Absolutely amazing! EVERYTHING had been thought of from dishwasher tablets, to games and teddies for kids, to bird feed to umbrellas to aid the walk into Ambleside in the rain. The beds were comfy and the welcome treats were very much appreciated. We couldn't have wished for more. Thank you!
Sunita
A lovely well equipped property. Had everything you could need. Very clean. Like home from home The welcome gifts were very much appreciated! Peter and Avril were kind and responsive hosts Warm and cosy on winter days. Beautiful views . Well located, just 10 minutes into the centre of Ambleside but in a peaceful cul de sac with easy parking. Lots of walks from the front door. It was perfect really. Would happily stay here again. Highly recommended.
Carolyn
A real home from home, everything you need for a lovely holiday.
Loved this place. We made a lot of requests for various reasons, and Pete and Avril were wonderfully accommodating. The view from the hill is stunning and just gets you excited for exploring each day. Facilities are fabulous lots of room and so well equipped.
Katherine
Redwood is in a great location a couple of minutes drive from Ambleside centre or 1015 walk. The location is very quiet and peaceful. We saw lots of different species of birds on the feeders in the back garden, which was hugely enjoyable. The house was spotlessly clean with everything you could need provided by the hosts for an enjoyable stay. We enjoyed walks at Elterwater, Grasmere and Windemere whilst staying here. We would be delighted to stay at Redwood again in the future.
Rosalyn
Fantastic property and owners where very helpful. The welcome package was much appreciated after the journey. There's lots of space to relax and get things dry when the weather turns. Highly recommend this property. It's so nice to have parking and be so close to the centre of Ambleside. Will miss the views of Loughrigg.
Robert
Beautiful is the best way to describe it, that was our second time there and just booked again for next august 26 .
Excellent property. Super welcome pack and plenty of high quality toiletries. Very busy in the village but Redwood is in a peaceful and quiet area with plenty of wildlife close by. Would stay again.
Andrea
Great location, very quiet even though Ambleside is very busy this time of year. Owner had left us little gifts which was a lovely surprise. Cant fault it at all. Andrea
A great place to stay. Very comfortable and well equipped. 3rd stay
An excellent property comfortable and fully equipped in an ideal location for us near hill walking and quiet. It had everything we needed and wonderful views The communication with the owners was excellent with Sykes less so
Absolutely great facilities,cleanliness & comfort
We had such a lovely holiday, partly due to Redwood being so comfortable as previous reviews had stated. There are many walks from the house and it made such a nice change from having to take the car every day. Thank you Peter and Avril for the very much appreciated welcome pack. If we ever come back to stay in Ambleside we will certainly book Redwood again.
Patricia
What a lovely property! On arrival we were delighted to have a welcoming Easter card from the owners, Peter and Avril, an Easter chocolate bunny, biscuits, fudge and wine. Never had such a welcome! The property has everything you need and is well positioned for Ambleside. The pictures of the property on the website don't do it justice, especially of the pretty back garden which directly has views up the lower slopes of Wansfell. We were treated to visits from ducks, a sheep and lamb, all sorts of birds, and our favourite a pheasant which we called lec lec as he was dancing with another male pheasant to gain the attention of his missus who was busily eating in the next garden. We will miss him! Thank you for a lovely stay!
Michael
Utterly wonderful place in a similarly wonderful location. Zero issues with the property at all. If we head back to the Lake District this will definitely be our place of choice to base ourselves at.
Debbie
Fantastic accommodation in great location. House was well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable winter break. The location was fantastic and we look forward to staying again.
We have had a wonderful stay at Redwood, it is, as many have previously said, absolutely brilliant and exceeded all our expectations. We have enjoyed watching the many, many birds which visit the feeders which we kept topped up! and also had regular visits from the badger and the pheasants. There are lots walks to begin from the door whether short wanders or long mountain rounds. The bus services are also very good from Ambleside with links to all the surrounding main areas if you want to go further afield. If you do the walk round to Troutbeck we can highly recommend the Old Post Office Tearoom open Thurs to Monday. Excellent cakes, tea in proper cups and a very nice atmosphere. Thank you Peter and Avril for the lovely welcome pack gifts and the little extras which made it a perfect stay, it's without doubt the best property we have stayed in.
Carolyn
Cant fault it, everything was just fine.
Hello again, this was our 4th stay at Redwood, and like the previous visits it was just like home. Warm, comfortable and private, and with all the easy access to Ambleside and Lakeland areas, both stunning and beautiful. It was very calm weather for most of the week, most welcome. Redwood is our recommendation, nothing negative at all. With thanks.
Tracey
This cottage is perfect for a stay in Ambleside. We loved the 10min walk into town but yet within 5 mins walk we were going up to the fells. The house was toasty warm, lots of booksgames etc, comfy beds couldnt fault anything. We would definitely come back. If I was being picky, my only feedback would be that bigger towels eg bath sheets, would be better as the towels were barely big enough to wrap round us! Overall a fantastic stay and would highly recommend. .
Patricia
The property was lovely. It had everything and more than I needed for my stay. The welcome pack was very much appreciated and a lovely touch. I would definitely recommend Redwood and would come back to stay again.
Kathleen
We visited between 9th to 12 November 2024 and found the property to be extremely clean and well equipped. We had a welcome basket of goodies and met the owners who were lovely and kind. Many thanks for our extra gifts, they were a super surprise! Kath and Ron
Redwood exceeded all expectations. Whilst the details provided are accurate what they can't describe is the high quality of the provision eg fabric & furniture, decor, kitchen equipment, bedding, etc., etc. The owners have thought of everything from games & toys for children, books & DVDs for both children & adults, umbrellas just in case to handwash & soap in bathrooms, and every kitchen utensil you might need. It's rare to say I can't fault it but there was nothing I would change & plenty I didn't expect. Ambleside is a 10 min walk down & 15 min back up a steep hill. Great exercise! Lovely views of wildlife in the garden & up the hill behind the house too. We had excellent communications with the owners who were obviously keen to make our stay a brilliant one. Safe to say Redwood will be our first choice when we return to the Lakes.
We had a lovely stay at Redwood. The property was immaculately clean and the owners left us biscuits, chocolates and a bottle of wine, as well as tea and coffee and milk. There are lovely views of Loughrigg at the front. The only negative is that it is at the top of a hill but of course you expect that in the Lake District! We would definitely stay here again.
Fantastic location & amenities, wanted for nothing
An absolutely delightful property. The owners have to be congratulated on their care and generosity in providing everything you could possibly need as well as the little extras that made us feel so at home. We have been coming to the Lake District for over 50 years and this is, without doubt, the most welcoming place we have stayed. The walk up from town was a little steep for our 75 year old legs but Ambleside Taxis saved our arthritic knees! And the couple of days when the rain kept us indoors were spent appreciating the warmth and comfort of the house and enjoying the views and the wildlife. Improvements? None whatsoever!
The property is so lovely and very well equipped. We all very much enjoyed our stay and the presence of children's items meant that we did not feel so worried about our daughter enjoying herself, playing and having the odd spill which we of course cleaned up. The only thing that would have made this better would have been if the listing on sykes had more information about what was available as we are so used to having to bring so much with us that we overpacked and knowing the items were already there would have saved us a bit of stress. We are also very greatful to the lovely owners who came to free a stuck sheep in the garden and in the process spotted our daughter playing with one of their stuffed animals and allowed her to keep it. it has become a favourite and she has not let it leave her side since. We loved our stay and will be booking again next year.
Great stay. Well maintained, comfortable property.
Lorraine
We were delighted with the property. Spacious and modern. Cleanliness was immaculate and we really appreciated the hand soap, shower gel, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, washing powder and toilet roll. Well equipped kitchen with Tassimo and pods provided. Both showers were brilliant as well as the comfy beds. Great welcome pack of wine, chocolate and biscuits. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. A lovely little garden with fabulous views. 10 mins walk into Ambleside and 15 mins back due to the steep incline of the road. The local cockerel is a beauty but not so much early in the morning. We would definitely stay again in the future.
Leslie
Very well maintained and equipped. Within short walking distance to town centre and many walks. Excellent bus service. A delightful place to stay if, like us, you enjoy wildlife. Many species of birds were visiting the feeding station including a cockerel, two mallard and three pheasants. Also lambs in the field and a badger in the next door neighbours front garden. Met the owners who are delightful people.
Stuart
A delightful cottage, ideal for us to explore the lakes by foot and road. We particularly welcomed the communication on the first day and the package you left for us. The house was nice and warm you could probably get a way with it being a couple of degrees cooler to save a little on bills. The kitchen is well equipped and the new oven was very efficient. Thank you for such a great stay.
One of the best properties we have stayed in comfortable, plenty of room, v well equipped and spotlessly clean. The welcome gifts were much appreciated. Good views of Loughrigg from the front and nice watching the birds, sheep, cockerel and deer out the back. Great selection of books and games. Location ideal for us with a 10 min walk into town.
