Bield How Reviews

A lovely house in a perfect location for Ambleside. The description was spot on. Very spacious and clean. Good hot showers and useful having the two bathrooms. Comfortable beds. Good to have space for shoes and coats in the entrance hall too. It is true there are steps and a sloped garden up to the property from the parking to be aware of but we knew that and it was fine.

Really enjoyed staying at this property. Great location, comfortable beds, hot showers, well stocked kitchen and very clean. One of the best cottages we have stayed in. Lovely garden and great views. A couple of minor issues with a dripping bathroom sink tap, no ensuite plug and no hand soap.
Deborah
This was our fourth trip to Bield How and we still love it. Roomy and light, it had everything we need and plenty of space. We left the car in the parking spot for the week and used the amazing bus service to get everywhere we wanted from just outside the house. The pier with all its boat cruises is a 1015 minute walk away. It also is next to a cafe, a gluten free fish and chip shop, and has lovely views across the lake. It's a short walk into Ambleside, and there's a garage by the parking spot for emergency milk and such. A great time was had, again.
We had an electrical problem first day that . Ent no hot water for first 24hrs . David the maintenance man was very good and fixed new switch for immersion heater Sunday morning. The house is always very comfortable and well fitted out ,we did find some of the TV sets did not have any signal but in general we did enjoy again.
A nice clean cottage in a good location for amenetiesshops. Ambleside shopping is a 5 min walk. Alot of steps to carry luggage in and out. Only one car parking space. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would book again.
My friend & I had a lovely week at Bield How although we didn't return with sunburn, we went out every day. Previously my husband & family have visited many times but unfortunately this time we found lack of cleaning equipment, no spare toilet rolls. As we had travelled up by train it was difficult to bring these items. Also the TV in the twin room wasn't working
Lovely property and good location but Not cleaned properly. Chipped crockery. No cleaning products for us to maintain the place. Only a few pieces of loo paper left. Gas fire was disconnected.
Our 4th visit and as good as ever. Well positioned and beautifully presented and equipped. We had a mishap in that a fuse went in the socket to the washing machine but Lakelovers are super efficient and had it fixed within a couple of hours. First rate.
Great location snd comfortable property
We had a great time at Bield How in Ambleside and will definitely visit again. It was great to be in the center of town and have off street parking, ample space for our large 4x4. The views from the front of the bungalow are great. We spent many an afternoon having a brew on the patio before tea. The facilities inside are great. We were a party of 3 adults and had plenty of room. The only point i'd like to raise, it's not a big deal, was that the oven trays could do with being replaced.
We had a lovely holiday , off street parking perfect as we did not use our car all week, aga great for cooking , only thing missing is the personal touches from a private owner , that said would recommend to friends and family and would certainly use for future visits to that area of the Lake District.

This was our sixth stay at Bield How. It is a great base location with off road parking, easy access to plenty of walks and all that Ambleside has to offer. Sadly the Aga was not working this time, due to it needing some maintenance. Additionally, we did find that some of the crockery and cutlery was not clean and everything had to be washed before use. We do however hope to return again in the future.
A really comfortable stay enjoyed at BH . The accommodation lives upto it's written blurb . The owner is very generous if you need to have the heating on at extra times also the emersion heater if required . We were very pleasently surprised at the comfort that is there and also the room sizes . This was our first stay there but have planned to return ,health permmited , next year . Thank you to the owners your honest description deserves success .
Deborah
Our second visit to an excellent location and spacious holiday home. We used it as a base for daily walking trips, leaving the car in the parking space provided, and had everything we needed for cooking, relaxing and recovering from our adventures. The local bus station is so useful, and being within walking distance of the pier too. Our only criticism was the bathroom cleanliness same as last year. We had to clean the drains to get the shower to drain, which given there was no cleaning equipment in the property was pretty unpleasant.
We thoroughly enjoyed Beild How. The accommodation was perfect for us. Ideal location and with everything we could have wanted. We could not find anything about it worthy of criticism and would rate this place very highly.

Your General Feedback Would you like to provide feedback about the holiday property? This will be shared with the property owner. Great stay and lovely property, some advice meant to help... The 'codes' for Netflix and Sky were not available and a call to request them from H of the Lakes was never returned. Several taps need were dripping slightly. Sticky wardrobe doors in main Bedroom Old tech tungsten bulbs in bedside lights very hot dangerous? Toaster not operating correctly, worn out? Some grease spots left by cleaners and the old kettle was badly furred up, but replaced on request after 24 hours. But, aside from these points a lovely home with great appointments and 99 spotless.
Generally happy with the property. Cons Bathroom sanitary ware could be cleaner and no cleaning products provided to improve. Kitchen quite outdated and tired but not a major issue Bed quilts too warm for summer weather TV remote did not work, even after changing the batteries Pros Great location and access to Ambleside King bed a big plus for us and comfortable Good wardrobes, with plenty of hangars Good showers Pots, pans and glassware all immaculate
The location was excellent on the edge of Ambleside village. Access to pubs, restaurants and walks meant we didnt have to use the car too much. The cottage had good facilities and was very comfortable.
Property felt like a home from home which was to a high standard. My only negative and this is tiny the inner back door was sometimes awkward to gain entry and you had to jiggle the key in the lock but on the whole a very enjoyable week with everything within walking distance and bus stops if you need them very handy.
The house has a nice sized lounge, and a large kitchen dining room, which we spent most of our time in because of the AGA cooker keeping it lovely and warm, very nice. I'm a recently retired gas engineer, so having a central heating system that wasn't reduced or limited via room stat in any way was very welcome. The AGA cooker heats the water very well, just the one comment though as the temperature gets quite high, maybe a little note stuck to the wall?
Joanne
This was our 4th or 5th stay at Bield How, so it felt like coming home. The property is well equipped, perfectly located, with off road parking, great views and we found it clean and comfortable. We hope to return again in the future.
Donald
Bield How is looking a little bit tired. The kitchen needs updating, the double mattress needs replacing and the sofas in the living room have seen better days. The Aga is great, we didn't need to put the central heating on because it was warm with the heat from that. The bathrooms are fine with a nice big shower cubicle in one and a big bath in the other. A few cobwebs on the ceilings but don't think this is up to the customer to clean the ceilings.
Bield How is a lovely property, but the comfort of our stay was severely marred by the Aga. It was a mild week in September and when we asked for the Aga to be switched off, we were told the owners would not allow it. The property was therefore stiflingly hot, even with windows wide open. Not great for the environment either, to be wasting all that energy. Also, calling Heart of the Lakes and getting through to someone at Sykes in Chester lacks the personal service and local knowledge that we used to experience in the past. We wouldnt book this property again during the months when the Aga is on.
Gerald
We've stayed twice before but I would no longer recommend the property. The owner insisting that the Aga oven stays on at optimum level this issue isn't mentioned in the property description is absolutely ridiculous. Arriving on a warm day, the oven was belting out so much heat that it must have been over 30 deg C in the kitchen. The only way to manage it was to open every window in the property and use the large fan continuously in the lounge. I note that the visitors book has been removed from the property as mentioned by previous holidaymakers but the numerous requests in the property mentioning not to try and adjust the Aga shows that others have experienced the same. Goodness knows how the cleaners manage. It's very sad as the owners have clearly put a lot of effort into making it a nice property but their love of an economic fuel bill overrides their concern for guests
Cleaning not so good oven pans, carpet and fridge. Tv too small and no cinema on sky. Sofa is not comfy Other than that it was absolutely fine.
Had a great week. Please note following regards to property that would help to improve guests stay in future. Lights out in dbl bedroom. Carpet in dbl bedroom not hoovered. Fans in bathrooms not work. No oven glove. No visitors book. handles lose in kitchen. Door to main bathroom sticks. Net curtains falling off window a lot. no hairdryer.
Beautiful views from this property.
