Is Scafell Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
Scafell provides a cot and highchair for babies. A surprise cupboard full of games and jigsaws keeps older children entertained. However the apartment has many stairs and steps between rooms with uneven floors throughout. Trip hazards and gaps in bannister railings make it unsuitable for toddlers. Better suited to families with older children who can navigate stairs safely.
For Couples
The double bedroom features an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath. Huge Georgian windows frame spectacular fell views from the open plan lounge. A small viewing balcony provides a private spot overlooking the Fairfield Horseshoe. The central Ambleside location puts cosy pubs within two minutes walk. Comfortable beds and spacious rooms create a relaxing retreat after exploring Lake District walks together.
Pet Friendly
One well-behaved dog is welcome at Scafell. The ground floor private entrance provides dedicated space for storing walking gear and bikes after muddy adventures. Stock Ghyll Force waterfall and woodland walks are accessible directly on foot. Rydal and Skelwith Bridge offer excellent dog walking routes from the door. The central Ambleside location means dog-friendly pubs sit within two minutes walk.

Scafell Reviews

Clean and spacious appartment with everything we needed for our weeks stay. Would definitely stay here again
Michael
Excellent location for walks, pubs and restaurants and a guaranteed good nights sleep.
The apartment was very spacious, clean, and had beautiful views. However, there are several steps and dark carpets in the hallway, which made navigation difficult without lights on. A lighter carpet on the landing and hall would help, and the step into the twin room could be improved for safety.

Scafell is a fabulous apartment. I felt as though I had walked into a National Trust property! It was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. There are a lot of stairs which future guests may need to bear in mind and one quite deep step part way along the corridor which I managed to trip up once. A light outside would be very helpful, there may be one under the ivy. Also there are quite a few pans but the only one with a lid was a very large one which we used, a medium Im sized lidded pan would be very handy. Apart from that we had a lovely stay and the views were good too. We would love to stay again.
Rajeshree
Lovely place with great views. Shops and pubs nearby. Would definitely stay here again.
Amazing location and lovely place to stay, would definitely come back
Frazer
Great location fantastic views well equipped flat
Samantha
Our stay was comfortable and the accommodation was cleaned to a high standard. The location is literally just off Ambleside high street and parking is provided outside the property. The only negative comment I have is that the accommodation came with literally no extras. One bathroom had a very small amount of toilet roll and the other had none at all. There was no hand soap in the bathroom for hand washing after the loo. There was no salt etc in the kitchen. Whilst it would have been great to have a welcome pack this is generally standard for a property in this price bracket I would have at least expected the basics that are mentioned to be provided. It's also worth mentioning that the upstairs guests can clearly be heard talking and walking around especially at night in the twin room. It was loud enough to wake me on several occasions so probably not great for younger children. I had a lovely time but thought these things were worth a mention..
Daphne
The property is lovely, finished to a high standard, comfortable, with exceptionally wellequipped kitchen. Location was fabulous close to everything in Ambleside and within a short walk to the main bus stop. We walked everywhere Skelwith Bridge, Grasmere via Rydal, and took the bus to Keswick. Wonderful!
Geraldine
Well equipped and maintained property. Short walk to centre of Ambleside and great location to walk and tour. Only a couple of things to point out. Dark carpet on landing hides the step. Also twin bedroom on entrance there is a bit of a drop to be aware of
Needs to have cleaning products and relevant cloths for bathrooms, kitchen roll etc especially to help leaving the apartment in a clean as when arrived state. TV no signal and no Netflix? Internet issues with speed, and possible problems with Ariel dish post sever weather. Excellent central location for a Ambleside with parking and the apartment was warm and comfortable.
Geraldine
Excellent location and wonderful views. Comfortable and well equipped kitchen. A little precarious having shower in bath as shower head keeps moving and no screen over window. Also could do with a grab rail as high side. Also step on landing hall hazardous as carpet dark so not well defined.Otherwise we loved our stay and will book again.
Raymond
Scafell is a spacious, well appointed and well equipped apartment. It is conveniently located and has great views together with the benefit of a parking place. We would certainly stay here again and recommend it to others.
Thomas
Lovely property , clean and freshly decorated. . only issues were vacuum cleaner would not pick up dog hairs and main bedroom could do with either blackout linings or blackout blind.
The apartment was comfortable and well appointed and the location was excellent. The oven was in need of a clean and one of the electrical sockets was damaged which your maintenance team dealt with promptly. We enjoyed our stay.
This is the second time we have stayed at Scarfell and the improvement with the new windows since our last visit was very welcoming. just need to replace the front bedroom ones now. We had a small problem with the shower in the main bathroom not shutting off. Overall we enjoyed our stay again and would return without hesitation as it's in a perfect position for walkers.
This apartment was stunning. What you see is what you get. Beautiful old building and views. Don't understand the negative reviews. Everything was provided. The decor is appropriate for the age of the building. Definitely will be staying again.
Carole
Our only problem with the cottage was getting the key out of the safe it was very to get out and put back in.
The apartment is tired and in need of a refresh. Although a great location the overgrown ivy around the door isnt appealing and on entry the hallway is very dark with dark carpets. Lots of indoor steps which are trip hazards and simply putting light carpets and bright paint would make a huge difference. Plenty of space and nice balcony with super kitchen. The main shower doesnt stay up and no soundproofing so you hear everything from others in the building. Can be unnerving if in the apartment alone. A great stay but please do a refresh to reflect the grand building.
Overall a good property, well appointed and very conveniently located. We enjoyed our stay here. Although the description of 'elegant' might not quite fit an overgrown doorway, peeling wallpaper and a slightly grim main bathroom not pictured on website. The shower room in the twin room however was lovely if quite small. Kitchen is also well equipped. The views are excellent and the noise from Lake Road is generally minimal. Overall satisfied with this property and would happily book again.
Scafell is an amazing property with such lovely views and right in centre of Ambleside. We will definitely be back.
Fabulous location, far bigger than anticipated. Brilliantly well equipped kitchen and a surprise cupboard full of games and jigsaws which we loved. Would definitely return.
We spent a lovely week here. Great to be so central to Ambleside but with fell views and a spacious living room. Clean. Beds comfortable. First impressions werent great especially with a four year old. Cracked glass in the casement windows including at small child height patched on Monday when I could first get through to Lakelovers open views of the bathroom from the road tight parking loose glass tops on the bedside tables main room lots of stairs slightly too large a gap for my liking in the bannister railings at the top corner which is probably only noticeable when small child has climbed next to it as its behind another hand rail, small steps intoout of most of the rooms, floors generally very uneven, a bit of a musty smell in the internal corridor think due to the cupboard at the end and a bit of dark dank feeling in the entrance and stairs. Overall, it felt a bit unsafe with a little one but we only had a couple of tumbles on the steps into the rooms, and once wed got used to it, it was fine. But I wouldnt recommend for toddlers who are less stable or safe on stairs. I would also suggest changing the beds in the twin room at some point I ended up with some lovely bruises from the corner which juts out when walking through the gap to the window. But overall, we enjoyed it, especially exploring the games in the cupboard, were sad to leave and would happily return.
Cottage clean and tidy on arrival, a few trip hazards, big step on the landing and small step ups from the kitchen and twin bedroom, ok once you remember to step up. Could do with a little upgrading here and there otherwise OK for a weeks stay. Car parking spaces a little tight to manoeuvre when all spaces are taken for the other apartments.
Frazer
Really nice property, lovely view of fells ,every thing you could need close ... Really nice property, lovely view of fells ,every thing you could need close enough to the centre of Ambleside to be really convenient but also fare enough to be peaceful
Very good holiday cottage good accurate description, great value for money
A perfect position for the centre of town if a little bit noisy with traffic. Could do with frosting for privacy and a way of locking the bathroom window open securely when out walking. Overall a nice property with parking.
Balcony especially and some of the decoration was shabby. Otherwise it was a great property.
Louise
Property was spacious in good location, had everything we needed and we really enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay again. For info, we couldnt get the dishwasher to work. It seemed to switch on but then programme must have cancelled because nothing was washed and tablet was still in dispenser. Tried 3 times. This was no great issue for us but just letting you know.
Not easy to locate,as inside a court yard although very central, entrance not visible from old lake road. Needed to contact office for further directions .Step into kitchen, and in twin bedroom, need pointing out also stone step at entrance.having said that property only 2 mins walk from ambleside very good size lounge, with a good book selection! Also lots of leaflets and booklets of local attractions, and overall a nice property.
The bedrooms and kitchen very nice very comfy beds. Front room could do with some modernisation and painting.
I have marked the accuracy of the listing down because it does not specify that WiFi is available. A couple of client reviews note the lack of WiFi , so I was pleasantly surprised to find it there. Changing the listing to include WiFi will demonstrate that this issue has been addressed. In fact all the negative comments in recent reviews had been addressed so it was clean no broken toilet seat and the carpet in the boot room had been removed, so no musty smell. Decor was in keeping with the age of the apartment but was in good condition. In summary a lovely apartment in a fabulous location and both Lakelovers and the owner had responded promptly to previous feedback.
Claire
Really enjoyed our stay at Scafell, great location close to town, with parking right outside the door. The only down was that its quite dated in chose of decor and they didnt have WiFi .
I have stayed at this apartment twice, great location and nice large property with the bonus of a parking space. The only negatives are no WiFi and a small tv with limited channels. I would of booked again for next year had it not been for the price increase.
Stephen
The apartment was clean and spacious and well positioned in the town close to the amenities. Would strongly suggest WiFi is installed as this is now an expectation rather than a bonus feature.
We love staying in Ambleside! The property is close to all the amenities and the walks we enjoy.
