Is Landower House Right For You?

Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
Landower House provides a cot and highchair for families with babies and toddlers. The open-plan living space lets parents keep an eye on young children easily. Stock Ghyll Force waterfall sits within walking distance for an easy family outing. Ambleside centre offers two cinemas and various cafes suitable for families. The property's location gives access to gentle lakeside walks at Waterhead and numerous family-friendly attractions across the Lake District.
For Couples
This property works better for groups than couples alone. The four-bedroom layout and capacity for 8 guests makes it oversized for a romantic break. Couples would find themselves paying for unused space and facilities designed for larger parties. The open-plan design lacks the intimate atmosphere most couples prefer. Better suited properties exist in the Lake District for romantic getaways with just two guests.
Pet Friendly
Landower House does not accept pets. The property operates a strict no-pets policy for all bookings. Dogs and other animals cannot stay at this accommodation under any circumstances. Guests travelling with pets need to find alternative Lake District properties that welcome animals. The Lakelovers collection includes other cottages that do accept pets if you need to bring your dog along.

Landower House Reviews

This was our second stay at Landowner House. We returned because we enjoyed it so much the first time. The facilities, the layout and cleanliness of the property, together with the convenient location for restaurants, shops and local walks, make it a perfect choice for our family holidays. The welcome pack was also a lovely touch. I'm sure we will return in the future.
Our 5th stay at this lovely property and it still doesnt disappoint. Great design and layout for a group and provides both privacy and socialising space. Well located and parking is a real bonus. Only issues concerned a lack of communication from Sykes taking on board agreed request for one room to be configured as a twin and a few maintenance issues with exterior lighting and underfloor heating that need attention but appreciate this often occurs as the years pass. Issue with the bedroom resolved very quickly so thanks to the owners and housekeeper for that. Already planning our 6th visit next year.
Great location and beautiful well equipped property love it ! Could do with outside lighting being repaired as very dark near the steps

The property is the perfect place to explore Ambleside and the surrounding area, walking distance to town centre. The house is superbly appointed and everything we needed was there including a rather nice welcome pack. Beds were very comfortable and house setup was perfect for group of adults. Kitchen appliances were plentiful and all crockery in very good condition. House was lovely and warm and a great place to relax. Outside we were able to sit comfortably at the table and chat and have coffee. Overall would love to return for a future stay.
Landower is superbly appointed and fantastically equipped. Unfortunately, on this occasion, SykesLakelovers failed to respond adequately to reported issues.
I filled in the guest book at the property. Im happy for these comments to be published on line.
Landower is a wonderfully located property within walking distance of Ambleside. It's very spacious for our family of 9 this includes a baby. There were a couple of maintenance issues needing reviewed while we were there an ensuite extractor fan not working & lighting in the same bedroom not working. The open plan living space is beautiful with a large amount of glazing but consequently creates an absolute oven during this very hot weather, so fans would have been much appreciated. The instructions for the house could be improved as we still have no idea how the heating operated it came on despite 22C weather. Overall a fabulous place and just those tiny bits need addressed to bring it up to the highest of standards.

Good location for the town. Private parking. Everyone was comfortable with good bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. Main living area was big enough for all of us. Excellent holiday home.
Unfortunately the freezer did not appear to be working correctly resulting in us having to throw away some of the food we had brought with us. Tried to call around lunchtime on Saturday but no reply or message service. Also the bin had not been emptied before we arrived so we had limited capacity. We took what we could home with is
Comfortable modern property with easy access to town. Lovely modern property with perfect layout and nice views. Situated off main road but quiet and peaceful. Very well furnished with high spec furniture and equipped with every utensil needed available. Great outdoor space for relaxtion and a vino or two south facing. Welcome pack very much appreciated. Enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recomend this property for a relaxing break.
Wonderful accommodation, everything you need for a comfortable stay provided. The location of the property was perfect. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and only wished that our stay could have been longer! Would love to stay here again in the future.
Landower is a fantastic property with easy walk into Ambleside. The property has everything you would need a few extra parts. Excellent value for money and decorated internally to an exacting high standard
We enjoyed a fabulous stay at Landower House. The layout of the house was perfect for a group of 8. It was furnished to a very high standard, very well equipped and in a great location for walking into Ambleside and getting to other parts of the Lake District. One of the very best houses we have stayed in as a group over 21 years. Thank you.
Great quality all round. Well kitted out. We've booked next year that says it all! hope you'll have us!.
A beautiful house, in a fantastic location, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would definitely recommend. Just some little things we would like to make you aware of to help you further improve. 1. Outside the back door was crawling with ants. 2. The bin was 34 full when we arrived on Friday, despite refuse collection being Thursday. 3. Only one teaspoon for 8 people. 4. Only 2 champagne flutes for 8 people. 5. The instructions for the lighting and heating could be better explained. All of these things are noted to you constructively. Your house is gorgeous and we loved it Kind Regards The Collinson & Astil families

Our Annual family gathering in The Lake District, and back to Ambleside this year. Landower is by far the best cottage we have stayed in, it fitted the bill perfectly. Luxurious bathrooms worthy of a very posh hotel.beautiful bedrooms with comfy beds. Outside space to sit in the sunshine and have a drink. Thank you for the lovely welcome pack too, that was a really nice touch. Would love to return.

An absolutely fantastic holiday home in the most perfect location
Denise
Ideally located beautiful accommodating property with all amenities required to support a comfortable stay. We had a wonderful family Easter with varied ages staying and everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The centre of Ambleside was a 10 minute walk away with a variety of great places to eat . Definitely recommend The Tap Yard. We would definitely love to return.
Five star stay Amazing property had everything we needed for our stay. Location is fantastic 5 minutes walk into town. Would love to come back
We travelled from Scotland for a get together with friends. The house was perfect for four couples. Great location. No need to use our cars the entire time. Walking distance to lovely pubs and restaurants with great Lake District walks nearby. We have booked again for next year. My only tiny criticism is that it would be good if you provided decent size glasses for our G&Ts.
Stayed here for a weekend with friends and we were blown away , the location is ... Stayed here for a weekend with friends and we were blown away , the location is perfect and the house was so clean and everything is quality and had a lovely welcome gift which was a lovely touch , cant recommend enough will certainly be back
This was a repeat visit with friends. We love this house. It was so warm and comfortable in spite of the very cold weather. Its well equipped and everything is of good quality, which we really appreciate. The bedrooms and ensuites are modern and very comfortable. Plenty of hot water! The house is a very sociable space to spend time with friends or family and is perfectly situated to not have to use a car once youre there. Also plenty of parking.

A lovely property, one of the best we have stayed at in the Lake District and we have been coming for over 50yrs. Comfortable sofasmakes a change as some properties skimp om the sofas! I enjoy cooking and there are excellent facilitiesutensilspans you have thought of everythingit was like being at home, with everything we needed. Just one criticism, very minor lack of good, sharp, cooking knives. Oh, and some of the light switchesdimmers are tricky to switch off. Loved the location for our family as it is so convenient for Ambleside. Thank you.
Loved our stay here, will definitely be booking again. The house is perfect. Ideally located to visit a lot of the Lake District by car or by the bus stop situated right outside the property, or by walking with Ambleside a less then 5 minute walk up the road. Fully equipped kitchen. Dining room was fine, including chairs. All bedrooms come with en suite. Everything you could need has been thought of porch with coat racks and boot mats, toiletries in the bathrooms, a welcome hamper, privacy blinds all around the property, parking off the main and side road with electric charging point. However, as per previous reviews TV channels were still messed up. Cleanliness wasnt the best. No sign of hoovering in any of the bedrooms bathrooms, still signs of the previous visitors stay. The loud noise in the middle of the night, heard all around the house, coming from the loft and outside, only presume its a generator or water heater. So so loud. Great place! Would highly recommend.
We had a lovely week at Landower. The open plan space was great for our little ones we brought our own stair gate!. All the bedrooms were beautiful and the kitchen was wellappointed. Location was quiet and convenient. We also had to put some new batteries in the Hive thermostats to get the heating working thank you to whoever mentioned that in a previous review! but that was the only thing that was less than perfect. Weve already booked to go back next year.
Just returned from a fabulous week at Landower House celebrating a significant birthday. It is a lovely property with great living space and parking and just 5 minutes walk from Ambleside Centre. Although so close to cafes and bars, we found it to be very peaceful. We had a fantastic weather week and thoroughly enjoyed the outside patio area. The only downside was that the property could have be cleaned more thoroughly particularly the fridge & bathrooms.
Fantastic place to stay and great location for exploring Ambleside on foot. Cannot fault it.
Just got back from a lovely stay apart from the typical lakes weather. The property in a good location, with good parking and five minutes from town. It has a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and the ensuite bathrooms have fantastic showers. The linen and towels provided were good. Nice little touches were the welcome hamper and mini products in each bathroom. The property would benefit from a wifi extender as you could not get wifi in the lower master bedroom, but it wouldn't put me off coming back. Also, in the same bedroom, a light where the dressing table mirror is, as the light provided there didn't work. If you wish to explore further afield, without a car, there is a handy bus stop at the end of the road with a bus picking passengers up regularly. Some would say it's expensive, but you get what you pay for. Would I come back, yes definitely.
Fabulous property in a perfect location. Absolutely everything catered for. Very ultra modern although some of the light switches took some figuring out. Would 100 recommend this property and can't wait to stay again.
The property is amazing has everything in it from comfortable beds to amazing showers baths and also great kitchen facilities for cooking. We was blown away with how amazing and comfortable it was for all the family would definitely recommend. The location was great for good walks and places to eat and not far from Kendal, Windermere, Keswick etc.
Nicola
Lovely property in a great location with the bonus of parking for 4 vehicles. We had issues with lack of heating and the maintenance team sorted it by changing the batteries in the controllers! Great to have a storage shed for bikes and well equipped house.
8 of us stayed at Landower House for my husbands 60th birthday. The property is beautiful with ample space for all of us and the location perfect for a short stroll into Ambleside. Would definitely recommend!
Melanie
Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us! We loved it so much we have rebooked the same week for next year. We choose your house to celebrate my 50th birthday
Werner
The perfect house for a family celebration. The best self catering property we have ever stayed in. Location and parking couldnt be better. Gorgeous and comfy bedrooms and beautiful modern bathrooms. Lots of good comfortable seating in the lounge room. Lovely wood burner. Dining room was great for eating and playing games. Amazingly equipped kitchen. We will never stay anywhere else in the Lake District. Couldnt ask for anything better.
Andrea
What a fantastic house , well appointed and in an amazing position for a weekend in Ambleside . The rooms are a very high standard comfortable and cosy . There is everything you could need in the kitchen especially as we were celebrating , plenty of plates, cups bowls and glasses for champagne . The stunning dining room with its beautiful windows and lighting provided a great backdrop for relaxed breakfasts and evening sharing platters . The hosts have really thought of everything . The sitting area was luxury, a wood burner with comfy chairs and couches a great place to sit round chat and relax . There was plenty of storage space, a fantastic porch with lots of coat hangers and room for boots and waterproofs.. We would definitely recommend staying here , the town centre is a short walk and we enjoyed shopping and eating and drinking in the local bars and restaurants. Hopefully we will make it back one day .
Excellent property. Well positioned and wonderful for eight persons. We have been coming to the Lake District for the past 30 odd years and this rates top of our list. We have spent the last two New Years here.
Absolutely fabulous property we had such a wonderful time weve already booked for next year. As a party of 8 over 50s we stay in the lakes this weekend every year and this is the best property we have stayed in 1010 thank you
I have to say the accommodation and location was first class. The house was very well equipped inside and very generous outside space for cars making it stress free for parking. Also would like to say the informationhelp provided by Lakelovers was brilliant.
