Is Troutbeck Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
Troutbeck suits couples rather than families with children. The one-bedroom apartment has limited space and no garden or outdoor play area. Ambleside offers family activities including lake cruises from Waterhead and gentle walks through Rothay Park. The two local cinemas provide entertainment on rainy days. Stock Ghyll Force waterfall makes an exciting short walk for older children.
For Couples
This ground-floor apartment creates an ideal romantic base for two. The super-king-size bed dominates the bedroom while the coal effect fire adds atmosphere to cosy evenings. Walk three minutes to Ambleside's restaurants and pubs for dinner. The recently refurbished shower room and well-equipped kitchen mean you can prepare romantic meals. Private parking outside removes stress. Waterhead sits 15 minutes walk away for sunset lake cruises.
Pet Friendly
Troutbeck does not accept pets. The property operates a strict no-pets policy for all bookings. If you need dog-friendly accommodation in Ambleside, you will need to search for alternative properties in the area. The apartment's ground-floor layout and nearby walking routes would otherwise suit dogs well, but the owner does not permit animals inside.

Troutbeck Reviews

This was a nice, comfortable apartment for the week small but just enough for two of us and our baby. Perfect location by the two best pubs in town. It was clean and the kitchen was wellequipped, and it being in Ambleside it was very handy having a parking space. Nice collection of book, DVDs, CDs, and games to pass time on drizzly day. The bed was big and comfy although I don't think it's far off needing a new mattress. There were just a few points for us that took away from some of the comfort of the property. Whilst storage for clothes is great, it's difficult having nowhere to put coats and shoes. There is the communal cupboard outside the apartment great in theory but not particularly practical in reality. Just putting coat hooks on the wall by the front door would make a world of difference. Also, because the property is carpeted it can get quite mucky quite quickly particularly in wet weather. It would be good to put a mat by the front door, a built in one would be great but even just a small one to wipe muddy shoes on would make a lot of difference to the amount of dirt that appears on the carpet. Some soap in the bathroom would have also been a nice addition. The shower bracket was very loose and rickety, almost dangerously so. I noticed that this has been addressed in previous reviews for quite some time so it's a shame this hasn't been addressed. There was some mildew in the bathroom, unavoidable in these kinds of properties but it wouldn't hurt to give it a regular clean. There was also some dust and cobwebs in nooks and crannies, so perhaps more frequent, deeper cleans would be beneficial. Lastly, the WiFi was incredibly slow even for this part of the world. There's almost no point having a Smart TV if the WiFi isn't fast enough to stream anything! We would definitely consider staying here again in the future if some of the above things are addressed. Overall we did have a nice stay.
Absolutely loved this apartment, extremely clean, ample storage place for clothes, enough space to store food for a weeks stay. Bathroom is beautiful, only tiny criticism the smaller showers bracket is loose and the shower flips up sometimes, needs tightening or replacing. But this didnt mar our stay at all in this lovely apartment. Lots of useful information provided in folder and file boxes on the shelves. So handy to have parking directly outside and just kept our empty suitcases in there for the week. Didnt move the car all week, so many lovely walks nearby and buses seem to go everywhere. Would absolutely recommend and we would definitely stay at Troutbeck again if we go to Lake District again which I hope I do b
Would have liked more storage. We werent happy to put our suitcases in the communal cupboard. There was a Netflix account which seemed specific to the cottage but this stopped working on the last night.

Oven tray was very, very dirty with burned food. Had not been cleaned so I had to clean it before use. Dishwasher not emptied can only assume previous occupants responsible. The multifunction microwaveoven is a total disaster. Way too complicated to use. Just replace with a simple microwave. Wall lights in lounge are on a dimmer switch but flicker. Fit an LEDmodule to the switch. Property comfortable and apart from above issues well appointed. Just trying to be constructive. CS
The property was very comfortable and cosy. But a few things did let it down. The light above the front door did not work, the front door was very stiff and difficult to open and closing. We were also disappointed by the total lack of radio signal and occasional loss of TV signal during watching programme. Other than late it's a really great place to stay.

A small apartment but welldesigned so the space was used well. The kitchen was wellstocked with utensils and equipment. The bathroom was very smart with a fabulous shower. It would be good to include in the property details that towels are provided. We were surprised that only one toilet roll was provided for the week. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage. Having a dedicated parking place was a real bonus!
Keys left in wrong place which caused unnecessary stress no apology received.
This was our second stay at Troutbeck. The property is lovely and extremely well equipped. The last time we stayed, the only thing we noted was the old settee. This time, not only had the furniture been replaced, but there was new carpet. It really is a great property, well situated away from the busy part of town and with a great parking space right outside. I cannot recommend highly enough and we will definitely stay again.
Veronica
Seating in lounge too soft no support. An empty cupboard would have been appreciated we had to use valuable work surface for our cereal packets but otherwise kitchen good. Bed very comfortable & bathroom excellent loved the mirror.
Ashley
What an absolutely lovely place to stay, parking at the front door, fully equipped kitchen we didnt once think we should have brought this or that with us, huge comfy bed, a lovely big shower cubicle one of my holiday home gripes is a lot of places dont cater for showering people over 6 feet tall and I end up crouching with a chest height shower, not in this one thankfully! , and all a two minute stroll down into Ambleside. All the local walks were straight out of the door, with the kitchen and bedroom windows looking up at Wandsfell and a front window looking across at Loughrigg both views served as weather indicators most mornings! Over the years we have stayed just around the corner from this place in a flat on the Falls estate, but this just seems more convenient and quieter. Will definitely be back to stay here.
Perfect place to stay ,all clean and tidy . Has all information about the appliances in the property.Super king size bed very comfortable, large fantastic shower, lovely kitchen. The kitchen, bathroom seems to be reasentley new the front room is clean and comfortable but a little dated.Situated in a very quiet holiday complex with your car parked outside your front window and a 3 minute walk to the busy beautiful Ambleside town this place is better than perfect place to stay.We used the buses mostly to get around as it was only 2 each way to visit all the other lakes around. We would 100 recommend this property to everyone.Thankyou for a great stay.
We had a wonderful week staying at Troutbeck. The property was immaculate and very well kitted out. The kitchen and bathroom are fitted and equipped to a high standard. The bed was massive and comfortable. My only criticism is the settee, which could do with updating. It is very low and soft and not so easy to get up once you have sat down. Recycling facilities on site would be a bonus. We are already looking to book a return stay.
This was the second year running we've stayed at Troutbeck. It's ideally situated, quiet location but just a 5 minute walk to the centre of Ambleside. The apartment is ideal for 2 people and being able to park right outside is a bonus. For some reason the wifi didn't work the first couple of days we were there but apart from that everything was great.
Lovely appartment in a perfect location. Couldn't fault it & will use again
A very comfortable stay again. Troutbeck is such pleasant place that we have been to twice and will definitely come here again. An ideal location both within the Lakes and also within Ambleside. Thank you for keeping such a beautiful place.
Very well equipped for such a small apartment. Only complaint was poor quality pillows which gave no support. A good night's sleep is so important. Unfortunately I have returned home with back pain !
The property was excellent and surprisingly quiet as it has other properties on either side and above. Parking was good. The facilities were really excellent the property has great attention to detail a hotwater bottle! and a very good selection of books, DVDs and maps and information about the area. All the furnishings and fittings are good quality and the shower was excellent and roomy. Only very small niggles 1. We couldn't get the DVD to work we got it to turn on as the only remote that seemed to be the DVD wouldn't work, despite changing the batteries. 2. A nonslip shower mat would be useful. We had to buy one. 3. We understand that the kitchen is small but there was very little storage space, especially for vegetables we had to store ours in a bag in the sitting room. Any suggestions?
The apartment was fantastic definately value for money and well situated to explore the area.
Troutbeck is ideal for 2 people with excellent facilities comfy sofa and bed and gpgreat bathroom with walk in shower. The location is up a hill 5 minutes from the centre of Ambleside and parking for 1 car directly in front of the property.
Well equipped and comfortable. Good location, only issues for us were that the soap in the bathroom was almost empty and the pillows were not very plump and supportive.
We have used this flat many times. It is convenient in all sorts of ways. The only problem we had this year concerns the poor washingup standards of previous occupants. We will almost certainly stay here again.
Pamela
Had a great week look forward to coming back

This is a very comfortable, well equipped ground floor flat. It's in a good location quiet and yet very close to the town.
A well equipped and comfortable flat with easy walking access to the centre of Ambleside 5 minutes. My only suggestion would be to consider having a second set of keys in the flat for us both to use. This would reduce the worry of locking ourselves out!
Amanda
Cosy little apartment in a really great location just a few minutes walk from all the amenities of Ambleside. Lovely shower, kitchen had all the items you might need, comfy bed.
Matthew
We had a fantastic holiday in the lakes and Troutbeck was the perfect little base. Just a 3minute walk down the hill to the beautiful town of Ambleside with plenty of cosy pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops it's perfectly located for exploring Lake Windermere a 20 minute walk to the pier and the fells and mountains nearby we'd recommend Loughrigg Fell and Wansfell Pike, both of which are good, steady walks with stunning views. Rydal is also a short walk away, and is a scenic little village with plenty to see Rydal Water is spectacular on a clear day. The apartment itself was clean, cosy and had everything we needed. The kitchen and bathroom have obviously been recently refitted and were sparkly and new. The living room was a little dated, but that's a minor gripe. The books and leaflets with recommended walking routes were really handy too we did a few of these! and the check inout process was a piece of cake! Overall, a cosy little retreat in the perfect location! We'd return in a heartbeat.

Hi. Your online description states fridgefreezer. Not so. It's a grudge with an ice box compartment as correctly stated in the property's inventory. Disappointing for us as we had bought some stuff for the freezer on our way to the property! We had an issue with an annoying leaky and constantly dripping gutter. Dripping from roof of property onto roof of our bedroom resulting in disturbed sleep. Waited till Monday morning 4th October to report it not an emergency so couldn't contact anyone over weekend Went to Ambleside office to report issue. All sorted by t time. Massive thanks to the young lady on duty that morning. Very friendly, apologetic and efficient and not been working there long. Pl pass on our appreciation to her. Ta.
The light in the bathroom may need looking into as it flickered on and off as it wished
A very cosy and clean place with everything we needed for a week in the Lake District. The shower was amazing! Very nice bathroom, could tell it had been recently refurbished. Very well equipped kitchen and comfy bed!
We stayed next door on our first holiday together a few years ago and wanted to go back the location is ideal, nicely tucked away from the town but close enough to walk to all it has to offer. Accommodation was great nicely decorated and equipped great big bed and lovely bathroom.
