A pleasant little cottage, very comfortable for the three of us. Would have liked to have had some logs and kindling for the fire as a welcome starter. Top floor of the staircase needed careful consideration, but then I am 6' 1. Learnt my lesson after a few knocks to the head. Would book again.
A Wonderful Cottage in a Fantastic Spot Wainwright Cottage is a wonderful place to stayspacious, cosy, and in a fantastic position. Just moments from the shops, close to the park, and with great walking routes right from the door, its ideal for families, friends walkers, and dog owners. The dedicated parking space is a huge bonus, and the porchboot room is brilliant for all your outdoor gear though it did leak a bit during wet weather. Inside, the openplan layout makes it feel sociable and welcoming. The big kitchen is perfect for cooking and chatting, with the dining table and lounge all flowing together. We were two parents, two 17yearolds, and a dog, and it suited us perfectly. We had lovely meals and cosy nights by the wood burner. The sofas arent the comfiest, but theyre easy to move together for games and chats. There are two double bedrooms with fantastic views and two bathrooms. The main bathroom is huge and would be perfect with a shower addedat the moment, the only shower is in the loft, which works fine but is a bit of a squeeze. It can be awkward if everyone wants a shower, as it means trailing up to the tiny loft bathroom. That said, there was always plenty of hot water for showers and baths, which made things easy and relaxing. A new mattress in the loft bedroom and some more luxurious pillows would also be a great touchnot a lot, just enough to lift the comfort. We were sad to leaveas always when leaving Ambleside, our favourite place in the Lakes. With a few thoughtful updates, bathroom beds and some furniture and tv replacements a few games we brought our own this could easily be classed as a luxury cottage. Id definitely return. 810 for the fantastic position, parking, and cosy openplan layout. It has all the practical things you need.

Just got back from Wainwrights Cottage , we were supposed to go on Saturday to get there at 4 but it poured all day so traveled on the Sunday earlygot there at 11 the porch has flooded and stunk of stagnent water, put the mat outside because it was soaked, cleaned the porch twice,it smelt better. Wainwrights is situated just behind the Main Street and is ideal for the shops and parks and walking to catch the boat for a trip around the lake.We also had a private car park outside which was great.A lot of marks on Carpets,Walls, floors it could do with a deep clean, toilet seat was yellow underneath. It was so quiet on a night time Really nice,We would stay in the area again .
The cottage was lovely , brilliant location , near all the shops and restaurants , great to have a car parking space in a quiet courtyard, bathroom with big roll top bath was lovely to soak in when we got back from hikes . There were a couple of bits that could may be looked at . Two slates in the bed on the first floor were broken making the mattress sag , the starter button on the hob doesnt work so we had to search for matches or a lighter. Maybe a little more attention to cleaning there were empty crisp packets between the bed and side board that werent ours, but overall a lovely stay .

2nd stay here. Inside was perfect apart from blood stain on bed sheet, no orange guide in drawer for tv use. The rear courtyard and the terrace off bedroom were covered with weeds and the patio table n chairs were dirty. Otherwise perfect spot close to amenities.
I've said on previous visits, the roof terrace above the kitchen needs cleaning regularly and all the leaves removing, same around the front and back doors, not kept very tidy, also the microwave needs replacing, it's all rusty now and there's a loose electrical socket behind the bedhead in the 1st floor bedroom. The stay itself was OK but no essentials provided.
Lovely cottage, perfect location. Clean when we arrived. Both bedrooms a great size. We feel a few things could be added logs for the log burner, tea, coffee, oil for cooking would be helpful. We also had no hand soap in the top bathroom. We feel this is a requirement. Overall a lovely stay and we would come back but a few things to be added.
Elaine
We loved everything about the property. The location was perfect for exploring The Lake District and just a few minutes walk into the beautiful Ambleside. My only couple of negatives would be that the rooftop terrace needs to be cleaned off as full of long grass and weeds and note to future guests, there are no basic kitchen supplies ie washing up liquid, cooking oil etc. This obviously didnt spoil our holiday, we had a great time. If you want to eat out we would recommend Lucys on a Plate amazing menu and food and Dodds.
Sally-ann
The cottage was beautiful and well equipped in a lovely quiet corner but close to all the amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only minor suggestion I would make is to have hand soap available in toilets or to state in listing that it needs to be brought with you.
Richard
The balcony on the first floor was unusable due to be like a wild flower meadow, covered in weeds!
Anthony
We were unable to locate the 'orange folder' containing WiFi details for two days finally finding them in a 2 photo frame on the lounge wall! !!! I made 16 calls to the help line with no answer to any. On Wednesday the porch flooded so I emailed your care team, again with no response. I have photos to support these details.
Lovely property for our needs and great location, even though in centre of Ambleside it was very quiet, well equipped for eating in, the only 2 things that were a slight issue, we couldnt get in the bike store and the table in the kitchen is extremely wobbly, otherwise we would definitely stay there again.
Gorgeous cottage finished to a very high spec. Comfortable and quiet. However, there should be a warning about the low ceiling and beam as it's easy to hit your head coming downstairs from the upper floor. There was also problems with the shower. The water ran cold after a couple of minites and it wasn't possible to have 2 showers in succession which is a big issue as the accomodation is for 4 guests. I would also suggest removing the fake grass on the terrace outside the master bedroom as it's a lovely space but can't be used even on a dry day if it's rained recently as it's soggy and waterlogged
We visited Wainwrights Cottage at Xmas, & only problem was hob ignition not working & had to be lit manually. We have just visited again in October & hob still not mended also upon arrival found a pan & bowl under Boiler catching leaking water. We thought this must have been reported as cleaners must have seen this, so we expected someone to come & repair it. 3 days later it was still the same, awhich stopped us having shower as the water pressure wasn't reaching second floor due to problem with Boiler & water was cold in shower aswell as shower head full of limescale and blocked. We tried to have bath which was on first floor, but the plug for bath was too small, which meant water just escaped & it wasn't until day 4 when we were leaving that we found a larger plug on floor under bath! Not happy with our visit as feel it's expensive for what we experienced, so will not book Wainwrights Cottage again.
A beautiful cottage & wonderfully convenient for the town centre & park yet so very quiet. Although it was wonderful weather we were unable to use the balcony as it was water logged. The first floor bathroom is beautiful but a shower would have been appreciated as the second floor shower is so small and not very efficient. However, having said this we would certainly rebook the cottage without thought and would recommend to others.
The house was clean and tidy but the outside the terrace and the tiny yard off the kitchen was dirty and full of fallen leaves. I rang Lakelovers straight away and was told that the it was outside the cleaners' remit to clean the furniture outside and that the maintenance team cleaned these areas every few weeks. When I asked how this could be when we had paid nearly 1000 to have a week's holiday in somewhere that had undergone a deep clean, I again was told that the cleaners didn't clean outside even though they were there on the property and could see it was dirty and that the maintenance had to come and do it. They arrived on Tuesday I was told next day and did a good job, but I had to clean the chairs and table on the terrace before they came as, obviously, we wanted to sit outside overlooking the fells. This was posted on the website in May The small outside area outside the back door needs some maintenance, it hasn't been swept forever, there's dried leaves everywhere and weeds, also the upstairs outside terrace is the same, I had to clean the table and chairs myself to sit on, they were covered in bird poo and filthy! This in July 22 Stylish Roof terrace could do with a spruce upweed. The leather sitting room furniture was in a shocking state and partly been covered by a throw to hide the scratches and wrinkles. This was posted in April Overall the cottage inside is tired and would benefit from some comfortable chairssofas. SO NOTHING HAD BEEN DONE TO ENSURE A CLEAN OUTSIDE AREA FOR EVERY INCOMING VISITOR AND THE OLD FURNITURE HAD NOT BEN UPGRADED. The overmirror light in the shower room and one of the undercupboard lights in the kitchen were not working.

The location was excellent however, the cottage itself had one or two surprises such as 1 difficult staircase particularly to the 2nd floor bedroom lots of banging heads. As we are active senior citizens we felt we should have been made aware. 2 Ensiute shower room was very very small with sloping ceiling more banging of heads.Shaverlight didn't work. Overall the cottage inside is tired and would benefit from some comfortable chairssofas.
The cottage is ideally located within a short walk of Ambleside town centre. There is one parking space. The cottage is warm and the beds are comfortable. The view from the bedroom on the top floor is beautiful. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for a short stay. We enjoyed using the wood burning stove in the evenings.
After a stressful year we were looking forward to a quiet, chilled Xmas break & we were not disappointed. The cottage is in a great location & is really cosy, making it a home from home. We were only sorry our stay was not longer! Will definitely return in the future.
Stayed there in the spring and its very well situated, also has a very good heating system, Stayed at many previous cottages in the lakes and none as war.
Amanda
We had a very comfortable stay at Wainwright Cottage and would definitely book again when in the area. The only negative for us was the leaves outside. They had not been swept ,were very slippery and would be dangerous for anyone using mobility aids.
Ashleigh
Prime location for Cottage, the cottage is lovely , would I go back? possibly just not through Lake lovers. raised my concerns a few months in advance about the previous comments I had seen on this cottage all about how clean the place was or wasn't in this case, I was reassured that Lake Lovers had a new cleaning company and this place would be spotless deep cleaned if you listen to the call, well if that's what a 'cleaning company' call a Deep clean I really do not know how they are still running, I wanted to swapchange cottages because of this and a past booking I had also with Lake Lovers but they would not allow it and promised me it would be deep cleaned for me, in my response I stated should it not be deep cleaned for every new customer? Ill not be using this company again......
This is the second time we have stayed at this property. Its a lovely cottage and ideal for a small family. The cottage was cleaned to a very high standard and very comfortable. We wouldnt hesitate to stay here again. We did report that the flat roof on the front porch had some water leaking through the light fitting following some very heavy rain. The maintenance team did come out and clear the leaves off the roof but it was still leaking when we left.
Louisa
Bathroom and shower lovely. Space to take bootsshoes off great. Location and the 2 parking options brilliant. The kitchen seemed fine but we didnt use it a lot. Overall good, not sure its 4 star at the moment, but could be. Space is great. But the cottage feels like it needs a deep clean and an update as lots of dust, dirty marks and tired looking furniture. No batteries in tv remotes, some lights out, blinds in front room not the best, stains on curtains, outside areas full of weeds etc. Sofa not the comfiest. But it could be great.
House advertised with wii no batteries, only one working game other 2 were scratched. Boiler turned off, so no hot water.. and no instructions provided. Nice new washing machine but no instructions. No welcome pack not even a pint of milk for cup of tea on arrival. Shower wouldnt stop dripping. Stylish Roof terrace could do with a spruce upweed. On the positive side, bed lovely and comfortable, bathroom lovely.
Murray
Our experience was good and we enjoyed our holiday however I also rely on honest feedback and would like to share my thoughts. The 1st floor bedroom and outdoor sitting area was dirty, lots of old bird droppings on the balcony area, the carpets and curtains were stained and one of the wooden bed slats was broken under the bed. The main TV is very dated and would occasionally show NO SIGNAL, to fix this we would turn off the TV and turn it back on several times and the fault would disappear. In this modern day, a Smart TV can be purchased for less than 200. Overall, the value for money experience is 710. By no means a bad experience, just room for improvements.
Steven
The cottage was exactly as described and ideally placed for all amenities. The roof terrace garden was an added bonus. The roll top bath was described as excellent by my partner. We would not hesitate to book the property again.
Could do with a good clean. Front porch very shabby and back porch too. Outdoor terrace off 1st bedroom needs artificial grass replacing. Position of property perfect
Found the location to be excellent, close to the ambleside town as well as just a short walk to lake windermere. Found the cottage to be just a short drive to the other parts of the lake district. Cottage was clean and spacious with good views.
