A lovely place to stay. Comfortable and convenient.
Overall good accommodation only down side second bedroom mattress soft in the middle
Everything excellent. But I have a mobility problem, and really missed grab handles to help me in and out of the shower over the bath. Great to have control over heating and hot water. Easy parking with level drive, and lovely view from the sitting room. Our second stay here, thank you Claire. From A&E
Albert
Excellent accommodation. Comfortable, warm and well appointed.

Property was well equiped and in a nice quiet location. Expected a slightly larger rear garden. The furniture in the garden could have used a good clean. Overall we were very happy with the property.
Graeme
Great bungalow, well equipped and lovely and clean. Great location for Ambleside's amenities and local walks. Would definitely recommend and consider a return. Shame you couldn't control the weather
We have stayed at various properties over the past 16 years during our visits to Ambleside and this is probably the best we have visited for its very quiet and lovely location and still within easy walking into town to catch a bus for our onward walking. The property is let down by a few things and is a little tired door handles, window fixings drawers of some units difficult to open basic TV only outside maintenance. We had stayed at another location for a few days previously and used the washing machine the day after our arrival for a very small wash. During the short wash cycle the machine was making horrendous noises and when it stopped I thought it was steam but it was smoke coming from the drum, I contacted Sykes the booking agents advised they would contact maintenance , after no further contacted , I chased up sykes who were unable to say when or if maintenance would attend. No follow up call from sykes. Having paid over 800 for the booking I expected a little more.
This was our 4th stay at Mount Sol and our feedback is identical to last year. Great location to stay which is why we came back for a 4th visit but we were really disappointed that our feedback of last year had been ignored! The TV really needs to be replaced with a Smart TV.....PLEASE !!!!!

Already booked Mount Sol for May 2026 .

3rd visit. Lovely place to stay
This is a very comfortable holiday cottage in a great location for accessing all the joys of Ambleside. The cottage was very clean and well appointed, with everything you could possibly need. There was a lovely welcome pack from the owner and best of all, the house was trimmed up for Christmas, which was a real treat.
We had a great holiday at your lovely property. We thought the storage space in one of the bedrooms a bit limited, just a suggestion but if you removed the rocking chair there would be room for a chest of drawers. Apart from that we couldn't find any fault. Would definitely recommend and would love to return. Many thanks.
Comfortable bungalow with a great view in a quiet street. Close to the village amenities, though the walk back is quite steep and would not be suitable for people with disabilities. Well equipped, and overall a good place from which to explore the Lake District.
Lovely bungalow, spotless, fresh, comfortable and well equipped. Needs an oven glove
Gorgeous property in a really good location. Has everything you need and is very homely. Weve stayed here a few times now and will definitely be back again.

We had amazing time in Mount Sol. It has all the facilities you need and beautiful views. It was very quiet area and really close to town centre. We will definitely come back to enjoy our holidays in Mount Sol again. Thank you so much for this time.
This was the 3rd time that we'd stayed at 'Mount Sol' and as always we found the location to be a quiet and relaxing base for a walking holiday. However, this time the weather wasn't as good as the 2 previous visits and so more time was spent indoors than usual. As a result of this we realised that there a couple of things that could do with improving. Firstly we think a 'smart tv' with access to 'iplayer' etc would be a great addition to the lounge they are after all only a few hundred pounds. Secondly, we found the lounge sofas which look great are not particularly comfortable when you need to use them for more than a short time.
Pamela
A well appointed and equipped bungalow. New curtains and titivations have improved the place. Agree with a previous review that the pillows and duvet are old,of poor quality and need replacing. However, loved our stay there for a second time and have already booked for two weeks in 2025.
Absolutely beautiful bungalow. Stunning setting. A deer came visiting the front garden early evening. It was so peaceful away from the hustle and bustle but near enough to reach the amenities. The place was very clean and comfortable. We had 3 blissful weeks. Nice touches such as tea coffee etc milk and a box of biscuits on arrival. We have been visiting the Lake District for 25 years but I can honestly say that we were the most comfortable we have ever been. Thank you. We will be back.
Had a wonderful stay. First time here at Mount Sol, very good location enjoyed the peace and quiet yet only a few minutes walk from center of Ambleside. Well kitted out and spotlessly clean, would definitely return. Thank you.
In spite of rainy weather for most of our week, we thoroughly enjoyed staying at Mount Sol. Well equipped, comfortable and handy for walking into Ambleside. We also appreciated the festive treats which the owner, Clare, had left for us biscuits, chocolate and processo. Great place to stay. Thank you Clare!
Angela
We had a great time but were a little disappointed that when we arrived at 4pm there was not even a couple of teabags, sugar or milk so we had to get straight back in the car to get provisions after a long drive. This was the only negative everything else was great.
Pamela
The bungalow was in an ideal location. The facilities were good with a lovely kitchen, however the property was let down by the interior decorations, it could do with being painted throughout.
Mount Sol is perfectly placed for a quiet stay, yet close enough to walk to the amenities of Ambleside IF you are fit enough to cope with the hill which we are still just and knew it would be steep, on booking, as know the area. Parking is good. Presentation was good albeit the decor is a bit stark, certainly not contemporary as listed. However, there was an old musty smell to welcome us as we opened the door which wasn't great, possibly due to the old furniture in the place. We bought an air freshener for the Hall which helped, and on departure moved the dried up cottage ones around, hopefully for the benefit of the next guests. KITCHEN No WashingUp Bowl !! Main Oven does not work we managed as the top oven does work. Kitchen Table is only useful as a dumping ground as the Kitchen is too small for it & the door has to be closed to sit down at it so not practical at all the main dining table is all you need. Some of the old crockery is chipped or cracked & Oven Trays are disgusting all should all be replaced. LOUNGEDINER Dining Table good but the Chairs have lost their seat resistance so we had to use cushions as boosters. The Sofas are dated but most importantly not comfortable as you slip off the shiny leather. BEDROOMS We only used the King tatty bed frame, but the mattress gave a comfortable nights sleep. Pillows are old and unhealthily stained yellow despite having protective covers on them they should be replaced and regularly checked we used our car cushions instead of the top pillows. I left them exposed to the Cleaners so they could see them. We used to own a holiday let and replaced our pillows annually by default ! BATHROOM modern in comparison to the rest of the house, but the central bath pressdownup plug made it difficult to keep the water from draining as every time you move it released the plug. Hubby looked at it after and found it to be loose so tightened the screw on it didn't fancy a bath after that though just in case it hadn't fixed it. GENERAL No Welcome Pack never expected but most do leave some welcoming treats for their paying guests we used to.
Yvonne
Cottage as good as ever but the sofas are so slippy and a bit short. Impossible to sit still and the cushions just fall all over the place. There appears to have been some kind of device put on the electric as charging any device took forever. Internet connection unsecure and my provider found numerous attacks which meant I felt unable to use my laptop for safety reason. Front steps are dangerous and could do with being replaced plus a good sweep of the steps and path would be advantageous to stop people taking dirt into the property. A reminder to remove shoes before entering.
Mount Sol is a delightful and comfortable cottage with every facility. Entrance to property is via a number of uneven steps with a handrail that is fixed to rotten board. There is a contradiction between the inside of the property which is warm, welcoming & well equipped and the exterior of the building which desperately needs maintenance eg total repaint and refurb of timber. Rear window frames are cracked and split due to elderly misaligned locks. Mount Sol is approached via narrow twisting private roads as you enter the estate ie two hairpins on upward hills. All in all Mount Sol provided a lovely and very peaceful holiday base at the centre of the Lakes, we will certainly endeavour to return for another holiday.
This was our first time staying at Mount Sol and it definitely won't be our last. It's a lovely cottage in a very peaceful area, well equipped and very clean. Thank you.
Lovely location. Nice clean property. We just felt it could do with a little bit of TLC to bring it in line with some of the properties we have stayed in previously.
Lovely property, ideally located. Only used the car twice in two weeks! Wonderful holiday with amazing weather. Would gladly return.
Great location, good size, superclean and fab facilities. Only recommendations it would ideal if the property had twin beds rather than the double bed and the garden could do with a bit of maintenance lovely and private but in need of a bit of tlc.
Great property, accurately described, well located and presented. The equipmentutensils provided within the kitchen was the best we have ever had, making self catering easy. We had a fantastic time and would definitely stay again in the future.
Location is excellent. very clean. good space for 2 people. negatives cracked bathroom floor tiles, not good for bare feet. This actually referred to nearly 2 years ago! Step by rear door loose. Handrail by front door fixed to rotting timber. Shame to be critical but these things really need fixing BEFORE an injury. Front of microwave very loose. Some crockery is chipped needs replacing. Well done to cleaning staff it was spotless.
Michelle
Fantastic home from home, clean, comfortable, well equipped, quiet location whilst being near to Waterhead and shops in Ambleside. Lovely location, lovely accommodation, lovely holiday. Worked really well for us and my mum o
The windows are not in a very good condition and those in the lounge can't really be opened very well. Fittings on all of them are loose. The top step from the back door is loose. The house was very clean and well equipped. The fridge was not really cold enough for our liking. Very quiet and some lovely views.
Bethany
Such a beautiful property. It's our second stay in this house and so far the only place in the Lakes that has felt like home rather than just a place to stay for the week.
Vanessa
Lovely comfortable property in good location in Ambleside, good wifi also. Had a problem with the oven but after a phone call this was resolved very quickly. Nice to have a view of the fells whilst eating breakfast. Would book again. Thank you!
Alison
This is at least our third visit to Mount Sol and we had a great time again. The views from the bungalow are lovely. It was spotless and very comfortable for two. It's in a quiet location and convenient for Ambleside.
Catherine
Cosy and modern property and great location. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you
A spotless, comfortable and well equipped bungalow. Lovely views from the windows. Not so much as a pint of milk as a welcome was a little disappointing.
Patricia
We had a great stay in a lovely house which was very well equipped, clean and conveniently placed to walk into the town. We have only 2 very minor negatives 1 we would have been glad of spare blankets as the duvets were not quite warm enough for the time of year February and 2 there is a large black stone on the right of the front drive which we did not see in the dark when we arrived late after a long journey from the north of Scotland. All in all we had a lovely holiday and would love to return to Mont Sol in the future.
