Sweden Bridge Cottage Reviews

We had a wonderful stay at Sweden Bridge. It was ideally located to walk into Ambleside and venture further by car. The coffin walk to Grasmere and the walk to Sweden Bridge were beautiful. Five of us spent a very comfortable week there over Christmas and would definitely visit again. We didnt want to leave!!!

A very comfortable cottage in a lovely village.
A lovely cottage in a beautiful and quiet location with amazing views. Plenty of walks from the door and easy access to Ambleside. The cottage had everything we needed including the best shower we have ever used away from home.
This was the first time we visited Sweden Bridge cottage although we have been a regular visitor to Ambleside for over thirty years. The cottage is stunning and the photos do not do justice to the space within. We read the previous review the day before we travelled but found every part of the cottage to be clean. We could not locate any smells and both the dishwasher and crockery were sparkling. The garden is stunning and wraps around the bungalow giving fantastic views. Our spaniel had a brilliant time exploring it. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise and comprised of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits. There was also a bottle of wine and cleaning supplies. We only encountered one problem during our stay which was to lose hot water on Sunday lunch time. I did worry about being able to get it fixed. Within an hour of contacting the emergency number we had a plumber on the doorstep step and our issue was resolved. We can't wait to come back again
When we entered the bungalow there was an unaired smell, like it had been stood empty for weeks. Now we have returned home we have noticed all of the unused clothes have the same smell! There were stains in mugs, some cutlery wasn't clean and a baking tray was in the oven with fat in it ! We therefore used the dishwasher for the cutlery and crockery but when cycle was complete they still had a smell so we washed by hand the rest of the week. I suggest the filter and door seals need a serious clean! The garden needs a serious prune as overgrown with weeds and has thorned brambles showing. This could be an excellent holiday let in if given some serious maintenance. While we haven't requested some compensation i feel it should be offered.

The cottage was lovely it had everything you could wish for . Its a pity it wasnt dog secure also the boiler was broken we couldnt shower we had to boil the kettle to wash the dishes we only stayed two days It was a shame it was a lovely cottage
Michael
We Had a lovely week at Sweden bridge cottage, the property is very comfortable, we enjoyed the lovely weather in the garden, and walks that start right outside the door. Would be back in the future. Michael O'Connor, family and friends

What a beautiful location for a holiday cottage, with lovely views from the lounge and the garden. Although the garden is not enclosed, our terrier still loved it, and we'd taken a longline lead so that he could still have a bit of freedom. It is only a short walk down to Ambleside although it is quite steep. The bungalow is immaculate, there is nothing negative to say about it thank you!
Lindsay
Such a beautiful property with an outstanding garden. We enjoyed our stay do much we booked again for next year. Couple of observations though, Right hand shower door off the runner, No cutlery basket in dishwasher, The lighter for the cooker not working.
Great place in a great location! A well kitted out house and kitchen, with more than enough space for 6 adults and a dog. We'll definitely look at staying here again if we're ever in the area.
Michael
A lovely property, very clean and well equipped with plenty of room for 6 adults. The large garden was well kept and looked very pleasant with many shrubs and trees. The view from the house and gardens towards the fells was spectacular. Shortly after we arrived young deer walked into the rear garden and had a potter around which was lovely to see. It didn't return for the rest of our stay but we're not taking it personally! You can walk up the hill from the cottage, through the gate and along the farm track to see stunning views within 5 minutes, ideal for an early morning walk if you're an early riser With the sunny weather too it was the perfect short break
Jeffrey
Sweden cottage was a very comfortable, clean and well equipped house. The views were stunning. The garden was lovely and we sat out having our morning coffee in the sunshine. A couple of small deer visited every day. Situated close to the town but in a very peaceful area up a rather steep hill, to get you fit by the end of the week. Walks up to the fells from the door meant we never needed to move the car. Perfect. We will definitely be back. E & J

Sweden Bridge Cottage was in a great location a short walk from Ambleside and with fantastic views out over the valley. The hike up to Low Pike from the cottage is amazing. It was spacious and the Christmas tree was a lovely touch. There were some aspects of the stay that weren't so positive. The bins were full when we arrived and there were dog hairs in one of the beds. A dirty pan had been left on the kitchen counter. When we arrived in the evening, the heating hadn't been put on so it was freezing cold and there wasn't anything in the fridge, like a pint of milk or some tea in the cupboard. In the living room, the sofas only had room for 5 rather than 6. These are some small, easily fixable criticisms that once addressed will make Sweden Bridge Cottage a great choice for a trip to the Lakes.
Angela
Exceeding our expectations. Quality fixtures fittings and furnishings. Amazing views from the lounge. Parking for 3 cars was a bonus. Thanks for the welcome pack, much appreciated
Pauline
Really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was all we could hope for and more. Ideal location for numerous walks and handy for walking into Town.

We are regular visitors to the lakes, my husband and I havent been for several years but our two sons who are completely hooked come up more frequently. We have always stayed around Keswick as the northern lakes have been our go to, home from home area. We were a little apprehensive maybe about staying in Ambleside, it always looked so busy when driving through to Keswick but we have fallen in love with the area and the bungalow from the moment we walked in it felt homely, warm, light, private, gorgeous views, minutes walk to the shops and a few minutes walk and you are in the hills. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. We only used the car a couple of times, there are many walks from Ambleside. We looked to book again but its already booked up well into next year. We were very lucky with the weather, blue skies, no wind and beautiful autumn colours. We did get wet one evening on a walk and found it tricky to dry all our coats and leggings, as the airer was broken
We absolutely loved the place, wonderful views from the garden, everything you could need was catered for, ideally placed for exploring, the only negative thing was that we had no hot water or heating on arrival but after a phone call an engineer soon came and fixed the problem.
Fabulous property, large and spacious plenty of storage room. Lovely views from front room we had amazing weather and enjoyed beautiful garden. Thank you lovely bottle wine on arrival. When standing by bench you can see Windemere Lake. We will definitely return to this property. I will mention that the walk from the the village is short but very steep fine for us as we researched before booking and are used to steep hills.
Rachel
We stayed for 3 nights with our 3 children and the property was of a good size. It was clean upon arrival although some extra cleaning of cobwebs around the windows both inside and out and wouldn't go amiss. The facilities were good with everything that we needed and a lovely powerful shower over the bath. We saw deer in the garden and had a an owl there also one night. The property could do with some extra garden maintenance of trimming the trees to expose further the beautiful views. The property was steep walking distance into town and back from town. A good location to explore the lake district and all it has to offer.
Kirsty
On the whole this was a lovely property, great location for walks into Ambleside & surrounding areas, it was very well equipped & the views from the lounge were idyllic at the end of a long day of walking & exploring. There were only 2 things, we wished it had stated more clearly in the property description on the website, the first was that the garden is NOT enclosed & drops down onto the road. It states that the property is pet friendly but when you arrive you are asked to keep your dog on a lead in the garden. This meant that we had to have the doors closed on warm days to prevent the dog from escaping. The second is that it states there are distant views of lake Windermere, however you had to stand on your tiptoes to see it over the hedge. Thankfully neither spoiled our stay.
Anthony
Lovely well equipped property, very comfortable beds, well maintained and exceptionally clean. Will definitely stay again.
