaurant, The Golden Rule pub, and the butcher on North Street.

The house was really lovely. Everything we needed. It was our first Xmas away from home so we where a bit dubious about what supplies where in the kitchen.. I am pleased to say that Xmas dinner was a success. The closeness to the town was brilliant as was the tranquility of the surroundings. Lovely decor throughout. I would like to point out though that the downstairs bedroom window did not keep out the light from the annoying light outside,so I didnt get a good nights sleep..may I suggest a black out blind to ensure the light doesnt penetrate the curtains,which where lined.. but the street light is so bright. We had a lovely stay however.. and would recommend to friends snd family.

We spent a lovely weekend break in this cottage, only 2 of us, and at a very reduced rate for last minute booking. The cottage was well equipped and warm. The plumbing was first class with an Aqualisa shower ! About 5 minutes walk into Ambleside.

Very clean and tidy accommodation. Well equipped. Comfortable beds. Parking space nearby was ideal.

We had a lovely short break at the cottage last week . We were 2 couples sharing the cottage and having 2 bedrooms on different levels gave us the perfect privacy which we were looking for . Communal kitchen and lounge meant we could spend some time together too . Cottage location is very good to walk to Ambleside town n lake , listening to the water fall made the stay extra special . Cottage is thoughtfully decorated n equipped . Given 4 stars for cleanliness as could see some dust on ornaments n table side lamps . Overall a good stay

It was wonderful for my friend & I to have a large ensuite bedroom each, both comfortable & luxurious. A couple of suggestions would be the provision of an ice tray and a couple of small folding chairs to use on the balcony. Other than that both my friend & I were really happy with the accommodation & would happily return & recommend to friends & family. Thank you

Property was great, Id suggest better than it looks in the pictures. Everything needed was available. Great location for the centre with plenty of shops and eating options. Would happily stay again and recommend to others.

My friends and I recently stayed at Sykes Cottage in Ambleside, a delightful home stay nestled in the picturesque Lake District. Our group of four found the experience to be mostly positive, with a few minor drawbacks that didn't overshadow our overall enjoyment. Locationwise, Sykes Cottage couldn't have been better situated. It is conveniently close to Stock Ghyll falls, allowing us to embark on scenic walks and immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of the area. Additionally, the iconic Bridge House was within walking distance, providing a fascinating glimpse into the region's history. The cottage's proximity to these attractions was a definite highlight of our stay, enabling us to make the most of our time in Ambleside. Moreover, proximity to the market and a well maintained kitchen was very handy. While our experience was predominantly positive, we did encounter a couple of minor issues which should be taken as a feedback to improve this lovely house. Firstly, we found that the bathroom door of the basement room was not closing properly, which was a slight inconvenience when privacy was desired. Secondly, the process of disposing of garbage wasn't as straightforward as we would have liked. Clear instructions or labeled bins would have made it easier for us to ensure proper waste management during our stay. The kitchen was not stocked with any staples, like pepper, sugar, tea or coffee which made us feel a bit unwelcome. As we have stayed in other Sykes cottages in Glenridding and it did have a nice welcome pack, I feel its more of a property related comment. Overall, our time at Sykes Cottage in Ambleside was thoroughly enjoyable. The spacious rooms, tasteful living room decorations, and proximity to Stock Ghyll and Bridge House added to the charm and appeal of the property. We would gladly recommend Sykes Cottage to fellow travelers seeking a comfortable and welllocated home stay in the Lake District.

Lovely place everything as expected. Bank from town not good if you older or not good on your pins but we managed it fine otherwise everything was great
