For Families
Lakeside Cottage is not suitable for children as it only accepts infants and babes in arms. A cot and highchair are available on request for babies. The property sleeps just two guests in one king-size bedroom. The lakeside jetty and water access would require constant supervision for young children. Families with older children should consider alternative properties with more bedrooms and child-friendly facilities.
For Couples
This property is perfect for couples wanting a romantic lakeside retreat. The king-size bedroom features quality bedding and an en-suite bathroom. Walk to your private jetty for sunset watching or morning swims. The patio with chiminea creates cosy evenings. Welcome packs include wine and local treats. The peaceful location within five acres of grounds offers privacy while remaining close to Lake District attractions and walks.
Pet Friendly
Lakeside Cottage does not accept pets. The property operates a strict no-pets policy to maintain cleanliness standards for all guests, particularly those with allergies. The five acres of grounds and lakeside access would be appealing for dogs, but the owners have chosen to keep the cottage pet-free. Guests travelling with pets should look for alternative properties in the Lakelovers collection that welcome animals.

Lakeside Cottage Reviews

Very nice cottage in a lovely location with access to Lake Windermere. Ideal location for visiting all the attractions the Lakes have to offer

Lovely couple of owners very helpful and a beautiful place. Perfect for short romantic breaks. Can't recommend enough and we will be heading back next year. 5 stars.
Beautiful accommodation and grounds really enjoyed are stay will definitely be coming back the icing on the cake was walking down to our own private seating area at the lake watching the sun go down.

Lovely stay. Photos slightly misleading re proximity to lake and being slightly overlooked by owner luckily owners not around during our stay. Minor attention to detail I.e stairs not dusted, old leak from bathroom running down kitchen ceiling & into cupboard looked unsightly. Knobs on kitchen cupboards loose.
Amazing property hosts. Beautiful clean cottage in an amazing place. Views by the lake, to die for! Deers, ducks and rabbits all in the gardens. Amazing stress free week. Thank you. Ps. The weather was wonderful......
Deborah
We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage and I think some reviews about the cleanliness are unfair. The cottage was kitted with laundry pods and air drier, washing up liquid and other cleaning products, allowing us to tidy and clean as we went. The kitchen was lovely, we liked having the option of cooking for ourselves and there were more than enough plates, glasses, cutlery etc. The sofa and bed were comfortable and the place was very cosy which was lovely because we stayed during a very cold week in February! The property is close to local villages and towns. The driveway could use some lights at the entrance in my opinion. When we arrived a bottle of wine was in the fridge neither of us drink but it was a nice gesture, some local teas and coffees were laid out and they were of high quality, and some biscuits and breakfast items were available in a welcome basket. Some guidance on the property was printed and leaflets for local attractions was available. The WiFi wasn't massively reliable and was slow for watching tv in the evenings. We luckily had the option of downloading shows and watching them offline but worth being aware of this. The property was mostly clean, we noticed a couple of mug rings on surfaces in different locations, and some cereal on the floor in the bedroom which had obviously been dropped by previous guests. Overall the place was clean, just more attention to detail seems needed. The majority of the cottage was very clean and we didn't feel upset by the level of cleanliness and we didn't feel it was anything to bother the hosts about. Although I did notice stains on the bedsheets which looked spilled coffee marks, and if it was me, I'd replace them. However, the cottage was beautifully decorated and we found the shower had good pressure which was very soothing after a cold day of hiking! We didn't use the bath but it is nice that the option is there. A towel and hand towel are provided for each person, they were decent quality. Bring your own shower gels and shampoos. Extra bedding was in a cupboard and a good quality hairdryer was in a drawer. I did notice the surface around the sink is lifting, so may be worth looking at that to prevent any water damage. The views were beautiful from the angled window upstairs and the garden had frequent visits from deer which we watched over breakfast from the frenchpatio doors! I would recommend this property as a comfortable holiday let for able bodied people. I would also stay again. It was a beautiful property to stay in and we very much enjoyed it. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Helpful hosts with emailmessages before our upcoming trip. Beautiful cottage in a brilliant location close to Windermere and Ambleside. Nice addition of a little snack box with cereal and biscuits. Would definitely return and recommend to friends and family
Stephen
Excellent holiday home with access to a private jetty on Windermere Lake. Property clean and well equipped for a perfect holiday stay. A previous September feedback by a holiday maker appears unfair. We were happy with the cleanliness.
Fantastic holiday cottage. Spotlessly clean on arrival and equipped with all the essentials. Nice welcome pack including a bottle of wine and milk in the fridge. The owners who we had the pleasure to meet are lovely. The lake side area is a brilliant added bonus. Bus stop a short walk from the cottage and the service is excellent. We didnt use our car all week. We were blessed with good weather which made for a brilliant holiday and we hope to return in the future.
Gillian
First the positives the cottage is in a good location and has great access to good walks, bus routes and surrounding areas but the winner for this cottage is the lakeside area which was wonderful even when the weather was not. The downsides the cleanliness should have been better, the upstairs not vacuumed, crumbs on the kitchen floor, sticky residue in the kitchen cupboards and grime around the taps. The bathroom is 'shabby' and seriously lets the property down and the toilet seat was dirty and ill fitting we should have known this was not good in hindsight as there were no pictures of the bathroom on the site. When we stripped the bed linen there were stains on the pillow protectors and the pillows were flat and old. We have booked with Sykes Cottages on many occasions and have been generally pleased with the star ratings and description but feel this property needs to be reassessed as it is not a luxury 5 star cottage. The photographs are misleading and the facilities of CD's, DVD, games were not there and the furnishings may be Laura Ashley but they were well past their best. There was no mention of the road noise which is clearly heard, particularly in the bedroom and the Lakeside Cottage was a good stretch away from the lake, lakeside we believed to be 'lake side'. We returned from holiday 2 days early and sent a message to the owners which they have not had the courtesy to reply to so lets hope they take the extra 2 days of no one being in the cottage to do a deep clean so the next guests aren't disappointed. The owners have said in a previous review that they should have been told of any issues at the time but they fail to take on board that guests should not have to confront owners and have upset on their holiday it is up to the owners to ensure all is well with the property in the first place.
Kenneth
Lovely cottage in an ideal and quiet location next to lake windermere and convenient location for exploring by bus or car. In fact, we used the excellent bus routes for our exploring. We stayed here for our honeymoon after getting married at Gretna Green!!
Stephen
The location was perfect for us with easy access to walks, buses and boats if required. The cottage was very clean and well stocked and the hosts were very helpful and friendly.
Maurice
The cottage was clean and well equipped.
We had a lovely stay in the lakes which we know well having come to the area for the last 30 years. As for the property, there are some fantastic elements and a few let downs. The Good brilliant location, very convenient for Windermere and Ambleside. bedroom storage is great with lots of space private jetty and seating area by the lakeside is a real wow factor! reached by a 5 minute walk. outside space by the cottage with bbq, is very good cottage is homely and cosy well stocked with cooking utensils and everything you might need The not so good bathroom has mould in places and perished sealant, making it look tired and needing a deep clean. the pin location of the cottage on the map is misleading, as it is literally 20ft from the main road and traffic noise is inescapable. The pin location seems to be more where the owners residence is, which is further away from the road. If youre used to traffic noise this probably wont be an issue for you. the overview description of the property saying situated on the shores of the famous Lake Windermere is a bit of a stretch as the cottage isnt on the shore but is a 5 minute walk, be it a very pleasant walk. We met with the owners, who are very pleasant, and passed on our comments about the bathroom which they indicated would be remedied. Overall I would recommend the cottage as it does have alot going for it. Steve and Tina

This property sadly lacks pride, maintenance and even basic cleanliness. Theres no doubt its a great location, and gardens looked immaculate. Unfortunately, my first experience while hanging my coat on the back of a dining chair, were crumbs on the seat. I was prepared to move on. Unfortunately, the kitchen floor was also dirty with many visible crumbs ans if not even hoovered, and cupboard interiors also looked unhygienic, as did the fridge. The freezer compartment needed defrosting. Relying on previous customers to wash up means some dishes also werent clean. The sofas looked like theyd been there since 1999, were uncomfy and grubby, as were the bed cushions and throw. The bed itself was exceptionally comfy and big, let down by tragic pillows. The bedroom wardrobe and drawer space were extensive, although broken hanger bits in the wardrobe base were unnecessary. The ancient CD player was covered in dust, as were socket tops, and bathroom towel railings. The hairdryer was wonderfully powerful. My husband didnt shower in four days as he didnt want to spend any longer in the en suite. The sink looks relatively recently replaced, but the finishing is poor, with already lifting surface. The extensive mould throughout the bathroom is inexcusable, possibly exacerbated by lack of working extractor. The grouting is haphazard and looks dirty, as did inside the cubby behind the bath, and the tissue holder, which didnt have any tissues in it. I did have a bath and the hot water was plentiful and appreciated after walking. We were able to prepare all our meals, although couldnt find a chopping board. And not even a drop of milk on arrival for a brew after a long journey is pitiful. We rationed toilet roll use on the last morning as we were going to run out. We appreciate the patience due to our misread of the check out time, although 9am is the earliest weve known, certainly given all the chores we had to do before leaving. The sanitiser either was empty, or didnt work, like the kitchen clock. The website photos, adorned with flowers etc arent representative of this propertys presentation on arrival. And we wouldnt have cooked on that barbecue even if weather permitted. We enjoyed our stay, only because the Lakes are so beautiful, but sadly feel very ripped off. The reviews and guest book comments dont mirror our findings, so we appear to be unique in our views. But based on this experience, we shant use this website again, and have been recommended Lakelovers instead. This property absolutely can and should be a minimum 4, and it has plentiful bookings, so best of luck to the owners and all who stay. We have photos of the above, excluding the en suite although anyone could see the mould and shoddy workmanship for themselves. Thank you again for helping with the key incident and for patience on our check out. We hope the tidying we did including hoovering downstairs compensated.
Back again for our first stay of 2024. Not the best week for weather, however we had a lovely week and got out and about walking and cycling despite the rain! Looking forward to returning to this special place soon.
Absolutely wonderful week Perfect location with easy access to drive around ... Absolutely wonderful week Perfect location with easy access to drive around Lake District Cost accommodation Home away from home
Thank you for a wonderful week. It was fantastic to get away from it all and be situated here in a perfect location for easy access to the National Park for hikes and incredible scenery. I look forward to staying again one day. This was the perfect place for some head space. Thank you so much!
Enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was like home from home. Lovely place and surroundings. Thank you for making it a pleasant stay.
We had such a wonderful stay at Lakeside Cottage. Such a beautiful place, absolutely delightful. Cottage had everything we need for a stay. This place feels like a home. Looking for a stay I will definitely recommend. Wonderful scenic beauty all around. Looking forward to visit soon.

Enjoyed my stay at the cotttage and definitely recommend this place.

Although the weather was against us snow bomb' followed by torrential rain Lakeside Cottage was the ideal retreat. Always warm and cosy with everything you need for a relaxing break. The views are amazing and we'll definitely return when the weather allows us to make the most of the lake access. A special mention for our our hosts who couldn't have been more helpful or friendly.
After being delayed by the thick snow, we loved our stay and the snow made the mountains look beautiful. We used the buses to travel around for the first two days brilliant service & handy for all the main towns. Comfy bed, good shower, cosy living area everything we look for when on holiday. Thank you for the welcome pack really nice touch!
Alyson
What a great place to stay. We were really pleased with everything and the cottage was so lovely. It was a safe place to park the car, which is something we always have to consider. The facilities were amazing. We will definitely be back. Alyson & Robert Edgson
Everything you need for your stay, clean and with the lake on your doorstep to relax or take a dip. Definitely would recommend this property
Had a great holiday although the weather wasn't the best. The property was lovely just as described. The traffic on the main road wasn't noticeable in the daytime and not to intrusive at night. We have booked again which proves how much we enjoyed the holiday. Thanks again John and Nicole.
We had a great break at lakeside again, as the weather was not at its best we had ample opportunity to find out if the cottage was as comfortable as we remembered, it was! , Nicole and John are great hosts being on hand but definitely not intrusive.
Lovely property which had everything we needed. We were so lucky having the hottest week of the year that we made the most of the access to the lake, which was only about 250 metres down the drive. Would definitely recommend and will book again
A lovely week fantastic hosts, well equipped, clean, spacious comfortable holiday home, private access to the water is a fantastic special feature. Would definitely recommend!
A lovely comfortable Cottage with access to a private jetty. An ideal base for exploring the Lake District or just relaxing by the water's edge or for Kayaking or boating. Look forward to returning again soon.
Charlotte
Had a lovely time at this cottage, very well equipped and looked after. I was wary in regard to reading the reviews about traffic noise, but this did not bother us after a time. Hostess was very friendly and accommodating. However, the bed was initially quite comfy, but after a few nights made you quite sore. Pillows could be softer too. There were some minor issues, cobwebs in areas and the fridge had a few spills not cleaned, the freezer could do with a defrost too, but understand this is not always possible whilst you have lets back to back. Having said all that this did not spoil our stay which was pleasant, made even better by the setting where the cottage is and the access to the private jetty. Would recommend.
Outstanding location and on good bus routes if you dont want to drive everywhere and worry about parking. But not the high standard of other cottages we have stayed in. There were crumbs on the kitchen floor, in the food cupboard together with a half eaten packet of crisps. There was also food debris on the sofa which we had to brush off. Not good!
We had a lovely week in the lake district our accommodation was great, clean comfortable and close to amenities, just a short walk to Windermere lake ,and the weather was good .
Anthony
For a lovely setting Lakeside Cottage has it all , very well equipt , cozy and an added bonus of use of a private jetty. Will bppk again in the future.
Gillian
Excellent property, very clean lovely location and friendly hosts.
Stewart
Accommodation was lovely, warm and welcoming. Fabulous location and wonderful views. Owner affable and also made us feel very welcome thank you! Would need to check outdoor lights as one of ours wasnt working and my wife has limited vision. This caused difficulties in the dark at this time of year. Otherwise very happy which is why I rated it 5 stars.
The host were very friendly and hospital. We couldn't fault the cottage or the location. Our stay was very enjoyable
Sophie
Fabulous cottage, fabulous location. All instructions are fantastic, welcome pack and information and excellent. Really cosy, warm, clean and although we didnt have the weather the jetty and lakeside space is so lovely. Parking fab, bed comfy, great water pressure and well stocked kitchen. Thank you!!
