Is The Lodge Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
The Lodge is not ideal for families with children. The property sleeps only two people in one double bedroom with no additional beds. The single-storey layout and small garden offer limited space for play. Ambleside does have parks and lakeside areas nearby, but the cottage itself suits adult guests better than families.
For Couples
The Lodge works well for couples wanting a Lake District base. The double bedroom provides privacy and the gas fire creates atmosphere on cold evenings. The private patio garden is a suntrap for morning coffee together. Ambleside offers restaurants and pubs within 0.1 miles. Walks start from the door, including the romantic route to Stock Ghyll Force waterfall.
Pet Friendly
The Lodge does not accept pets. The property operates a strict no pets policy for all bookings. Dogs and other animals are not permitted inside the cottage or in the garden. If you need pet-friendly accommodation in Ambleside, you will need to search for alternative properties in the Lake District that welcome animals.

The Lodge Reviews

Love this little cottage. Great location, and very comfortable. We have been before and will go again. We had to leave early on Tuesday. Ce la vie!!!
Same as usual! ! good clean bungalow, with great access to town and countryside. We will be back. Thank you , Bob and Wendy . Northampton.
The lodge was very clean and tidy it had everything you needed . Really close to fantastic walks and pubs and shops we really enjoyed our stay and hopefully return very soon.
Jeannie
This is our fifth time staying in Lodge cottage , we enjoy staying here it is handy to the town and quite a few walks from the door, heating great in it and well equipped, except we think it badly needs updating with a new sofa and chair plus l think the bed could do with a new mattress, we always enjoy coming here and look forward to coming back in the summer of 2026. Janet and Gordon.
Great location, close to all the bars, restaurants and shops. Plenty of local hikes straight from the front door, Bus stop at the end of the road if required. Everything we needed was in the accommodation. We travel in a van so was concerned when one of the reviews said the drive was small but the van fit on the drive with room to spare. Loved watching the birds feeding through the window. A couple of nice little outdoor areas to sit if its not raining. Could do with a bigger sofa to relax on after a long day of hiking. All in all a great little place to stay. Shaun.
Cosy, well appointed cottage close to local amenities. A two minute walk takes you straight onto a footpath between fields to the river Rothay. Love watching the birds at the feeder whilst having breakfast. We have stayed here many times and will definitely be back.
Robert
Thank you for another enjoyable week.
The Lodge was in an ideal location for all that we required. The only downside was the shower which was only coming out as a small trickle, not really suitable for rinsing our hair,
A lovely bijou cottage, needs a little updating and tender loving care, a delightful small outdoor area and very handy for the park, walks and centre of Ambleside. Pros Quiet and peaceful at night, bed comfy for us but perhaps a bit too soft for some. Proximity to walks and centre of Ambleside whilst still remaining quiet and private. Heating works well and heats up quickly. Offroad parking may struggle with a large car. Two cute outside sitting areas. Cons Kitchen and bathroom need a little updating. Bath was difficult for the plug to work for draining the water. The shower was poor with only a slight trickle. Not brilliant amenities in the kitchen as in cooking utensils, dishes etc, fine for a weekend but longer stays may struggle including the fridge which was a bit small with only a freezer drawer. Living room sofa has seen better days and would definitely not use the word plush as in description. Fireplace would not be described as charming, functional perhaps we didnt need to use it. It was a very old fashioned and well used appliance. The dining table could also do with a little updating as the scratches show on the shiny surface. Foisty mouldy smell, again its an older property, Im sure with a little updating this could be an absolute gem. We would definitely return for short stays despite the cons, as it was what we were looking for, and it was cute, great location, private, quiet yet crying out for someone to nurture it.
We had a lovely stay at The Lodge. Was a very convenient short walk into the town for shops, pubs etc. Comfortable bed Living room furniture not very comfortable and sofa a bit small for 2 people
Jeremy
A return visit, lovely accommodation and convenient but quiet location.

The driveway is overgrown so getting the gates open was difficult. Getting out of the car was difficult the bushes touched the car. The front step is loose. The gutters leak outside the bedroom. The bathroom basin is slow to drain away. The thermostat doesn't work we couldn't have the correct heat at times when we needed it. The containers haven't been touched since your last photographs. Very misrepresented. This was our dream holiday. Hence 2xweeks. We had a fantastic time. The Lake District is truly amazing. Despite these major faults. Basic amenities poor.
Very nice week in a good property, all you need , with parking. Thank you . Bob and Wendy .Northampton.
Jeannie
Another enjoyable holiday in your cottage, everything was there that we needed and near the shops and plenty of walks nearby lovely to watch the birds in the morning at the feeder, will be back as usual in July.
Stephen
Very clean and tidy comfortable and would return any time. Beautiful location and really close to shops as described.
Arthur
We have stayed in this cottage a few times but when we arrived this time the cottage had not been cleaned. This was no fault of the cleaner as she had not been notified by LakeLovers that this was a mid week change over. Once highlighted and the cleaner notified the cottage was cleaned immediately. Arthur

This is our third time staying at Lodge cottage, we are very happy with it, near to the town and very quiet, On our previous visit we had problems with the T V going off and on and no signal, when we were here last week, the owner Aruther called with us to put the bin out, and we said to him about this problem and he kindly went away and came back with a new T V and got a man to fit a new aerial and tune it in, and it is working prefect, our thanks to him for solving the problem
Fantastic spot on the edge of town, perfect for exploring the rest of the lake district, it desperately needs a new shower fitting, its seen better days, apart from that we loved it.
Michele
The Lodge is ideally situated close to the town, which was perfect for us as well as quiet even though the main road is close by. The parking is a great asset. Well equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine if needed too. An airer would have been helpful as although there is an outside line, the weather wasnt the best to try and dry items. There is a towel rail but runs off central heating so we didnt use it. It is a great place to stay in and well equipped for self catering. A few maintenancecleaning issues that would be of benefit and not meant as criticism in any way. Cobwebs, dustdirt around the radiatorstowel rail floor level and doors need wiping down neat handles . Cooker hood needs a clean too high for me to clean it all over. Lights in kitchen kept flickering. Plug sockets by bed do not work but not sealed off or any notification. TV reception not brilliant especially on really wet days. Towels left for us had stains on but we took our own so not a big issue. Truly loved the bird feeder! Wonderful to watch the busy birds going backwards and forwards to the nuts. They demolished a filled coconut shell within a day! The garden is delightful and peaceful. Seating areas were wonderfully placed and relaxing when weather allowed. A good break to recharge your batteries!

The cottage is in an ideal place and comes with a parking space which is a bonus. Walks from the door and bus stop just down from the end of the street. Internally the bed is comfortable although we found the drawers smelled buying some drawliners helped with this. The water is very hot and please be aware the fire in the living room is gas. In the listing it states electric in one area and gas in another. We didn't find the sofa or chair very comfortable but that may be a personal thing. Watching the birds feeding was lovely although it didn't take them long to empty the feeder.
We had a perfect stay. Great bike storage and bike trails accessible from end of the road. Well equipped and comfy. Couple of suggestions. Not complaints at all. Could do with a toilet brush and upgraded tv so you can cast tv channels from mobile devices.
Patricia
This was the 2nd time we have come to this property and we love it, its clean and comfortable and its position in relation the town is ideal and having parking is a real bonus. We enjoyed watching the birds at the feeder, the garden with the 2 seating areas is lovely . Our only suggestion would be a bit more cutlery and a cafetire , otherwise perfect.
Robert
As usual the property was exactly as it said on the tin. ..We really enjoyed our week even welcomed by the wood pigeons from home to wake us in the morning !. Only a couple of minor niggles a few more kitchen utensils would have been useful... small knives for cutting vegetables, a colander for washing fruit and perhaps some handwash as is usual in most Sykes cottages. We could have used a coffee percolator but perhaps that is pushing it a bit....Nevertheless, excellent all round.
Trevor

The only problem we had was we could not use the wi fi as the password did not work on three different devices and we did try everything capitals low case the only other thing the bath towels are to small as we had been before we took our own everything else was fine
The lodge was clean and comfortable, good heating and hot water. Very good location, only a few minutes walk into Ambleside. Only negative we found was that the oven was very noisy a previous guest also commented on this issue. Enjoyed watching the birds on the feeder.
Jeannie
We really enjoyed our stay and will be back again. Very central to the town and great for walks. We just have two issues with the cottage, the first week that we were there the three days that we had the heavy rain we had no T V. Signal ,spoke to the neighbours but they had no problem getting a signal, l think the problem is with the aerial which would need checked out. Also the cooker oven when it heats up the fan makes a very loud noise, which does not sound right and would need to be checked out also. A part from these two issue we were very happy with our stay. Very quiet and comfortable.
Clean, convenient and all that we needed for a wonderful holiday in Ambleside. The bird feeder kept us entertained, who needs television!? We'll certainly be returning.
Patricia
Everything was as described in the advert. The house was very clean and comfortable, just what we were looking for. The added bonus was the parking so near the centre of the village and the lovely courtyard garden complete with bird feeders . We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come again.
We really enjoyed our stay. 'The Lodge' is situated in a quiet culdesac very close to Ambleside. Turn left out of the gate and within 2 minutes you are in the centre. Turn right out of the gate and in 100 yards you are on a lovely quiet footpath running next to a stream and wonderful countryside views. At the end is a park which takes you into the town. The accommodation is really very good and the offroad car parking is so important in Ambleside. Everywhere was very clean and the layout was very practical with all mod. cons to hand. The small garden is a real suntrap and a lovely place to sit with the many birds that visit. It is the first time we have stayed here and hopefully not the last as we really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you.
