Birchcroft Reviews

A lovely cosy little cottage in the centre of Ambleside, great base for walking. Lovely and clean inside and full of character. Despite the central location very quiet. Wonderful walks around the area and some spectacular views.

Clean, warm cosy accommodation. Central to all amenities. Dog friendly.

Had a fantastic time. Very cosy and well equipped. Great location to explore Ambleside and long term car park not far away when needed. Could park outside when unloadingloading the car on arrivaldeparture. Upset to find Lucy's on a plate had closed down since our last visit but still plenty of choice. Went to Sheila's cottage and was very impressed. Will definitely look at this cottage again on our next trip. Wifi was very good Had a teen with us and found showers probably the best of all the cottages we have stayed out. Beds very soft Bit too soft for us but that just personal preference but comfy enough. All rooms a good size and plenty of storage. We stayed for three nights but would be very happy to stay longer as it had everything you need to tackle the lakes and come back to relax. We have stayed in dozens of cottages around Ambleside and found it was a pleasure to stay there and would highly recommend it.
We have stayed at this cottage quite a few times now this year we found a couple of issues which I feel should be brought to your attention. Firstly TV remotes two of them lacked batteries which we didnt find out obviously until we needed to use the TVs so we swap them about so we got remotes where we needed them. Secondly the thermostat on the radiator in the main bedroom is adrift and was left on the window ledge thirdly the TV is developing a problem although it works okay if you look at it carefully youll see there are two pixel lines that are missing about a third of the way down the screen Didnt impair us watching it however it is an indication of the TV is beginning to fail The first kitchen cupboard on the left as you go in the top hinge is becoming a drift. These are only small items and wouldnt detract from us renting the property again as we like it central location.
Great place in a perfect location. We would definitely stay at Birchcroft again

Very comfortable, nicely furnished and decorated. Facilities and equipment were wonderful the kitchen was amazing and the place was warm. The beds and bedding were also brilliant, not had such a nice sleep in ages. The location of the cottage was good as well being just round the the corner from all the the shops, pubs etc, and also a short walk to the park for walking our dogs. they got alot of fuss and biscuits from the people in Ambleside. NB just one thing to mention was that there were no marked bins to put recycling stuff in. We did ask neighbours but they didn't seem to know much about them. So we bagged every thing up and put against 2 metal bins that were near the steps. That alone everything was excellent.
Lovely cottage. Great location as we wanted to eat out every night. Literally couple of mins walk to everywhere. So much choice of food locally. After a long days hike it was great to be close to it all. Only downside is a bit noise late at night and early morning. But thats part of the town life. Embrace it. Everything and more in the cottage and very clean. Will definitely look to book again if available. Was anxious about parking setup. But it worked great. The permit was also a great bonus if visiting other places by road. Would have stayed longer if cottage was available but unfortunately it was booked the following week. Amazingly beautiful place to visit. 56 and my first time in the lakes. Not my last. Thank you.
Patricia
We all enjoyed the cottage. The location was great right in the middle of Ambleside. It was very well equipped with everything we needed. The cottage was very clean and comfortable.
Jackie
Birchcroft cottage was very comfortable and ideally located in Ambleside. The parking was easy to deal with. The accommodation was peaceful and well appointed. It would have been even better if the small back yard had a gate between ourselves and our neighbours as we had a young dog with us who wanted to go into the other property when their back door was open.
Fabulous location 1 minute from the bus station, and central to shops & restaurants. The kitchen was spacious and generously equipped. The bed was comfortable. Towels were of good quality and the hot water was plentiful. The shower temperature was easily controlled, as was the heat. I definitely recommend Birchcroft.
Great little cottage in ideal location for exploring the South Lakes. Everything that could be needed was provided making it feel like home in the Lakes! Would definitely book again next time we are visiting the Lakes with our dog. Thank you!
Great property very convenient in the heart of Ambleside
Lovely cottage. I would definitely go again
Richard
Another great week in Birchcroft, a delightful cottage with plenty of space and a fantastic location in the middle of Ambleside. We parked up the car and walkedbiked everyday! Particularly impressed this time with the service we received from having a problem with the hot water, reported it via lakelovers helpline on a Sunday, had immediate response and the owner came out and sorted it while we were out walking, also followed up by lakelovers team. Excellent, thanks again for your super service.
I think this is our 3rd or 4th stay. As a fellow holiday let owner I know how challenging managing a property can be particularly around cleaners. On this occasion there were no bin liners leftmini welcome pack from lakelovers which isnt major, just attention to detail. The new carpet is a welcome addition however the property had a strong dog smell which I think are the 2 rugs in the loungedining area which are ready for a change otherwise another lovely break.

Need I say more. Whilst staying there, I booked for the following year! The central location suited me just fine, as it was so convenient to pop out for supplies, or cafes restaurants etc, but also, with walks directly from your door too. Further afield less than 10 minute drives in any direction you can find more challenging walks, but on return you know that after a shower or bath, you have a pub within sneezing distance! The cottage furniture didnt quite match the style of the beautiful cottage, but for a holiday let, it was sufficient. Parking was fine we were off season though. Worth noting that if you have a disability badge you can park right outside the cottage or any street surrounding for unlimited periods of time, where there is a permit scheme in place. One issue slightly was with the cleaning, as the loo in both bathrooms could have seen a little more attention, but once notified, the owner quickly responded. Which leads me to my other point!..there are two bathrooms! An ensuite and a family bathroomthat was the deciding factor for us when re booking, as coming with a friend, we had one eachexcellent! We werent able to take the wheely bin out as requested, because it was full to the brim it is shared with the cottage next door, and it had to be wheeled down some steps and as older ladies, we just couldnt budge itso we took our litter home with us. Fully recommend the cafe across the road The Copper Pot for just about everything we arrived early, so just had to have tea, cake and Proseccothen had an amazing breakfast there on another morning, plus it is dog friendly. To sum up..well, I will be returning next year! Sykes make things really easy and I feel confident using you as a company.
This is the second time we have stayed here and we will be back in the future. Great cottage in a fabulous location. Had everything we needed, the beds were very comfortable and the cottage was lovely and warm. Just for your information the fire wasn't working we didn't need it but just so you know.
Dianne
Lovely, comfortable accommodation. Home from home. Would definitely recommend.
This is our fourth visit to this lovely little cottage and we have enjoyed it every time, the electric fire required attention as it was very noisy. If you use the flame effect and the sofas are a little tired comfort wise but having said that the whole place is so convenient for the town and it was very warm and cozy a lovely touch of the Christmas decorations put up before our arrival Towels & Bed linen lovely and white & soft we will be back
We arrived early after a 7 hour drive and I was desperate for the boy's room. Thankfully, we were allowed to go in early, much to my relief! Anyway, a good start to our holiday. Cottage was in good order and the kitchen was a good size and well equipped. The beds were a little softer than at home but I slept suprisingly well. Ensuite shower was a joy to use and was BIG! Not a criticism, but the sofas were not over comfy being leather but 'tis true, we are on holiday to explore, not sit in all day! The most important question is, would we come back to Birchcroft? The answer is a resounding YES!
Michael
Birchcroft is a very cosy cottage, situated centrally in Ambleside. The cottage is very well equipped, spacious and has the luxury of two bathrooms!! Sadly, it does not have a garden just a small courtyard equipped with a table and chairs. Parking is immediately outside the property but limited to one hour. The restriction starts at 1000 and ends at 18.00. So ot is possible to park outside from 1700 until 1100 the next day. However, a parking permit is provided for use at a nearby car park outside these times. Birchcroft is within a very short walk of all Ambleside's shops, restaurants, pubs, etc. The town is ideally located in relation to other Lake District towns. Frequent bus services to all the Lake District towns operate from King Street, which is extremely close to Birchcroft. It being a small cottage, the stairs are steep and have turn in them. A banister would help enormously.
Firstly we did have a good trip, and were blessed with great weather . The cottage , in our view, is ready for a refurbishment and the weakest one we have stayed in . The location is great , the beds are decent and it's well equipped . It needs a new sofa , furniture and patios furniture . The carpets are past sell by date upstairs and whilst the ensuite and kitchen look the most recently modernised , it just feels about unloved with lightbulbs in fittings that don't match and a blind that is torn. We visit Ambleside twice a year but sadly Birchcroft won't be on a repeat list for us .
This is a lovely cottage in a great location, right in the centre of Ambleside. Generally everything worked perfectly, it was very comfortable for four adults, we had plenty of space to spread out and generous wardrobes for a cottage.
Ranald
This is our fifth time in Birchcroft. Great property in a great location we will be back
A great place to stay and convenient being on the centre of town . Very spacious and comfortable. A pity about creepy stairs landing floor boards but with the age of the building it is too be accepted.
Birchcroft was in an excellent location and within walking distance of all restaurants, bars and shops in Ambleside. The property was comfortable but could have been a bit cleaner. There was evidence of dust on the bedside lamps in both rooms. The bin in the kitchen hadnt been cleaned on the lid and outside.
Birchcroft was a lovely cottage conveniently situated in the heart of Ambleside. The facilities were superb and the beds extremely comfortable. We had an issue with one of the showers and contacted the customer service team at Sykes and this was sorted within an hour or two. Would stay here again.
Hollie
The cottage smelt really strongly of dogs when we arrived overpoweringly so. We had to go out and buy febreze and a plug in air freshener to try to mask it. Seemed to be mainly coming from the rug in the living area. The shower head fell off the first time we tried to use the shower in the main bathroom. Didn't cause us an issue as we just used the one in the en suite instead but needs fixing. The high chair was very dirty and needed a good scrub before we could use it. Sofas weren't very comfortable. Otherwise all was great well equipped and great location. Parking permits were very handy.
Michael
Great holiday property. Very clean and well serviced with everything you need for a short break. Central location in Ambleside close to shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. We highly recommend this beautiful cottage.
Amanda
Fantastic cottage in the middle of Ambelside would definitely stay again.
Richard
Lovely cottage in a great location, enough room for 4 people.
Excellent property in very convenient location. Would love to book again for future visits to Ambleside.
