Chapel Hill Cottage Reviews

Louise
We had a fabulous week over New Year at Chapel Hill Cottage, everything was perfect and it felt like home from home. We havent had the best of times recently with various upsetschallenges but we were able to have lovely precious family time in this cozy cottage. Thank you
Angela
We love Chapel hill cottage and come every year. Its conveniently located, a warm And welcoming cottage that is very well equipped lots of walks in the area.
Lovely, well furnished cottage in a good location. Very comfortable stay. Highly recommended.
Lovely cottage in a great location. Very clean, well equipped and comfortable. Beds were super comfy
Adrian
Beautiful cottage, spacious and comfortable. Only two drawbacks, very low entrance door hit my head four times and VERY steep hill to walk up to the cottage from town.
Would have been good to have had a coffee machine. Also would have appreciated a welcome pack with the basics such as milk. Very disappointed with arrival where we came down the steps to see large amount of bottlesrubbish outside the neighbouring property which stayed like that all week which attracted flies so had to keep door & window closed. The yard really needs some TLC to make it a nice place to sit but as a minimum should have been brushed.
This is probably the 1011th time we have stayed at Chapel Hill and we are booked again for November. The location is perfect and the house has everything you could possibly need, very wellequipped kitchen for those who enjoy cooking whilst away, however, the grill and oven do need some getting used to! Could do with an upgrade, as could the tv whilst it does have apps and you can watch most things, it is very out of date and the picture could be HD. HD tvs cost very little these days... The only other gripes we ever have are the parking is a squeeze every time can't be helped and the students above. They are typical students, playing music and having parties and whilst it wasn't too bad, I suspect it is not for everyone having them on top of you. They are the only couple of things that sometimes take the edge off an otherwise perfect stay. The beds and showers are amazing and the space is great, a lovely little cottage in the heart of Ambleside.

Myself and my family have just returned from a lovely week in The Lakes. Chapel Hill cottage is perfect for being central to all the shops, pubs and restaurants. There are 2 pubs less than 3 minutes from the cottage The Unicorn which serves food and dogs are very welcome. Then there is The Golden Rule which is also dog friendly. The cottage is on a steep hill ,it does have parking for a small car, having said that there is parking along side the cottage and at the top of the hill there are a few spaces. Its worth pointing out there are steps down to the cottage. The cottage has very comfortable furniture in the lounge, it is decorated well throughout. The kitchen was well equipped although no wall units for storage. Its a brilliant base to explore from. If you go to the information officepost office you can purchase a pack of Walks for you to do to get the best look at the area, catering for all abilities and ages. I would highly recommend this property.
Louise
Very homely and cosy, had everything you might need and fab location.
Great cottage in great location. Parking tight we had two cars but always managed to get a space near to the cottage. Beds are dead comfy and showers good. Kitchen very well equipped could have done with more roasting tins but we were there for Xmas so used more than usualwe took throw away tins so all good. Xmas decs were lovely. Took our own dvd player but smart tv was perfect and good size for all other watching. Only minor moanscould have done with 2 house keys 1 per couple and the heating system was very noisy, esp early morning. Loved our Xmas break in the beautiful lakes, even they dull dreary weather didnt put a downer on our stay.
Lovely cottage in a great location for all the amenities in Ambleside. We had 3 cars in our party and parking wasnt a problem.
This is our 7th8th time staying at Chapel Hill as it has everything we want and is in a perfect location. Still has the comfiest beds around! There have been other reviews which have mentioned the students, we did not hear them at all apart from coming and going, no bother. The cottage is wellequipped and has most things needed beware the cooker and grill take a while to warm up but I think that is power in The Lakes in general! No gripes at all and have booked again for next year. If anything, it could probably do with a touch up and slight upgrade of TV equipment and the bin lid in the kitchen has been broken or missing since we started staying there over 8 years ago! But I a being pedantic. Can't wait to come back.
We have stayed at this property many times previously and have already booked again for March next year. We always enjoy staying here but can we suggest that the Chimney is swept ASAP as there is a very strong acrid overpowering smell emitting from it? PS We did not use the stove during our visit this time. A new gas boiler has recently been installed in the property which is a welcome improvement. One thing we would recommend is updating the lounge TV to a newer model with a High Definition picture as this would be a welcome improvement.

We've stayed at this cottage several times over the last few years and were starting to feel that it was getting rather tired. The owners have clearly undertaken a lot of improvements since last year, including a new thermostat, and new domestic appliances, as well as repainting. The cottage looks and feels much better for it. Now, if they could persuade the students next door to be quiet between 1 and 6 am ....!
This is the 7th or 8th time we have stayed at the cottage and are booked again in April. We love everything about it and it is home from home. Sooo comfy and has everything we need for the perfect week. We miss the beds so much when we leave! Only thing we would change is the hillparking, but we know there is nothing that can we done about that. Can't wait to be back.
Melanie
Lovely cottage in a great location. Everything supplied for a self catering base. Our only problem is the parking spot at the property. Being parked on gravel downward we were unable to get our car off as the wheels were spinning on the gravel. Think this as happened to previous guests as a plank of wood is available on the patio to help to get off the spot. Not ideal, should really be tarmac.
We love staying in this cottage and have done so twice now. The only improvement we would suggest is to put up curtains in the bedrooms as the blinds are not sufficient to keep out the light resulting in us waking up earlier than we would like.
Catherine
Great stay again at chapel hill. All good!! Could be a bit of a climb for some people. Also u need o have small car for the parking space. We used car park at bottom. Rydal.
Chapel Hill is a great place for us as a family we return every year we have also stayed with friends as having two bathrooms is a must. Its also close to our favourite pub The Golden Rule as well as Ambleside centre with all the lovely shops, cafes and restaurants. The cottage is cosy as well as spacious with everything you need for a break in the Lakes we will be booking again next year for sure.
Richard
Nice cottage, great location. Parking could be tricky but we managed to find parking in small car park outside cottage. Lots of great walks directly from cottage. Not cleaned very well. Lots of dog hair and dust remaining. Poorly equipped with hand soap, cleaning products, sponges, bleach, clothes etc
Very nice cottage, well furnished and clean. There should be some warning on the listing about accessibility. My partner is disabled and really struggled with access and the internal stairs. Had we known this we wouldn't have booked the property. Parking is also an issue.
Richard
We have stayed at Chapel Hill 3 times before. The cottage kept us warm and cosy during a very cold but very sunny week, and there was ample room for 4 adults and our outdoor gear. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. However, the cottage was less clean than expected when we arrived dusty surfaces, hairs on the floors of both showers, and more hairs and dirt under the kitchen table. We cleaned this up ourselves and reported it to Heart of the Lakes, who offered to send out a cleaner which we no longer needed. At the end of the week, the microwave stopped working and the kettle socket began to work erratically both these faults we reported when we handed back the key. Hopefully these problems have been fixed. The cottage seems to be generally well maintained and cared for, so I hope that the problems that we experienced are just a blip. We would certainly stay there again.
Robert
Thank you very much we had a lovely stay in Ambleside at Christmas. The property was warm, spacious and very comfortable for our family of four and our dog. I was really impressed with the kitchen, which was really well furnished with all the pots, pans, ovenware and utensils that you might need to cook up a Christmas dinner. The location is perfect, close to the heart of Ambleside, and easy to walk straight out into the hills. We had a really special Christmas in Ambleside and would love to return in better weather!
We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful comfortable cottage. It was really well equipped and I have never slept in a more comfortable bed. There was a little noise from the students next store when they were outside but never too late at night and they were very polite. Overall we loved the cottage and we will definitely book again.
Angela
This is the 4th time we have stayed here and have booked again for next year. We love your house. Its warm, comfortable and like a home from home.
Lovely comfortable and well equipped cottage in an ideal location.
Sharon
The washerdryer didnt seem to dry the clothes very well at all, luckily the weather was good enough to put the washing outside to dry. Other than that all was good within the cottage well be back
This is a lovely property, it has everything that you would need and in a great location for the centre of Ambleside. Unfortunately, the neighbours,as other have described, are loud. On our first night they were partying until 4am! I do not feel that as a result that the property can be described as quiet. It is such a shame because it really detracts from such a lovely property.
Richard
Our 2nd visit to this comfortable, wellsituated cottage. There was ample room for 4 adults, though the good weather didn't test its ability to cope with lots of wet gear! Parking for 2 cars was fine but including a picture of it on the website would be helpful for people with bigger cars. The only issue was that the students next door were talking quite loudly on our patio at 2am one night a real disturbance for those in the ensuite room. The students were otherwise well behaved, but guests to this cottage certainly cannot guarantee peace and quiet anymore.
The cottage was beautiful, some of my family members had stayed in it prior to it being updated and I must say this is a great improvement. The only negative comment I have is being unable to change the heating settings to times that suited us, we were quite often cold if we wanted to stay up late and couldn't get the heating to come back on, other than that we had a wonderful stay and would definitely book this cottage again. Thank you.
Nothing about this property disappointed. The location is ideal, close to town and on the doorstep to incredible walking. The property itself is furnished to a very high standard and felt like a home from home. Having read previous customer feedback we were a little concerned about noise from connecting property and the parking, we chose this property because we like to park close by. We didn't hear anything at all from the connecting property and parked our T5 camper on the drive with no problems at all. Incredible 5 property. Would we stay here again, absolutely. Thankyou Heart of the Lakes, yet again you never disappoint.
We have booked holiday cottages in the Lake District with Heart of The Lakes for many years and this was the fourth time we have stayed in Chapel Hill cottage. In the past we have always been very pleased with all the properties we have stayed in, standard of cleanliness was always excellent, facilities were good and information provided was accurate. On our last visit the general standard of cleanliness wasnt good, there were problems with the central heating and the lock on the main entrance to the property wasnt working. When we have visited this property in December in the past there were always Christmas decorations, although this is not a necessity it was disappointing that there werent any this time.
This was our fourth stay at Chapel Hill Cottage and we will be booking again. It is perfect for us and our dog, central location, lovely and clean and the beds are to die for! It has absolutely everything you could wish for so warm and cosy.
Dorothy
A comfortable property, clean and warm. Only downside was the parking and the steps down to the door.
