Is Ramblers Rest Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
Ramblers Rest is not particularly suitable for children. The property is a one-bedroom apartment designed for two adults with no specific child facilities or equipment. The woodland setting and wildlife watching may interest older children. The on-site pool and leisure complex (closed November to March) could provide entertainment. The steep access road and outdoor steps present safety considerations for families with young children.
For Couples
Perfect for couples wanting a peaceful retreat. The one-bedroom apartment offers privacy in 18 acres of woodland with mountain views. The log burner effect fire creates atmosphere for cosy evenings. Patio doors from both bedroom and lounge open to a furnished patio for morning coffee. Walk directly from the door into Langdale Valley. Ambleside and Grasmere sit 4.4 miles away for romantic dinners and lakeside strolls.
Pet Friendly
Ramblers Rest does not accept pets. The property operates a strict no pets policy for all guests. The woodland setting and surrounding 18 acres would otherwise be ideal for dogs. Nearby Langdale Valley walks and trails from the door would suit active dogs perfectly. However, the owners do not permit any animals at this apartment. Pet owners should look for alternative accommodation in the area.

The best thing about this cottage was peace and quiet and that view! Had a horrendous head cold all week so couldn't do much walking as planned but the settee was a good place to be with choice of books, CDs and TV. Surrounded by wildlife.

Lovely views without the leaves on the trees, but this property isnt up to scratch to be marketed as a holiday let. No bedlinen on arrival, and someone elses dirty laundry in the bath. This was resolved quickly, but it was a poor start to the trip. The property itself is very dated, which is fine, but where there is excessive wear, such as very tired bathroom cabinets, mouldy bedroom curtains, etc, the owner should be investing in upgrades. The owner might also want to reduce and update all the instructions that were written around the property. Generally clean, but in need of a deep clean and clear out. Many handles and shelves were sticky and had crumbs on them. The place generally felt like a dumping ground of old furniture, electronics, and someone elses household knickknacks. The bedroom was so small and cluttered that it was overly claustrophobic, so we ended up sleeping on camping mats on the living room floor. The property served a purpose it was warm and dry, but we left early, as it wasnt exactly a joy to be in the place, andwe would have rather been at home.

This accommodation is satisfactory but needs some serious updating and maintenance. Outdoor steps to rear of property are a collection of old bits of wood slippery when wet . The bedroom heater is hanging off the wall, bits of wire supposed to hold it on, but it falls off. Patio door in bedroom leaks through vent to the inside making floor wet. Dining room chair being used as bedside cabinet . Bathroom window has old bit of something covering it that cant be taken off. Wires and old equipment with bits of paper stuck on things for instructions, this happens all through the property , Information from 2011 in the details about property. For walkers no boot rack . Shame because the location is beautiful and with some updating this could be a fantastic little gem of a place. The site it is on is great.

Was a great apartment nice clean and well maintained would have got top marks ... Was a great apartment nice clean and well maintained would have got top marks all round but the access road was very steep and only single lane it caused my wife to panic if we had known would not have booked the site but all other things as usual with Sykes were great

Our third visit to Ramblers Rest which has got to say something. Its in such a fabulous position, ideal for walks directly from the property. Just one slight negative, someone needs to have a word with the cleaners about really greasy oven trays and pans.
The apartment is in a beautiful location and is comfortable and wellequipped. We arrived to a spotless kitchen and bathroom and lovely fresh bedding and towels. However, I agree with previous guests who say that the apartment needs a declutter and a good deep clean. Overall a great place to stay and one we would probably book again
Arriving at the facility for key collection, the key was not there! It was late Saturday night an accident in M6 had delayed us three hours. There was no answer from the sykes emergency number. Left a message, no one bothered to respond all weekend. Or at all. Fortunately, we noticed an envelope containing keys addressed to the lady who was staying at the property later in the week and had to take those. Very poor customer service. We could have been left without accommodation all weekend
Appalling holiday. Will never use or recommend lakelovers or Sykes cottage holidays as they own lakelovers

Ramblers Rest is a lovely apartment with gorgeous views & a very friendly pair of resident ducks on the pond in the grounds. It was clean & comfortable with everything you need for a short stay. The bed was very comfortable, but the room is a little overcrowded with big wooden furniture making it difficult to move around in there. The shower curtain was missing on arrival but this was soon put right after a phone call to Lakelovers Sykes. We found the WiFi a bit hit & miss which does affect the television channels you can receive, but this wasnt a huge problem. There is limited mobile signal too. A comment for the owners would be to update the instruction sheets & bin all the old ones. It was a little confusing to say the least, which is a shame when a lot of effort has been put in to make it easy to work the various pieces of equipment in the apartment. A comment for Sykes would be to give a better idea of just how far the parking space is from the apartment. This may not be an issue for most people, but we are the wrong side of 60 & my husband has a health condition which meant I had several long trips to & from the car when we arrived & left. Overall it was a great place to stay for a few nights & we had a nice time at Ramblers Rest.

Perfect location for exploring central Lakes. Lots of beautiful walks from Neam Crags. Views from the accommodation are superb. The cottage was warm, comfortable and well equipped. However it is in need of a thorough ckean from top to bottom. Some of the fixtures and decoration were rather old, worn, grubby and need updating. There are too many gadgets and remotes which was confusing and wifi was difficult to connect to. Owners own clutter under bed, in cupboards and on top of wardrobe needs sorting out.

We've stayed here before. It's great. Perfect for our needs. Short drive to Ambleside and Grasmere for restaurants. Having access to the small poolsauna also good. Wifi is fine.
Lovely little place in an absolutely beautiful setting. Walked from the door everyday, never moved the car. Some of the information in the apartment could do with updating out of date information about WiFi access was a time waster. Would much rather have a good WiFi connection rather than all the other many devices and electronics that we didn't use. This would also perhaps free up some space in the bedroom that was a little cramped, and could do with a smaller bed frame to fit the limited space better. None of these things would stop me returning though. I would definitely stay here again. Loved it.
Wonderful views and walking ftom the door. Clean and comfortable. Very quiet and peaceful. All that we needed. Washing up liquid would have been helpful so we didn't need to use the dishwasher for just a few items eg after breakfast in the last morning. Also, there were only two dessert spoons . And it was very difficult to find on the first evening especially as it was dark! Otherwise a perfect few days. Thank you.
Gareth
Really enjoyed our stay at Rambles Rest, its a cosy bolt hole with spectacular views. Great walks from the property, no need to move the car except for shopping in Ambleside. Only down side was the pub in Skelworth Bridge. Weve already booked again!
The apartment is the end one of 6 in well established woods, but with open views mainly towards the right overlooking the mountains. Glorious location. Plenty of wild life to watch from window Ducks from a small pond at bottom of open grassy area. Blue tits great tits coal tits in abundance on small tree by window. Great Spotted Woodpecker, Song Thrush etc seen. A roe deer made a brief appearance before jumping over wall to the right. Also saw a buck deer in grounds further down. Lots of the owners' interesting books to read. Scrabble to play. TV in lounge and another one in the bedroom. Selection of Dvds of films etc if you have time. Kitchen area well supplied to meet any food requirements. We enjoyed revisiting an area of outstanding beauty and would hope to stay again at Ramblers Rest.
Lovely stay, property was clean well equipped and in a fantastic area. Would definitely book again.

Lakelovers are not accurately describing this property. Nor are they honest with their customers. Received an email 45 mins before check in advising that the dishwasher was broken and an engineer was coming out. On speaking with the owner, its been broken for months. I also enquired with LL when the pool house would reopen, to be told that Lakelovers have nothing to do with the pool. Again on speaking with the owner its been closed since before we booked but yet Lakelovers are quite happy to list this as a feature. The property is also not being cleaned properly. Shower curtain mouldy, kitchen cupboards, walls and skirting are filthy and the cleaners are just wiping round strong bleach which is overpowering when you enter the door. The location is good, the views are lovely, and if advertised accurately, youd know what to expect. All in all, the location is whats great about this property, the bonus of a washing machine and piping hot water. Shame on Lakelovers for not working for the owner effectively. Id stay at the property again if it was advertised elsewhere but wont book with LL again.
Bridget
Lovely setting and views. Kitchen very well equipped. Very confusing messages from owners. Listing said no Wifi, but found 3 different instructions and codes for Wifi, one of which worked. Far too many tv and music gadgets, 8 remote controls in lounge, 5 in bedroom. Unnecessary and confusing. Handwritten labels everywhere, some in odd places. Two Wifi routers sellotaped to side of cupboard, both of which had fallen off. So many gadgets and boxes that the cleaners could not dust them. Bedroom most difficult, very large wood furniture in small room made it difficult to move around, also a lot of owners property in bedroom, under bed, in drawers and on top of wardrobe.
Walden
Excellent cottage. Great for 2 people. Everything you could need. We had no problems with the wifi it was great 20Mbps. Walks from the door. Handy for Grasmere and Ambleside.
Deborah
Bedroom crowded and dangerous. No space to move around bedroom. Several bruises. Owners belongings too much. Bow saw next to bed. Apartment too cluttered
Katharine
It was really difficult to get the router for WiFi to work and with no mobile signal I relied on it. It was only because someone from Lakelovers came to sort out an unrelated problem that it worked. My holiday would have been very difficult without WiFi. I found the instructions confusing. At one point I lost some of the electricity which meant someone from Lakelovers coming out it took ages to get through on the phone which made me feel anxious and I was then put on hold again. This electricity problem may never have happened before but it would have been easy to just put a note in the information as the answer was simple and would have saved Lakelovers a call out! I found the property to be quite cluttered up with the owners belongings. The key to the front door needed a knack which I didnt possess so I had to use the patio door key which worked fine. On a more positive note the location is gorgeous with many walks from the door and close to the beautiful Loughrigg Tarn.
Absolutely brilliant! Probably the best place in Ambleside.
Maxine
Although the apartment was advertised with Wifi, we quickly learnt this was not the case. We contacted the office who in turn contacted the owner, who acknowledged that there was no Wifi. This was important to us as I have mobility problems and on rest days need access to the internet. The office said that if we paid foe BT wifi they would refund us.We had to pay for this in two packages, a 5 day package and a 1 day package. We have had the five days reimbursed, but are still waiting for 7.99 for the last day of the stay. The office staff were very helpful and did everything they could to make our stay work for us.
We loved the complete tranquility of the place and just like a home away from home for comfort.
Best things about the property The freedom and location of the apartment, together with the apartment having everything you need and more. we have booked again for xmas and we use Lakelovers always. We can visitwalk the area and enjoy all the surroundings. Rain doesn't hold us back lol
