Is Heatherley Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
Brockhole Visitors Centre offers treetop treks, mini golf and archery just 2 miles away. Stock Ghyll Force waterfall makes an exciting short walk. Lake Windermere at Waterhead provides boat trips and watersports. The property has Smart TVs in bedrooms and family games. Four bathrooms mean less waiting around. Ambleside has shops and cafes within walking distance for treats and supplies.
For Couples
This property sleeps eight and is designed for groups rather than couples alone. The substantial size and four bedrooms make it better suited to families or multiple couples travelling together. A couple booking alone would have more space than needed. The woodburning stove creates atmosphere but the property lacks romantic features like a hot tub or secluded garden setting.
Pet Friendly
One well-behaved dog is welcome at Heatherley. The location is excellent for dog walking with Stock Ghyll Force and Waterhead lakeside parkland nearby. Fell walks start from Ambleside. A small courtyard provides outdoor space. The property has a woodburning stove for cosy evenings after muddy walks. Four bathrooms mean easy cleaning up after outdoor adventures with your dog.

Heatherley Reviews

The location is ideal for exploring everything Ambleside has to offer, with shops, restaurants, and walks all within easy reach. The cottage itself is excellentcomfortable, well maintained, and thoughtfully set up. Having a bathroom for each bedroom is a real bonus, especially for our large group. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need, although it could do with checking from time to time, especially the glasses and cups. The heating works brilliantly too, making the whole place feel warm and cosy. TVs in every room, along with a smart TV in the lounge, mean you can easily relax in the evenings with Netflix and similar. The only slight drawback is the parking arrangement, which uses permits for the Rydal Road Car Park rather than spaces directly outside. This needs to be changed on the website, as it is still stating the old arrangement. This can be a bit inconvenient if youre travelling with multiple cars. That said, its only about a fiveminute walk, so its a small tradeoff considering how good everything else is. Overall, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Heatherley Cottage for a stay in Ambleside. For our large group, it was perfect.

Heatherly is great. It's in a fantastic location for access to everything in Ambleside. The cottage itself is also pretty perfect. The bathroom for each bedroom is a big plus. The kitchen is well equipt. The washing machine and tumble dryer is also great for wet walks, as is the heating which makes the house very cosy. TVs in each room and a smart tv in the lounge allows access to Netflix etc. The only vaguely difficult aspect is the parking, which relies on two permits for the Rydal Rd car park, rather than on street outside the cottage. Which can be tricky if you've got a larger party with 3 cars and unfortunately there's no direct access from Millans Park to the car park. But it is only a 5 minute walk and the parking is a minor inconvenience against the property's plus points. You can also use a parking disc for short stays on Milllans Park. No hesitation in recommending Heatherley for a stay in Ambleside.
Great property but somewhat let down by the cleanerschangeover crew. On arrival we found a dirty dish and spoon in the dishwasher and also a walking pole in one of the bedrooms. Clearly rudimentary checks had not been done. Also ingrained dirt at the edge of lino in the top floor ensuite... time for a deep clean. A couple of the kitchen cabinet doors are loosemisaligned. All in all a good property but it does need a little care and attention so i would suggest the owners take some time to look over the property for themselves rather than relying on the management company to pick up on the smaller things.
We enjoyed our stay. Nice spacious cottage in a great location. Only negatives were some of the curtains coming off their tracks and the dryer timing not functioning properly.
We rate our holiday as excellent because Heatherley gave us what we needed in terms of accommodation that suited our separate groups, allowing us privacy within those groups yet enabling us to be together as a family. The building itself is well presented and attractively decorated but is very much let down by various things that cheapen it and spoil ones enjoyment of it. The things I list would not cost a lot of money to improve. Its as though whoever provides the actual daily running of the property has a lot lower standard of care than whoever developed Heatherley as a good quality holiday home. So, items that need serious attention totally overgrown front garden unwelcoming and unpleasant back yard because of weeds, complete lack of comfortable seating and a gate that needed a coat of paint at the very least some cheap curtain rails and fixings which looked close to collapse when we arrived and actually did collapse before we left. Some curtains had to be drawn even in daytime to ensure privacy from other buildings. Venetian blinds or even nets for quite little cost would improve that some door catches didnt work so doors wouldnt remain shut the equipment for WiFi, etc in the understairs cupboard was unsafe with trailing cable and equipment easily fell off its shelf only 2 door keys and no keysafe to leave a key when people needed separate access only 2 spare bin bags which were soon used for 8 people only one toilet roll in some bathrooms and no spares available. These last two may sound picky, but the lack of these items has the effect of cheapening the whole feel of the place and the care thats offered to holidaymakers. Wed like to stay at Heatherley again and, very hopefully, these issues would not still be present.

The cottage I appreciate is in a prime location for Ambleside town centre but is in need of decoration especially the entrance hallway stairs etc, new carpets especially downstairs and the stairs and landing. The whole accommodation is in need of a commercial clean especially downstairs it felt dirty which wasnt a pleasant experience. Drawers that are broken need fixing in the kitchen. Sadly for these reasons we wouldnt book again at this accommodation even though the location is so convenient.
Michael
This is our second year at Heatherley, we found the property not up to the standard as the first time. For a House that sleeps 8, the kitchen is under stocked, example if you all wanted a glass of wine, only 2 glasses also others glass not enough and cupsmugs. The property is in much need of some TLC inside and out, the court yard can do with a clean so some where to sit and enjoy

We had a lovely time staying in Heatherley. It's in a great location, clean and comfortable. The only thing worth noting is that maybe one of the walkin showers could have a hand rail and a shower mat so that it is disabled friendly. My mom is 82 and struggled to shower for fear of slipping. After saying that, I would easily recommend staying in this property and wouldn't hesitate at returning again.
Lots of positives and a couple of points for action. Great location Parking good Roomy, comfy bedrooms, plenty bathrooms and good showers Good cooker Good central heating system Points for action Some lamps dont work Some little extras like Fairy liquid would have been appreciated Very disappointed that there were no fire supplies for the first night at least, especially as the photo has a chimney breast stacked with logs myth

We arrived home yesterday after our stay at Heatherly we had a fabulous time , its was spotlessly clean , well equipped and very comfortable Such a great spot to stay too as its right in the centre of Ambleside walking distance from most shops , restaurants and pubs We will definitely stay again Thankyou
Great location, kitchen well equipped. Needs some tlc, curtains standard lamp not working, paintwork. To remote missing in twin room.

After reading reviews of this property, after booking, I was worried about what the property would be like. We were pleasantly surprised. Although the property could do with a freshen up it was very clean and comfortable. All bathrooms were spotless. Also, very warm and we had everything we needed, including iron, ironing board, washer and dryer. Parking permits were at the property when we arrived. One for the street and one for a car park nearby. We used Rydal car park a short walk away. Only issue we had was there was no lightbulb in standing lamp in living room. A really enjoyable stay. Picking up the keys was easy and went without any issue.
Very comfortable accommodation , really really clean and well maintained , spotless on arrival full credit to the cleaners ! Plenty of space for all . Great location , very central in Ambleside ,1 minute walk to all the shops , pubs and restaurants . Parking permits included pick the right one for outside the property ! Would stay again in this property . Great stay !
The house was perfect for 4 ladies of a certain age who like their own bedroom and bathroom. Following other reviews I did enquire about hand soap in bathrooms and kitchen and despite being reassured there would be some there wasn't. The microwave still needs repairing. Other than that was perfect, comfy beds, loads of space, location right round the corner from heart of Ambleside and we found parking easy with permit. We would definitely book it again.
When we arrived at the property the curtains in one of the twin rooms were on the bed. This must have already been reported as maintenance had turned up to fix them. However he was unable to do this and said he would return in Tuesday he never did. The floor on the kitchen was dirty by the step leading down into the kitchen hadnt been brushed or washed properly. The living room hadnt been hoovered properly I found toe nails on the floor. The parking permit had expired which I had reported. This was such an inconvenience as we had to continuously move the car. We had left the car parked outside the property overnight and received a parking ticket which we paid 25. I raised it with yourselves had made 3 phone calls also sent a copy of the ticket to yourselves. I am still waiting for a refund nearly 4 weeks on. I was told you are trying to get hold of the owner and would forward the ticket which is absolutely no use to me, my contract is with yourselves not the owner. I would be grateful if you could please forward the refund.
Perfect location but serious maintenance, cleanliness and decoration issues need to be addressed. Parking permit was out of date and we were subsequently fined!
Great location. It is an overall a comfortable property and the beds are very comfortable. The bathrooms are all in good shape & some nice design features. The halls stairs landing & doors need renovation, rather tatty No welcome pack and surprisingly no hand soap in the kitchen or bathrooms on arrival which isnt acceptable. You are overlooked and so privacy blinds would help a lot The garden needed weeding & better garden furniture would be good Microwave needs updating
Its a great cottage, ideal for multiple families or generations. A second key would have been handy and the coat hooks in the recess by the front door are far too high for most people to reach.
Cottage was a great location and good space. A little shabby in places. Worst was a drain smell, especially in master bedroom. Very disappointing response from Sykes Cottages in response. Previously booked through them and customer service waa fantastic. I can only imagine they've been bought out by Lake Lovers. I won't use them again. Communication terrible.
Michael
Great house with everything you needed for a lovely stay, also in a very good location for exploring the Lakes. Will be looking to book for next year.
Absolutely gorgeous cottage, very spacious and perfect for my weekend with the girls. Perfect location for everything in Ambleside. Would 100 return xx
Deborah
Fantastic stay with great facilities throughout. Excellent location.
Beverley
We all absolutely loved the cottage and we would
Lovely place and lucky to have found something so close to the centre of Ambleside. Would definitely try and book again in the future. A couple of little pointers on house rules ie bin days and other general expectations would be good but not essential.
Beverly
We all absolutely loved the cottage and we would
Fantastic property with all we needed to have a superb stay. Many thanks.
As per previous reviews the property is missing an information pack, but we found the WiFi code and bin etc. Property was perfect for us, central, lots of space, good bathrooms, smart TVs throughout, well equipped kitchen, effective heating and we parked outside the front door. We intend to return.
The property was lovely we all loved the house and will definitely be coming back at some time in the future . The parking was great and the house had everything we needed. Was so close to to all the shops and pubs and restaurants. Its in a lovely location and didnt have to walk too far to find some lovely walks . I could happily live in this house
Andrew
I have stayed in many of your properties and this one felt very much below par,. .. There was no property info, how to use or operate information, no emergency help numbers, no info if things got broken or damaged etc. The kitchen utensils were not complete, saucepans had no small or medium. Fridge door doesn't close properly at times. The main big bin outside was full to the top on our arrival and we couldn't establish when due to be collected, when we added our first bag the birds came and broke into it. The visitor book Feb also noted our comments.... No changes then... Overall whilst location is good the property experience we felt is below our usual experience. Sorry for lengthy feedback... But trust this will enable you to improve our expectations and experience next time.... Thank you...
Lovely house, fabulous location! Very quiet! Comfortable home for all the family. Family games provided. TV remote didnt work, no DVD player, thankfully our son had brought his Xbox so used that for entertainment. Garden could be looked after better. Bins were full on arrival and no information regarding bins recycling. Hand soap in the master ensuite but none in the other 3 bathrooms so had to purchase it. The unexpected good weather made the holiday.
Yvonne
Love this place for its location, right in the heart of Ambleside, and it has plenty of room. Beds were comfortable and bathroom facilities were good and clean. Kitchen was functional. Down sides were the dirty carpets on the stairs, a bit of a musty whiff when we first entered, woodlice everywhere and the need for plumper pillows. Getting the keys to the cottage was a little challenging and shame there is only a parking permit allowed for one car directly outside the property when the house is big enough for 2 families.
House in a great location and finished to a very high standard. Facilities excellent which added to our stay. Appreciated the parking permits also. The only issue we had was that there was no house information in the folder provided. We had no access to wifi for the week either. I emailed with regard to this but got no reply. Overall an excellent house.
Denise
This home went beyond my expectations. I base it on would I live here yes I would 100 I expected it to be top drawer but it went further than that. Every bedroom was very well appointed with comfortable beds and bedding & towels, plenty of storage space too. Two rooms have gorgeous ensuite while the two twin rooms are a few steps away from their own personal bathrooms. Again, very well appointed. Downstairs didnt disappoint with plenty of comfy sofas and chairs plus a large dining table that easily can fit up to 8 people. The kitchen was well stocked for what we needed plus a little court yard which was a fab place for out little dog to have a quick run around. Heathley house is also right in the centre of Ambleside with an abundant of cafes, bars & restaurants along with lots of boutique shops. The use of permits for our cars made it perfect for us. I would highly recommend a stay here.
Michael
Really loved the house, very spacious and well maintained. The cental location was ideal and parking was very straight forward. The only minor issue we had was that there was no recycling boxbag at the property and the information folder did not have any instructions about what to do with the rubbishrecycling. The information folder also didn't include the WiFi code. I guess it may have been removed or misplaced at some point.

Stayed at heatherley cottage for a birthday break with family and friends there ... Stayed at heatherley cottage for a birthday break with family and friends there where 5 adults also my small dog The cottage itself is in a absolutely ideal location perfect for Ambleside town centre yet in a quiet location The cottage itself is very large definitely big enough for 67 adults however there being 4 bedrooms 4 bathrooms I did think there might be a toilet on the ground floor but there was not had to go up a flight of stairs to the toilet I had elderly relatives so they did find this a bit much so keep that in mind The outside yard could do with a working light and also some decent seats to sit on as much as the slate benches out there are nice they are not practical at all or comfortable The cottage itself needs a good clean carpets sofas all had stains nothing too bad but even so they could benefit from a clean The cottage itself was over looked by neighbours who decided to stand at there windows looking in to the property which really didnt bother us but some might find it a issue Would I book the cottage again yes
Hello! The house was clean, tidy, and very well equipped. We really enjoyed our stay! A couple of things that did take away slightly from the experience was the lack of firewood, which was a bit of anticlimax on arrival on the Friday evening. Hand washsoap in the bathrooms would also have been helpful. Otherwise, it was a great stay and very well situated in the town. Thanks!
Joanne
Our second visit to Heatherley, and once again didnt disappoint. It is a great place for our family of 6, plus dog. Fabulous location in the centre of town. We did notice a smell of drains in the lower ensuite double bedroom this time, which was quite strong at times so we had to keep the window open for most of our stay. We also noticed it wasnt as clean as it was previously. There were hairs on the bedding and the floors in the bathrooms werent clean. The house however is well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. We did have to buy a frying pan as the ones in the house were well used and everything stuck burnt to the pans, so these could do with replacing.. It would also be useful for another set of keys, as only one set between 8 people and no key safe proved tricky at times. Having said all this, its a great house and good value for money. We would definitely stay again.
Elaine
Very comfortable house. Good showers. Well appointed kitchen. Lovely beds. Great location.
We enjoyed our stay in Ambleside and the property location is ideal and has excellent facilities. It is the second time we have stayed at Heatherly. The first time we had to clean the bathrooms as they were not clean and did not feed this back thinking it was a one off. However on our last visit there was the same issue. Toilet brush with excrement all over it, the rim of two toilets had dried faeces on. The headboards in the 1st floor twin room were dusty. The lounge carpet had not been hoovered under the chairs. Also the towel rail on the fist floor bathroom was not working. The bath plug on the 2nd floor did not seal.
Second time in this property and we love it. One issue was the plug in the first bathroom seal is broken so couldnt have a bath in there! Not really a problem as lots of bathrooms to choose. Would also benefit from a broom for sweeping the floor in the kitchen. But we love the space and location.
