Lowfold Cottage Reviews

On the positive side The cottage is a nice building. Its in a really good location for walking in to Ambleside. The rear garden is enclosed and is safe for dogs to be let out without fear of them escaping. The underfloor heating kept the cottage warm and cosy. The shower was also powerful and very good. Things thst could be improved. booked for a pre christmas break, was a bit dissapointed tongind thr cottage hadnt been made festive looking, the soft furnishings were stained including some of the lamp shades, the main bedroom window was in serious need of maintainance and cleaning and window reveals had black mould growing on it which can be a health hazard. Only the hand gel dispenser in the bathroom contained hand gel. The log fire had no logs or kindling, Also on the one occasion the bath was used there must have been a leak in the waste pipe as water seeped through the utility room ceiling and we had to use the tatty remnants of an old mop to clean up the water We have stayed in a number of cottages in thr lakes and its thrblittle things that that enhance the experience such as a bottle of milk in the fridge some tea bags and a jar of coffee so guests cab make drink when they arrive
We have spent a lovely week at Lowfold Cottage this is the second visit here. The cottage is really conveniently located and is a cosy home. It gave us everything we needed and was very clean and well equipped. The shower is worth the stay alone so lovely and much needed after a day in the fells. Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely cottage.
Carole
Lowfold is a lovely cottage in a very handy location that is being let down by lack of attention to keeping window frames clean, carpets being cleaned etc. Also as others have mentioned artwork very poor and doesn't reflect the local area, and curtains and cushions should have been replaced.
Michael
Standard of equipment & furnishings good. We certainly appreciated the great shower after a hot day walking. The size of the garden was a welcome surprise, nice to sit out in the evening. Cleanliness not so good, for example we had to clean the dirty grill pans in the oven before use. We hoovered before we left and felt that we left it cleaner than we found it.
Rebecca
A really lovely holiday cottage in a fantastic spot. The owners have thought of everything to make sure that our holiday was as close to home as possible. They are in the process of updating the kitchen and have clearly made some lovely improvements to the bathroom and main bedroom recently. The living area is big enough for four adults to stay comfortably and the addition of the downstairs cloakroomutility meant that there was somewhere to store wet gearstuff and a second loo. Outside space a real suntrap.
Great location for access to Ambleside town centre and also walking to Ambleside Pier which is what we were looking for in a holiday home. Spacious cottage. Downstairs toilet a bonus. Well equipped kitchen. Comfy beds. Shower is great. Secure private courtyard garden to the rear. We had a lovely stay. Thank you for having us
Lovely cottage with a fantastic outdoor space. Had everything we needed, in a good location very close to local amenities. Accommodated 5 adults no problem, just watch the low ceilings upstairs!
Great character cottage
Caroline
Low Fold is a lovely cottage which is a short walk to shops, cafes, walks and to the lake. The cottage itself is quaint. The garden was lovely and secure for our dogs. It was also a sun trap. The kitchen was well equipped. The bed was a bit squeaky when you turn over but you get used to it. Will definitely be back as we have been coming to Ambleside for over 40 years and have stayed at many cottages. Thanks for letting us stay.
Amazing cottage, great location and has everything you need. Will definitely book again. Everything was clean only bad thing was I did have to hover when I arrived as there was black dog hairs everywhere.
We enjoyed our stay here ,the location is fantastic for town and countryside. The cottage is lovely and outside space very pleasant. As we visited over Christmas I would of expected some Christmas decorations, even a small Christmas tree would have been nice. The cottage itself was a little tired in general and some of the utensils and crockery needed washing prior to use as they were either dusty or had not been washed properly. The beds were comfortable but was no hair dryer.
Josephine
Lovely cosy cottage. Will defo be back . Thank you.
Lovely little cottage, perfectly formed, ideally located. Very clean, comfortable and well equipped. With THE MOST WONDERFUL SHOWER!!! One small thing, after a long journey, teacoffee on arrival would have been great there were teabags but no milk, coffee or sugar. Absolutely agree with idea to encourage use of local shops, but a small milk and just enough teacoffee to get you to next morning would have been nice, especially if one arrives late in day.
Carole
We love Lowfold cottage but some things could really do with updating. These are the cushions and curtains in living room and main bedroom. Also it's a shame that a lot of the artwork, upstairs, doesn't reflect the local area. We stayed in a cottage in settle and they had inexpensive cards by local artists framed. The place felt loved.
Nicola
Such a wonderful cozy cottage. We felt so homey right from the start. The age and look was just lovely for what we wanted and needed. The little courtyardgarden was a great touch for the dog. We will be booking here again hopefully.
Lovely location, great 17th Century cottage with comfortable atmosphere & period look. Everything you need was in the cottage and working living areas were clean. We did notice some high level cobwebs but it didn't detract from our stay.
Judith
The cottage is in a good location, handy for the centre of Ambleside and very close to Waterhead. The kitchen was well equipped and the shower was very good. We weren't able to use the patio much but it was pleasant to sit outside. The style is a bit tired and it was dusty with lots of cobwebs. We used to have a 17th century cottage ourselves and know they can be tricky to clean. Overall good but maybe a bit of attention needed.
Robert
The property and facilities are ample, but let down by the cleanliness. Towels and bedding okay, but cobwebs everywhere. Overall great.
Mildred
This is a beautiful little cottage in a perfect spot. 5 minute walk into town and just 5 minutes walk to the lake. Nice to see the owners have listened to other feedback and put in a downstairs toilet in and the upstairs bathroom is lovely with its update. What did let the property down was whoever they have cleaning for them, they are letting this lovely cottage down. When we arrived my husband found himself cleaning large amounts of dog mess. On the upper path way and also patio. I do agreed this was also for the owners of the dog to do but should also be checked on. Paying what we paid I dont expect to clean up after others. Also we found the property could benefit from a good dusting throughout and found plates that needed to be re washed. On an overall we loved every minute of our break and we would book again. This cottage has so much going for it.
Torbjorn
Lovely cottage Really cosy and a great base for our weekend in the Lakes Thoroughly enjoyed it
Stephen
We have stayed here quite a few times. It is always lovely and warm. It is in a great position with easy walking access to Ambleside. Some of the cooking utensils could do with updating now and the carpets could benefit from a clean. We did not have any issues with the shower leaking despite notices about this in the bathroom. I understand the bathroom is due for refurbishing,
Excellent property, great location with a lovely little garden secure garden which was ideal for the dog. Very well equipped property, would recommend and stay again in the future.
Super cottage. Incredibly well equipped with everything we needed. Beautifully cosy and warm. We thought it might be a bit of a squeeze for the five of us and our dog, but it felt just right! Superb location. The only thing missing was a view from a window, but you cant have everything and with only a 5 minute walk from the front door the views are everywhere! We particularly liked walking out of the front door to do the Loughrigg circular on a crisp, blue skied autumn day. We would highly recommend this property. Thank you to the owners and Sykes properties for great and easy communication via the app.
Madeline
The leaky shower was a bit of a worry. A second toilet would be fantastic could one fit in the utility room? No need for ancient freezer. Teens would have liked a bigger TV. We did have a good stay, thank you.
Delyth
We really enjoyed our stay at Lowfold cottage. There were only 2 of us, so the cottage felt very spacious. It was well equipped, comfortable and warm with plenty of hot water. The underfloor heating downstairs makes the stone flags very toasty. Its very well located just a short walk from the village, and similarly short walk to the lakeside pier. The patio garden with table and chairs was much appreciated when the sun came out, and there was even a view of some hills. We didnt bring our dog, but he would have loved it too!
The cottage was purfect! The 1st visit with our puppy! He was in the crate! Ideal location and within walking distance for the town and up to Jenkins Crag! On the cottage front it was clean and everything we needed for a week! Would definitely recommend and well stay again!
Carole
Lovely cottage in a very handy location. Just one thing was very annoying. We always recycle as much as we can at home, but there is no recycling collection at the cottage. The notes suggest taking it to Rothay Holme waste site. We walked over there only to be told they could not accept it. We had to put it in ordinary bin, as we were travelling home by train.
The cottage was comfortable, warm and nicely furnished. The location was great, a short walk from the town centre, in the heart of the lakes. As one couple and two single adults, we had a really lovely long weekend, with a number of home cooked meals together. The location was a bit of a surprise, much less garden and closer to the road than the photos might lead you to believe. Two of the bedrooms were very small for children rather than couples. The shower was excellent. The dining sitting room was very comfortable and well suited to comfortable time together. The only disappointment was the lack of basic supplies. We had to buy quite a few things washing up liquid, cooking oil, toilet paper, etc that I would have expected to find in a selfcatering cottage.
Jackie
Although the cottage was warm and cosy. It was not very clean. Cobwebs everywhere. Most of the mugs were old and dirty. The crockery, cutlery and glassware were dirty. We had to wash everything before using. The shower needs attention and updating. The final straw was seeing a later week in February available 200 less than we had paid.
Patricia
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Lowfold Cottage it was cosy, comfortable and warm. It had everything we needed in a holiday cottage. It was convenient for local transport, eating out and shopping.
Michael
Cottage was accurately described and more than met our expectations. Check in process simple and communications very clear
Low Fold Cottage is a gem of a Cottage. Its cosy and well equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday. We had a wonderful time and intend to return one day. Just beware of banging your head on some of the ancient beams.
