Spring Cottage Reviews

Loved our stay here , it was clean and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable but low not a problem for us but may affect some. The walk to the house from town is quite steep but there are different routes to explore with make the walk easier. Town was only about a 1015 minute walk. We heard no noise from the neighbours. The only downside was no tea or coffee was supplied , not expecting a big jar just some little sachets and maybe longlife milk things you can get in cafes would of been nice just to be able to have a drink when you have arrived especially after a long journey, would of been received gratefully. Overall I would recommend the place and hope to stay again in the future.
Weve been staying in The Lake District for over 20 years & I must say that this is one of the best cottages weve stayed in. Beautifully furnished & maintained, well equipped & extremely comfortable. We will be back! Home from home

Another lovely comfortable stay at Spring Cottage and already booked for next year. Two caveats once again the boiler had low pressure, so no hot water, and I had to call someone out. Reading other reviews, this seems to be a common problem. Couldn't the cleaner check the boiler pressure when attending and repressurise or call someone out to repressurise if needed before the next guest arrives? The microwave display was not working, so it was impossible to use the microwave. Other than this, everything was good.
We love everything about Spring Cottage. We've stayed 3 times now and hope to stay again.
We've stayed here before. Clean and tidy and well appointed with everything we needed for our week long stay. Is ideally placed for a trip to the centre of Ambleside without the need to drive although anybody with mobility issues would struggle up Peggy Hill. Nice and quiet in The Falls except the sound of the Ghyll which you cant control.
Sophie
Well presented and clean cottage, wider parking spot than adjacent properties which was a bonus for us. Has everything as described, would definitely consider staying there again
Just got back from a fabulous stay at Spring Cottage, the photos were very accurate as it was beautiful. Location is superb only a short walk into Ambleside although there are a few steep hills in places. Very relaxing next to the waterfall which is close to the cottage which didn't bother us at all. When we arrived on the Saturday night there was no heating or hot water, rang Lakelovers and someone came out within half an hour and sorted it which was excellent. Would definitely stay again.

The cottage was, as usual, very comfortable, and in an area close enough to the village to be convenient, but far enough away to be quiet. I like the restful sound of the ghyll, but this time the weather was too cold to leave the window open overnight. There are several good walks from the door, and good local bus services, so a car isn't always necessary, but it's great to have a sufficiently large garage to take the car easily. One quibble was that the shower needs some attention it had constant slow drips from several places and, when in use, water gushed from round the temperature control. A problem with the fridge door handle was fixed promptly and effectively. Spring Cottage also seemed to be home to an array of wildlife each morning I went round and removed several millipedes and woodlice, who obviously found it as welcoming as I did!
We like Spring Cottage a lot. We've stayed twice before and hope to stay again. On this occasion the experience was initially seriously spoiled by the place being cold and the boiler not working. Lakelovers number was useless as we arrived after the phone line closed for the day. Very unhelpful on a Saturday. The helpline was equally useless. We left a message and got no response. The guidance advice was to call the owner but heshe had not left a number that we could find. Eventually we found the boiler manual and realised that maybe we had to repressurise the central heating system. Under the boiler we found a mess of pipes and taps. Once we'd identified the correct taps it was a quick process to repressurise the system and the boiler promptly started. We think the owner should leave much better guidance on this. Not having a working boiler so no heat and no hot water and having no access to outside help and no easy way to identify the problem and fix it is a traumatic way to start a holiday.
The position and layout of this cottage is superb! Lovely open plan lounge, diner and kitchen and having an extra toilet upstairs was great! The place was spotless and easily accommodated 4 adults stacks of storage space in bedrooms and the kitchen. A few small niggles there isnt 2 car parking spaces, we had to park one car across the other which could have made it difficult if all the properties had been rented out kitchen equipment needs updating very blunt knives, small pans and only just enough cutlery and plates, so lots of washing up was done. Despite the weather, we did have a super week! Thank you.

A fantastic stay in Spring cottage and the accommodation was perfect for us and our son. He loved playing the games and exploring the garden area. The furniture was comfortable however, if you are 6 foot plus, the double bed will not quite cater for a comfortable sleep with the tail board. We will definitely be rebooking again to stay in this perfect location.
Andrea
We had a wonderful stay at Spring Cottage and would highly recommend it to other guests. The property is in a beautiful location and a short walk into town, although the hills were a little steep in places and would be a problem for those with limited mobility. The cottage was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay, although no spare toilet rolls! The waterfall is quite loud from the bedrooms but it didn't keep us awake, and was quite soothing. We would definitely stay here again!
Michael
Nice property but a bit far out of town for us,up a steep bank. Cleaning team left only 1 toilet roll ,no kitchen roll.but plenty of cobwebs, owner be aware.apart from that it's a nice property overlooking a waterfall
We were really impressed by the cottage which has been decorated and furnishedaccessorised really tastefully. We were initially concerned that the noise from the waterfall would affect our sleep but it soon becomes nothing more than background noise. The only negative is that the shower screen was not big enough which resulted in puddles of water on the bathroom floor each time it was used. And we could not get the WiFi password to work.. but we were able to connect to our own BT Broadband via the hub. Well with a walk down and up the other side of the beck to a lovely waterfall. Plenty of nice places to eat in Ambleside and of course the beauty of the Lakes on your doorstep. One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in.
Overall the property is lovely and it's high on our shortlist to book again. A few quibbles The lights in the mirrors don't work, or we just couldn't work out how to switch them on. Those modern electric hobs are a nightmare to operate without instructions. Totally unintuitive and frustrating. Please provide the manual. Your wifi code in the handbook is out of date but we used the one on the router. The solid oak furniture is great but there is room for a 5 foot bed king. We find a 4 foot 6 inch bed queen a bit cramped. Downstairs was nice and cool but upstairs got very hot in the week we were there. A couple of electric fans would be appreciated.
Our 6th stay in 7 years and still a lovely cottage in a wonderful location. Long may it stay on your books as it feels like our own holiday home. Good to see the hairdryer flex has been replaced and the grill rack sorted out from last year. However, we were disappointed to note that this year the light tubes in both bathroom mirrors need to be replaced. The one in the main bathroom is potential fire risk as if accidentally turned on it gets really hot but you cannot see that it is on unless it is dark. Also, still think the cottage needs a bigger teapot capable of catering for four guests and we noted there are now only three bowls rather than four.
Madeleine
Outside seating area very restful with tranquil views. Furnishings and dcor excellent. Enjoyed sitting in bay window with grandson. No room for one but. a dishwasher would have made it perfect. Would definitely stay again. Stayed in 3 properties on the Falls and Spring Cottage is definitely the best. So light and airy in the lounge.
Siobhan
Fantastic property and location. We loved it.
We have stayed in the property on several occasions in the past. Very well presented, comfortable and had all the facilities we needed. Very convenient for walking into town and surrounding area. The only complaint was the mattress in the double room which has a large 'pot hole' in it and really does need to be replaced hence the low grade on comfort.
Great apartment spacious living area and in a lovely location, only a few minutes walk from town yet had a real peaceful country feel to it. We loved falling asleep listening to the sounds of the waterfall nearby! Facilities were excellent and the apartment is so comfortable. We will definitely recommend and hope to be back!
This is the first property we have stayed in that weve been genuinely really happy with. The photos on the website match the accommodation. We got the lucky week with the weatherbright sunshine and 30 degreesand the upside layout of the house worked perfectly making the bedrooms cooler at nighttime. Having the windows open and listening to the water was just magic. Its in a super location, town centre only a few minutes walk away. Great longer walks on the doorstep beating the sun up around the Fairfield horseshoe was a fantastic experience!. There is plenty of private parkingeasy room for two cars. Very close to being a perfect 10 holiday.
Yvonne
The cottage was lovely however the double bed was far too small and not at all comfortable consequently our quality of sleep was very poor.
Lovely layout upstairs but bedrooms below left us with issue as you couldn't sleep if someone was up and moving around up stairs. Outside space needs looking at as it has had no attention ,chairs need a good scrub, grass was knee high so couldn't even sit on that instead. Also think that the noise from the falls should be mentioned as i found it very loud, also bedrooms and bathroom seemed to have a lot of insects around which seemed odd as we didn't have windows open . On a plus note bedrooms lovely and cool, sofas very comfortable and soft furnishings lovely.
Howard
Lovely house to stay in. The only problem is that the beds are not long enough. If you are 6ft it makes for a difficult sleep. In the future, I think we would look to make sure the beds are larger.
We loved our stay at spring cottage it was very comfy and a perfect location ... We loved our stay at spring cottage it was very comfy and a perfect location Ambleside is a wonderful place to stay with plenty of places to eat The house was perfect with everything we needed and some great walks close by
Nice, comfortable place, good location, pleasant stay. We were a bit surprised to find the kitchen bin full of rubbish when we arrived, though otherwise the place was generally clean. Some kitchen items could have done with a bit of an update e.g. blunt knives and veg peeler made food prep a bit frustrating, and limited number of some items small things but combined with lack of spare loo rolls, lack of dishwasher, etc, generally led to a feeling of the property being slightly substandard, considering what wed paid for the week! Also worth noting that the stairs to the front door could be a bit precariousslippery when wet!
Purely in the spirit of being helpful and not complaining one of the single duvets needs to be replaced as it is badly stained, which was quite offputting! There was no toilet roll in the upstairs bathroom and only one downstairs spares would have been appreciated. The fridge door possibly needs adjusting as you have to be careful to make sure it is fully closed and doesn't start defrosting. It would be good to have some general instructions re the central heating, bin collection day, etc. Overall, the property is absolutely fabulous and we really enjoyed our stay, We hope to book again next year.
The fridge door wold not stay closed. The freezer was filthy and needed to be defrosted. There was mould around the bath There were cobwebs within easy reach of anyone cleaning the accommodation. The accommodation is ready for decoration if it is to be regarded as suitable for listing as higher standard. There was no hand soap or dish washing soap. Dishwasher tablets were left in a 'welcome' pack but there was no dishwasher. The batteries in the TV remote need to be changed. There was insufficient cutlery. The external stair needed to be cleaned.
Andrew
The apartment was very nice but could do with some attention in the bathroom mould . Owners need to look at their cleaning regime or the cleaners they have employed areas in the apartment clearly being missed especially with COVID .The outside area could not be used as it had no attention in several months ,sunny week so it was a disappointment unable to use . In all we would recommend this unit but advise that you bring cleaning solutions .
Perfect locationvery quiet and ideal for the town centre. Lovely upside down apartment with bedrooms on lower floor and living areas upstairs. Nice little patio area to sit in the sun and enjoy a drink with a field and sheep to look at. Well stocked and nicely appointed. Really suited us. We love the Falls development having stayed next door too. Highly recommended.
Laurence
Accomodation was a little scruffy not sure about standard of cleaning here and some things were broken eg bin under the sink, kettle top, window latch in kitchen etc. . I also expected a few more bits to be available such as shower gel, salt, so this is why I considered it 3 star only.
Denise
The cottage was lovely and in a good position overlooking the waterfalls. The furniture and beds were good quality and the lounge was very comfortable. I must make a point about the bathroom, the seal around the bath was covered in mould and desperately needs replacing. Also, upon stripping the bed we were asked to do this the quilt had numerous stains on it.
Spring Cottage is a really lovely escape with fantastic views of the falls. The window looking out onto the waterfall was a particularly nice feature of the property. The only downside, which is not a criticism of Sykes, was that someone had let their dog foul right at the bottom of the steps leading to the front door and we have a baby and toddler so that wasnt pleasant. Also, the field garden at the back was great and we would have made more use of it but again we saw people walking their dogs so we were a bit wary of the kids standing on something.
