Stone Howe Reviews

Kathryn
This was our 4th stay at Stone Howe, it's a lovely, quiet place to stay, warm, comfortable and in a good place to access the town or walks in the area.
Debbie
A lovely place to stay. Our second visit . The Christmas decorations were a nice touch and made our NewYear break feel very festive. The house is lovely and warm although as the conservatory and front entrance area are not heated we were not able to use them as the weather was very chilly . New saucepans in the kitchen made preparing meals much easier . We love staying in Ambleside and will be back again !
Theres no welcome milk, so make sure to get some from the shop. Its up a steep hill from the town, itll keep you fit. Its all on one level which is welcome after coming up the hill. Theres two showers one bath for when you come off the hill. The porch stays cold, so bring coats boots into kitchen if they are wet. There is a boost button for the heating in the porch, if you are cold coming off hill. Only one blanket throw for the sofas. There is an airer but had to search for it. Has a movement sensor torch which was good enough for toilet in the night. Its in a quiet area, but close enough to town, with the hill in between.
The property is very well situated to walk into Ambleside where there are plenty of places to eat and an excellent bus service to surrouding places. Very comfortable bed and good water pressure in the shower although some may find the ensuite shower a little small. Not a problem for us though. Kitchen was well equipped Good to have somewhere to park car off road. Quiet surroundings.
Debbie
A lovely property the photos dont do it justice ! Perfect location we quickly got used to the uphill climb from the shops. A problem with the ceiling board falling down in the conservatory was quickly dealt with . This is the perfect part of the Lakes to explore from . We will be back !
Lovely location, very comfortable, spacious and with great views. Our second visit and have already rebooked.
Minor issues on arrival lights left on in conservatory, bowl in kitchen sink overflowing because it was very difficult to turn off the taps enough to stop them dripping, milk pan hadn't been washed properly fault of previous occupants. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The cottage is soacious and in a quiet area. Both bedrooms are fresh and modern, the kitchen and lounge not quite so but OK and we would consider going back to Stone Howe. It is a steep walk uphill from the town centre which some would struggle with.
Lovely, well stocked cottage. Ideal base for Lakeland walks.
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Fabulous location close to the town centre. The kitchen had everything we needed and the property was very clean and tidy. We struggled using the TV. Not sure if you need a better remote to switch between ordinary channels and the LG streaming services, or better instructions. Our only other issue was the showers. The one in the bath was difficult to use because of the position of the grab rail. The shower room in the bedroom is tiny. We were fine using the bath, which was lovely, but feel that other people should be aware before booking. Overall we had a lovely time and would stay there again.
Wonderful cottage, didn't want to come home. We would love to stay here again.
Property afforded comprehensive amenities and a comfortable environment. The visit took place when the weather changed and became cooler needing the central heating which was very efficient but simple operational instructions would have been helpful and the same applied for the smart tv.
Amazing cottage, beautifully presented, clean with everything you need. We had a wonderful time visiting the nearby lakes and towns everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Would recommend staying in Stone Howe if you're looking for somewhere peaceful with access to beautiful scenery and places to visit.

Better instructions to find the property. We ended up going up the struggle twice trying to find it.Maybe put on the directions, property is situated just before the sign for the struggle. Thanks.
There were a few items that need attention the most urgent in my opinion is the microwave oven, this item was left in a dirty state we had to clean it before we could use it, it has rusty areas inside the oven, the paint is flaking off also. As stated by previous guests there were 2 x dinner plates that were chipped. On the day of departing we removed the bed linen and left it in bathroom for washing, only to find that the duvet in double room had several stains on it, this needs cleaning or replacing. Apart from these things we had a great stay at this property, it is in a great location for exploring the lakes etc.
Beautiful cottage. Lovely location, clean, comfortable, warm and with great views. Everything you could ask for and will definitely return.
Christine
This is our 5th stay at this property 3 Stone Howe, 2 Little Stone Howe what a lovely place, Family helpful if you have problems and attend immediately if needed. Very good value for money and we will be back
William
A few small snags, the first two slots in the toaster didnt work, no battery in the living room clock, toilet seat was loose.
Audrey
Fantastic cottage spacious warm cosy and comfortable. Home from home.Beautiful views especially when it was snowing,as it did when we stayed. Paul one of the owners came and cleared the snow away he was very kind and helpful. We will definitely return next year for a holiday.
Absolutely loved the cottage, it was spacious and had everything you needed for a relaxing holiday. The super king bed was really comfortable. The cottage was very homely and we enjoyed chilling in the conservatory with the warmth from the winter sun. It is in an ideal quiet location with a 5 minute walk into the town and there ware plenty of walks on the doorstep. Would definitely recommend it. Janet and Steve
All you could ever need and more! . Excellent views over the fells and only a 5 minute stroll to the town centre. Even the lake is an easy walk. Highly recommended.
The cottage was homely, comfortable, and very clean. It also had great views, and of course walks from the door. All in all the nicest cottage we have stayed in for a while.
Dianne
Stone Howe provides a very comfortable base for a Lake District holiday. The garden, view and tranquility are a real bonus. Ten minute Access to the village centre via Peggy Hill is very good. After our fifth visit we noted some areas are looking a little tired and pared back since Covid restrictions. Guidance relating to the mysteries of the television relating to fluctuating signal strength would be very helpful! Cleanliness levels, however, are excellent and we would have no hesitation in recommending or returning to Stone Howe again.
We had a lovely stay, facilities were top quality, garden beutiful parking excellent . Leather suit comfy and lots of cushions, cooking facilities excellent! One small point, chairs in the conservatory not as photographs show,it was rattan woven seats with square cushions, probably OK for younger folk, but we were looking forward to the reclining chairs on the Sykes Cottages pictures, otherwise great ! Fred.K
Delighted with this lovely property, especially the garden & conservatory. All rooms spotlessly clean & beautifully decorated. The super king bed was a bonus & made our stay even more comfortable. Very quiet location despite being so convenient for the village.
We loved the cottage, it was airy and light, the furnishings were high quality and very comfortable, the position was perfect so quiet yet a short walk to town. So much to love! We had a lovely stay and we'd book again and recommend to friends. What we'd mention to friends though, is to take their own books, games, dvds, and milk as there weren't any there and we couldn't get Netflix! Perfect otherwise.
Excellent cottage. Very well equipped. Very comfortable. Convenient position in Ambleside.
Kathryn
We really like this holiday cottage, in fact I have already booked it for 2023. It's in such a convenient place and is very quiet in spite of being so close to town. Our only very minor quibbles would be that it would be nice to have a memory foam mattress topper on the bed. On the positive, the washing machine was, I think, a new one and washed and dried very effectively.
Kathleen
The house was fabulous but the interior was not like the pictures. The place would be more attractive with some colour and accessories. It is not very suitable for elderly people walking as the hill is very steep.
A really nice place and we had a fantastic stay. Everything was clean and well appointed. The conservatory area at the back was lovely. I think the only feedback I would give to the owner is that the place felt a little impersonal. We have stayed in a lot of holiday cottages and they nearly always have things like board games, DVDs, books etc. but Stone Howe had none of these. Maybe this is something to do with COVID I don't know but that is the only thing that seemed to be missing to us. Certainly not a huge problem though! Thank you for a great stay!
Cottage very good, only problem is the ensuite shower room is too small. This didn't spoil the holiday.
Graham
The property was everything we wanted for our stay in The Lake District. However, the outside seating area was in need of tidying up.
Dianne
The bungalow is very comfortable, excellent position and the garden and conservatory are a bonus. We have stayed here four times, so obviously we like Stone Howe very much . The decor in the lounge is, perhaps a little tired now. The bedrooms are lovely and we hope to return. Thank you
Christine
This is our 2nd stay at Stone Howe and we have stayed a Little Stone Howe twice too. Totally recommend the whole property. On arrival this time we had a problem and someone came out and sorted it and was very polite and chatty and most apologetic for coming whilst we were having our tea!!
Great location although there is a steep climb back up to the house from town so can be a challenge for elderly, disabled, unfit. Wellequipped and everything worked fine, though some changes from furnishings and fittings shown in photographs e.g. comfylooking conservatory furniture no longer there. Central heating was excellent really important for XmasNew Year holiday with elderly parents. Fridge is small and door doesn't always close well. Car parking was a challenge especially if there are guests in flat below and you need to fit 3 cars in driveway.
Kathryn
The owners were very responsive to problems and were very friendly and helpful.
Spacious and wellappointed accommodation close to the town centre but quiet and with some views. We found it very well equipped, a cut above the usual amount of space, well laid out and very comfortable. Having a full bathroom and an ensuite, plus the option of the second parking space, made it generous provision for four people. A most enjoyable stay.
Jonathan
Beautiful cottage with stunning views wherever you look. Immaculately clean throughout and everything youll need for an enjoyable time. I took my elderly parents as it was listed as only a short walk into Ambleside and thought that would be a perfect spot as they arent able to walk too far now, unfortunately what the listing doesnt say is that its situated quite a long way up a very steep road so that made access into the town impossible and parking in the town is very difficult to find a space. As a result we didnt see any of Ambleside really but it was a great location for exploring the rest of the area.
