Gillybeck Reviews

Excellent quality accommodation. Parking availability is an isdue if mote than one car. New carpets mean wardrobe doors difgicult to open.
Callum
Comfortable apartment conveniently located only a few minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside. The only minus point I would mention is that if you have a larger vehicle, accessing the property as with a lot of places in the Lakes can be a challenge with sharp blind bends and single track roads. The apartment was a wonderful base from which to explore the local area. Could do with a bit more info on where to find the bins for the apartments though. Searched around the complex but could not find them. Overall excellent stay.
Trevor
In a great spot the property was in good order throughout and the beds were really comfy.
Ian Peter
The apartment is in a peaceful and quiet part of Ambleside with the many various amenities the town has to offer a short walk away two good size showerbathrooms which is good for a two bedroomed apartment . .all rooms are a good size and a nice sitting out area at the back of the property
This was our third consecutive stay at Gilly beck, as it is ideal for our needs. Since last year both bathrooms and the kitchen have been refurbished. In the past however the owner had set times when the heating came on if the thermostat allowed it. On this stay it was not possible to have the heating on,and there was no information on how we could turn it on. It may have been July but the living room was cold all of the time we were there, making it somewhat unpleasent.
Lovely stay, very clean and comfy property with everything you need for a break. My only advice on improvement would be outside area at the rear of the property.getting rid of old mats, brush. Fixing outside light and deweeding outside patio .put some pots with plants in to liven up the area...maybe comfier garden furniture set.
Valerie
The property was both clean and well equipped with large bedrooms and living space. The loungediner did however lack natural light for much of the day requiring a light to be on. Bathrooms clean but small and dated. The major drawback for me was the noise from the floor above, every step and movement was clearly heard with the loud creaking through the ceilings at all hours. For this reason I could not consider staying here again.
Our stay at the Cottage was truly beautiful. Nestled in a picturesque setting, the cottage offered stunning views and a warm, welcoming ambiance. The thoughtful details and cozy comforts made it a perfect retreat, leaving us relaxed and inspired by the natural beauty all around.

The Falls is a great location for everything in Ambleside and no need to use the car for many walks in the area. Gillybeck was clean, well equipped and a lovely place to stay. Very pleased to have chosen this apartment and would recommend to anyone thinking of staying here for a relaxing break. The car park space is a few yards from the front door a godsend in Ambleside where parking in the town can be tricky!!
Well equipped kitchen. The overhead shower was great! Good location....be prepared....it is up a hill. Once we parked at the accommodation we used local transport busferry to get around...or walked locally. We enjoyed our stay...thank you.

The cottage was well situated for us all very quiet area but not to far to the hub of Ambleside . ...very clean and well equipped nice to have two bathrooms both with shower although the fan in the ensuite wasn't working which did produce a very steamed up bathroom overall though a very good base to spend time in Ambleside
Pauline
The fact its hilly should be mentioned in your description, people with mobility issues may struggle. The shower in the ensuite needs replacing. The other shower is fantastic. First property weve stayed in without a basic welcome pack. For 210 per night, a bottle of water, tea, milk etc should be affordable to leave for your guests. It is a lovely, clean property, in a good location. The negatives wouldnt put us off rebooking.

Very good accomodation, with own parking space. Well positoned for access to Ambleside shops etc. We used the excellent bus service from Bowness through to Grasmere. On the slightly negative side, there is an appartment directly above number 12, and the floor boarding there is very creeky, when people are in.
Sandra
We had a fabulous few days staying here. Such a comfy, cozy and clean place in a beautiful location. Highly recommended!
Joanna
We found apartment spacious but very dark with little natural light. Accommodation was quite well equipped but could have been better, no large pan had to use 2 small pans to make enough pasta for 4 people, some areas were a a bit tired and in need of an update kitchen and bathrooms in particular antique shower in ensuite bathroom , overall a great location and base to explore from if a bit basic.

Nice accommodation with very good room layout. Cleanliness was pretty good but not exceptional which is slightly baffling when checkout time has been shortened and check in time extended to provide more time for a deep clean to be carried out during these unsettling times of the Covid epidemic. Little things such as light bulbs not working and a lack of matching cutlerycrockery is frustrating when you are paying in excess of 800 per week for the accommodation. The ensuite shower was poor in terms of water flow but the shower in the second bathroom was ok. If you are a light sleeper you would struggle to sleep in the twin bedded room because of light pollution from the outside security lighting. This could be easily sorted with black out curtains. In summary little things take the gloss of this accommodation and these could be easily corrected. I would not rule out staying at Gillybeck again but I think it is overpriced, with a little bit more attention to detail it could be improved noticeably
