Walker's Retreat Reviews

Joseph
We loved our stay at walkers retreat. The property was perfect ideal location, good size and well kitted out with a lovely terrace to sit out on too.
Our 3rd stay at Walkers Retreat. Always in December Xmas week as well! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in such a lovely, wellappointed, clean, cosy, warm, comfortable location. Feels very homefromhome when we walked in initially and every day having been out an about.Everything is always so lovely here and we always enjoy visiting. A special thank you to the owners who were extremely accomodating to a request we made midstay enabling us to extend our trip. Very much appreciated. Will definately return and will strongly recommend Walkers Retreat as a great place to stay
A nice cosy apartment with a lovely view over Ambleside to Todd Crag. All amenities were available, in good working order, and clean. We found this to be a convenient base. The credit at Rattle Ghyll is a nice touch. On the negative side, parking is a problem for an SUV.
We liked the accommodation very much. Good kitchen, two bedrooms, a good bathroom. Nice patio with a lovely view. Ambleside is busy in summer and you hear the cars from the patio. We found the sofa not very comfortable, it gives you backpain and its slippery material. Apart from that we are very happy with our stay. Thank you very much! We travelled with public transport and that was great. Frequent bus service to lots of places. It makes life easier in the busy Lake District.
Great location with stunning views and a patio area. Just right. It sleeps three but it's a tight squeeze trying to eat at the table and even sit comfortably on the only sofa. It would be ideal for two people. Parking could be a problem if the other flats have people staying with big cars, which they all seemed to have. Would definitely return.
A very nice and complete appartment right in the centre of Ambleside, with a superb view. The only remark is that the bakingpans need replacing.
Louise
Loved the property! We were worried when we saw the parking situation as we have a larger vehicle luckily nobody staying in flat 2. The views from the patio were delightful! The property had everything you could possibly need. We would stay again
It's was our second stay at this amazing apartment, we have had a wonderful week, comfortable everything you need ,brilliant location we would definitely recommend booking this property and we will definitely be coming back.

Great location bonus of parking on site great views ideal base plenty of walks from the door park car and forget it for the week plenty of options for eating in Ambleside plus Tesco Coop if you want to cook yourself Walkers Retreat is definitely our Ambleside Retreat
Wonderful views from an extremely well equipped appartment. Best views wed ever had from a breakfast table! Would highly recommend
Lovely, comfortable and convenient place from which to explore the Lake District. Our fifth stay here which says it all! Walking, cycling and swimming before a well earned soak in the bath and a glass of wine overlooking Loughrigg as the sun sets. Glorious!
Perfect accommodation, spotlessly clean and very cosy. View from flat including the beautiful gardens is stunning and everchanging, we loved having breakfast and an evening drink on the balcony ... sometimes wrapped up in a blanket but always wonderful! Great to be able to walk the hills from the door and not move the car all week. Fantastic week, thank you!
Valerie
Lovely holiday break apartment was beautiful and very close to many walks, and lovely town. We will certainly be back again.
We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend to others and would stay here again. Walking books were great help. Position of apartment is great, easy access to town and lovely views. We struggled a bit to get the patio doors to close securely but noticed bolt at bottom of door so used that, maybe mentioning that in the pack would be helpful.
Very comfortable, well equipped accommodation in a perfect location. We loved that there were guide books, a comprehensive information folder and that instructions were also near each appliance it made life much easier. We would definitely recommend Walker's Retreat as a great base to explore The Lake District.
We had a amazing time in this apartment, Right in centre of Ambleside all shops pubs and buses on the doorstep. The views from this property mesmerized is it was amazing. The kitchen was well equipped, the bed was super comfortable. We really loved staying here and definitely will be back next time we stay in Ambleside. We would definitely recommend booking here should you want to stay in Ambleside
We enjoyed another week in this apartment. It is comfortable, clean, central and quiet with a lovely view from the kitchen and the living room. Thank you to the Walkers
Tracey
Fantastic comfortable cottage in a perfect location so close to Ambleside. We unfortunately arrived after dark and found it extremely difficult to locate the property, the directions say to turn right on to Low Gale and then turn immediately left into a courtyard....this is incorrect, it is the second turn into what looks like a private driveway of a large house! This made the start of our stay very stressful as we were driving and walking up and down the road in the dark and rain after a long day and a long journey
A wonderful place to stay. Lovely to be in Ambleside and avoid using the car wherever possible. In spite shops only a 2 minute walk when darkness falls there is not a light to be seen and you could easiy be fooled that you were in the middle of the fells. The views are fantastic and can be savoured from the balcony if it is warm enough or through the patio window if not. The property is well equipped, comfortable and cosy. This was our second week here and we will definitely come again
Andrew
It was a lovely home away from home for us as a couple. Had all the mod cons we required. It was a perfect spot, close enough to the town centre to make trips to the shops, pubs and restaurants in minutes but set back enough from the main road to feel like it was much further away. There was a small amount of road noise to the front but we were able to sit outside on a couple of occasions when the weather allowed without too much disturbance. We've booked to go back early next year as we were very happy with it.
This flat was perfect. Absolutely no complaints. The views from the patio were stunning and it was so close to the centre of Ambleside. We would definitely use this accommodation again.
Lovely clean cottage. Just right for 2. So convenient for town and buses. Lovely view. Would certainly recommend and will book again.
Angela
Walkers Retreat. What a fabulous Apartment. I have stayed in Ambleside on several occasion and this is a lovely spot. The property is so close to the main shops and restaurants. The patio area is secluded and private with great views. The bonus with this property is the bedrooms are to the rear so you get very little noise from the main road, which can get very loud though the night. The apartment had everything we needed, was clean and very comfortable. We will definitely return . Thank you for a lovely stay. PS a knife sharpener would be helpful as some of the kitchen knives needed to be sharpened.
Arrival time is too late . 5pm Departure too early . 9pm Does it really take 8 hours to prepare? It means we lose nearly a full day!
We had another great week in Walkers Retreat. We find it very comfortable, with everything we need and so close to the shops and walks from the door. Thank you.
We really enjoyed our second stay at The Walkers Retreat. The only reason I have given 4 stars, is because the family above us had a small child, who cried a lot through the night, so sleeping was difficult. And the lower rating for comfort is only because the sofa is leather and we both kept sliding about. Other than that we love Walkers retreat.
Beautiful views and close to shops. Comfortable bed but furniture looking a little tired . Lots of books and DVDs. My daughter and I had fun playing Scrabble. Nowhere to put groceries but lovely big fridge freezer. Also nowhere to put clothes in the single bedroom. We will definitely be staying at Walker's retreat again and will recommend it to friends.
We've stayed at 2 other apartments on this block and found this one to be the best by far. High end kitchen appliances, and some very good touches to the decor, really happy with our stay, can't wait to go back.
Excellent cottage re,position condition ,just what we wanted. Great position for shops, eats places buses and walks.would recommend to others.
Richard
Good comfortable and perfectly located apartment. Parking very tight could be more of an issue if a Range Rover or similar had to get past from one of rear spaces .Had a couple of blinking lights in bathroom literally. Television probably due an upgrade.
Another comfortable and relaxing holiday here in Walkers Retreat. Thank you
Comfortable and very well equipped with everything you require. Near to town centre though steps down could be tricky for some. Enjoyed our stay there and would definitely return,
PROS Excellent Location and beautiful views of the local hilltops. location especially good to walk into Ambleside. CONS Parking, it's a long way to reverse in, in the middle of the night do NOT drive in forwards and try to turn around at the end no lighting and you're likely to catch your car on so many corners Maybe I have been spoilt with Airbnb, but No washing powdertablets is so annoying, as is No shower gel etc to have to go back into town and get these basics Why ? CHECKOUT these timings of 5pm checkin and 9am check out are ridiculous! .... especially when you can't leave anything in the dishwasher and all has to be put away. Rooms very small and since 90 of cupboard space is labelled OWNERS ITEMS you have to leave all your stuff on the floor around the bed which is a nightmare as there is only max 2ft of space in the room! try going to the bathroom in the middle of the night and NOT tripping over all your stuff. this could be an excellent little cosy place justifying the higher price tag if only the owners were more customer focussed.
A lovely apartment and perfect for 2. Lighting along the garden steps down to the bottom gate would help. Perfect in all other respects.
Walker's Retreat is a superb apartment fitted out to the highest standard, clean and comfortable. When you find the secret stairway down through the garden into the main street, you realise how brilliantly situated it is for shops, restaurants and buses all literally minutes away. We have stayed in Ambleside many times but this was our first visit to Walker's Retreat and we were really impressed. A word of warning though, the apartment is part of a small complex which sadly has little in the way of soundproofing. The walls and ceilings are paperthin and we could hear everything from the surrounding apartments. It wasn't that our neighbours were particularly rowdy but, because of the thin walls, etc. we could hear every door closing, voices in conversation and T.V. sounds. This was partly remedied by the purchase of earplugs, but couldn't prevent a few sleepless nights during our stay. The noise was a shame because otherwise this apartment would be absolutely perfect.
The shower is feeble.
Elisabeth
We absolutely loved it. Perfect location for all the shops, fantastic restaurants and walks. Flat comfortable and lovely outside terrace. Would have been nice to have had a pint of milk in fridge when arriving late, but one of the best holidays we have had.
Milena
The cottage is beautiful inside and also has an amazing view from the terrace where you can enjoy your morning coffee. Its situated in the town centre, few minutes from shops and restaurants. Great location to explore the rest of the Lakes District from.
